Difficult work colleague

Anonymous

Beloved of All
A work colleague I manage who is going out of their way to undermine me. I am getting so stressed and maxing mistakes now due to anxiety. I work every hour there is. It’s so difficult.

We hear your struggle, and our hearts go out to you in this challenging situation. The workplace can be a battleground when relationships are strained, especially when someone is intentionally undermining your authority and peace. We want to remind you that God sees your hard work, your dedication, and the injustice you are facing. He does not ignore the tears of His children, nor does He turn away from those who seek Him in their distress.

First, let us turn to Scripture for wisdom and comfort. The Bible tells us in Psalm 55:22, "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved." This is a promise that God will uphold you, even when it feels like the ground beneath you is shifting. You are not alone in this, and you do not have to carry this burden by yourself. God is your strength, your shield, and your refuge.

We also find guidance in Romans 12:18, which says, "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men." This does not mean you should allow yourself to be walked over or disrespected, but it does call us to respond with grace and wisdom. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Your response to this colleague should reflect Christ’s love, even if their actions do not. This does not mean you should tolerate their behavior, but it does mean you should seek to handle the situation in a way that honors God.

We must also address the toll this is taking on your health and well-being. Working every hour there is and allowing anxiety to consume you is not God’s design for your life. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." You are not called to burn out in your service to your employer. God desires for you to find rest in Him, to trust Him with your work, and to set boundaries that protect your peace and health. We encourage you to take time to rest, to seek God in prayer, and to remember that your worth is not defined by your productivity or the opinions of others.

Now, let us pray for you in this situation:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is facing this difficult trial at work. Lord, You see the stress, the anxiety, and the exhaustion they are experiencing. You know the intentions of this colleague’s heart, and You are just and righteous in all Your ways. We ask that You would give our brother/sister wisdom and discernment in how to handle this situation. Grant them the strength to respond with grace and the courage to address the issue with authority when necessary.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of strife and division that is at work in this situation. We declare that no weapon formed against Your child shall prosper, and that every tongue that rises against them in judgment will be condemned, according to Isaiah 54:17. Lord, we ask that You would soften the heart of this colleague, that they would see the error of their ways and repent. If they refuse to change, we pray that You would remove them from this place of influence or bring about a resolution that restores peace.

We also pray for our brother/sister’s health and well-being. Lord, ease their anxiety and calm their mind. Help them to find rest in You and to trust that You are their provider and protector. Remind them that their identity is in Christ, not in their job or the opinions of others. Give them the strength to set healthy boundaries and to prioritize their relationship with You above all else.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would use this situation for Your glory. Whether through restoration, redemption, or removal, let Your will be done. We trust in Your goodness and Your faithfulness, and we thank You for hearing our prayer. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to lean on God’s promises during this time. Remember that He is your defender, and He will fight for you. Seek His guidance in how to handle this colleague, whether that means addressing the issue directly, seeking mediation from a supervisor, or trusting God to intervene in ways only He can. You are not powerless in this situation, for the Holy Spirit is your helper and your advocate.

Continue to seek God’s presence daily. Spend time in His Word, for it is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with fellow believers who can pray for you and offer godly counsel. And most importantly, remember that God is working all things together for your good, even when it doesn’t feel like it (Romans 8:28). Hold fast to your faith, and do not let the enemy steal your peace. You are more than a conqueror through Christ who loves you (Romans 8:37).

We're right there with you, feeling the weight of this situation. It's tough when someone we work with seems determined to make our life difficult. But remember, we're not alone in this. God sees you, He knows your heart, and He's right there with you, every step of the way.

You know, sometimes when we're feeling overwhelmed, it's like we're carrying a heavy backpack. But in Psalm 55:22, God tells us, "Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you." That's a promise that He's got us, that He won't let us be moved. So, let's take a deep breath and hand over that heavy backpack to Him, trusting that He's got the strength to carry it.

Now, we're not saying you should just sit back and take whatever this colleague throws at you. No, we need to stand up for ourselves, but always in a way that reflects Jesus. In Romans 12:18, we're told to "live in harmony with one another." That doesn't mean we let people walk all over us, but it does mean we respond with grace and wisdom, not anger or bitterness.

And hey, it's okay to not be okay all the time. It's okay to feel stressed, to make mistakes because of anxiety. But remember, Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." You don't have to work every hour of the day, burning yourself out. God wants you to find rest in Him, to trust Him with your work, and to set boundaries that protect your peace and health.

So, let's pray. Heavenly Father, we come to You on behalf of our friend here. Lord, You see the stress, the anxiety, the exhaustion they're feeling. You know this colleague's heart, and You're just and righteous in all Your ways. We ask that You would give them wisdom and discernment, grant them strength to respond with grace, and courage to address this issue when needed. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Keep your eyes on Jesus, trust in His love for you, and remember, you're not alone in this. We're all in this together, and God's got us.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
