Demonic attacks

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
I have been experiencing certain demonic attacks for years due to time that I spent in the new age (even though I returned back to Christ years ago). These attacks may be persisting due to me struggling with unforgiveness and thus opening myself up to demonic torment because of this. Well, I am experiencing a lot of demonic attacks related to a relationship I ended recently due to my being very unequally yoked to that person and the relationship also generally being outside of God's will. These attacks include unwanted divination thoughts about things this person is doing now (these kinds of unwanted thoughts are often accurate). It is likely that this person was unfaithful to me and not really serious about me during our relationship and now I'm being bombarded with thoughts of them moving on to new people including with people who I thought were my friends. This is all very disturbing. Please pray it would stop. For certain reasons, these thoughts start to become alluring to draw me back toward the new age and I'm trying to resist them. Thank you.

We hear your cry for deliverance and stand with you in the authority of Jesus Christ, who has already defeated every power of darkness. Your past involvement in the new age movement opened doors to spiritual oppression, but the blood of Jesus has the power to close them completely. The enemy seeks to torment you with divination, unforgiveness, and the pain of a relationship that was not aligned with God’s will. We rebuke these attacks in the name of Jesus and declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

Your struggle with unforgiveness is a key stronghold the enemy is exploiting. Scripture commands us to forgive as we have been forgiven (Colossians 3:13), not because the other person deserves it, but because it sets us free. The unfaithfulness and deception you experienced in this relationship were grievous sins, but harboring bitterness will only give the enemy legal ground to harass you. We urge you to release this person to God in prayer, asking Him to bless them with repentance and salvation if they do not know Christ. This act of obedience will break the enemy’s foothold.

The allure of the new age is a counterfeit peace, a deception the enemy uses to draw you away from the true freedom found only in Christ. Resist him by submitting to God (James 4:7), filling your mind with Scripture, and renouncing any past involvement in occult practices. We pray you would take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5) and reject the lies that seek to entangle you.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the Name above every name. We stand on Your Word that declares greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Lord, we ask for complete deliverance for our brother/sister from every demonic attack, every lying spirit, and every tormenting thought. We break the power of divination, unforgiveness, and bitterness in Jesus’ name. We seal this prayer with the blood of Jesus, declaring that no weapon formed against them shall prosper.

Father, we ask You to heal their heart from the pain of betrayal and deception. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Help them to forgive as You have forgiven them, releasing this person and any associated hurts into Your hands. We pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit, that they would be strengthened in their inner man and walk in the freedom Christ died to give them.

Lord, we renounce any lingering ties to new age practices and declare that every door opened to the enemy is now closed by the blood of Jesus. We pray for a hunger and thirst for Your Word, that they would be transformed by the renewing of their mind (Romans 12:2). Surround them with godly community, and lead them to a spouse who loves You and seeks to honor You in marriage, if that is Your will for their life.

We thank You, Father, that You are faithful to complete the work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6). May they walk in victory, clothed in the full armor of God, standing firm against every scheme of the enemy. In Jesus’ powerful name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps to walk in this freedom. Spend time in worship, prayer, and reading the Word daily. Confess any known sins, including unforgiveness, and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas where the enemy may still have access. Consider seeking prayer from mature believers who can stand with you in spiritual warfare. The battle is already won, stand firm in the victory Christ has secured for you.

Thank you for trusting us with this. We can hear how wearying this has been, carrying these intrusive thoughts for years, and now again after ending a relationship that you knew was not right for you. Choosing to step away and to stay with Jesus when the old path feels familiar takes real courage.

What you describe makes sense in light of your history. When you spent time in the new age, you learned to pay attention to impressions and to check whether they were accurate. So now when unwanted thoughts come about your former partner, the urge to track them and see if they are true can feel almost automatic, and even alluring. We have found it helps not to argue with the thought or test its accuracy, but simply to turn away from it. You do not have to figure out what someone else is doing to be safe in Christ.

You mentioned unforgiveness as well. We have walked with many who find that forgiveness has two parts. There is a quiet decision to release the debt and not seek payback, which you can make before God even when feelings are still raw. Then over time, as you bring the hurt honestly to Him, the bitter emotions can soften and be replaced with more peace. It is a process, not a single moment, and it often needs support.

One practical help when the thoughts come might be to have a simple plan ready: pause, pray briefly in Jesus' name for His protection and peace, turn your attention to something present and good, and later talk it through with a steady, mature pastor or counselor who knows your story. If you still have any objects or materials from that earlier season, letting go of them with someone trusted can also be a clean break.

We are praying for you.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus' name. You see the torment and the unwanted thoughts and the pull back toward old ways. Cover them with Your peace, guard their mind, and make Your presence more real than any impression. Give wisdom and strength to keep walking with You, and bring healing where there has been hurt and unforgiveness. Lead them step by step into freedom and rest in Christ. Amen.

Your burden has been laid before the Lord and before His people, and we have taken it up with you in prayer.

There is much wisdom and grace in what you have discerned. To have come out from the new age and to have returned to Christ is itself a great deliverance, for He alone has found a ransom and He alone brings His people forth from the pit. To have ended a relationship which you knew to be unequally yoked and outside of the will of God was not a loss to be mourned as though you had lost a blessing, but an act of obedience to be confirmed. Scripture calls us to such separation not out of harshness but out of mercy, that we might be kept from deeper snares. We do not ask the Lord to bless or to restore what He has called you to forsake, but we ask Him to establish you in the path of holiness and peace to which He has called you.

You speak rightly when you trace part of this torment to unforgiveness. An unforgiving spirit does keep open a door to the tormentor, and Satan is skillful to use it. Yet the deliverance from the power of sin and from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. You cannot by your own resolve shut that door, but you can look to your heavenly Father altogether and alone, who has delivered us and who still delivers. Forgiveness is not a feeling that you must manufacture, but an act of obedience flowing from the free grace which has forgiven you all. As Christ has forgiven you, so you are called to forgive, and in that obedience the enemy loses his foothold.

Concerning these unwanted thoughts which come as divination, as though you were shown what this other person now does, whether with others or with those you counted friends, you are right to call them disturbing and to desire that they would stop. Even when such suggestions seem to prove accurate, they are not to be trusted nor entertained nor followed. There is one temptation which exceeds all others in subtlety, when Satan offers some back door by which to escape from our troubles. He whispers that God will not hear, that His ear is shut, and then he presents his own expedient, a secret knowledge, a hidden sight. To listen is to be led into temptation, and our Lord has taught us to pray, Lead us not into temptation, and then never to go into it of our own accord. To turn again toward the new age for relief would be to go straight to the place of temptation after praying to be kept from it. That way brings no deliverance, only deeper bondage.

Your deliverance must be of the Lord, and it is effectual because He brings His people forth. It came when the Lamb was slain, and the ransom has been found. He does not merely bring His people out, He brings them forth with silver and gold, with enrichment of grace, and with health and strength where there was feebleness. He saves from yourself and from all the attacks of your old sins, saved from the devil, saved from evil company, for God has said, Deliver him from going down to the pit. Let the Christian know that his God is with him, and temptation will have little power.

We have prayed for you, and we continue to pray after this manner:

O Lord our God, who hast delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of Thy dear Son, look upon this Thy child who was once entangled in darkness and is now Thine. Thou hast found a ransom in the blood of Jesus, and we plead that ransom now. Deliver from going down to the pit, and set free from every oppression and assault of the evil one. Grant grace to forgive even as Christ has forgiven, that no root of bitterness may remain to give place to the adversary. Stop and silence these divining thoughts and imaginations, and keep this soul from seeking knowledge by forbidden ways. Lead not into temptation, and grant strength to turn from every alluring thought toward the old darkness, and to stand fast in the light of Christ. Bring forth with healing, with peace of mind, with purity of heart, and with steadfastness to declare the works of the Lord. We ask not for the blessing of what Thou hast called outside Thy will, but for conformity to Thy will, for a holy life, and for rest in Thy free grace alone. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour, Amen.

Take heart to declare the works of the Lord after your affliction. If we had no troubles we would have less to declare. He who has chastened you sorely has not given you over unto death, and He who brought Israel forth will bring you forth also. Keep near to the Word, to prayer, and to the fellowship of the saints, and give no place to curious or secret arts, but wait upon Him who alone delivers.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honesty in sharing this struggle is received with care, and your desire to resist being drawn back toward the new age and to see these tormenting thoughts stop is right and good. Ending a relationship that was unequally yoked and outside of God's will was a faithful step, and God honors a heart that turns away from what He calls us to leave behind.

You rightly see the connection between unforgiveness and ongoing torment. Scripture warns that holding onto anger and refusing to forgive keeps a door open to the enemy, while forgiveness is the way God has given for release. It is not a heavy burden to forgive, but a refreshment. Keeping enmity is the true toil, it wears down the soul. God has made the way short and easy for those who are willing. To forgive the one who grieved you does not require a long journey or great effort, only a willing heart before God, and He then washes away sins and brings deliverance. If you are holding unforgiveness toward this person who may have been unfaithful, or toward friends you feel have betrayed you, bring that to the Lord now. Name it, confess it, and ask Him to help you release them from your debt as Christ has released you. The blessedness God gives is not for those who hold their sins or the sins of others, but for those whose sins are forgiven and covered by His grace through Jesus Christ alone.

These unwanted thoughts that feel like divination, even when they seem accurate, are not to be welcomed or examined. Accuracy does not mean they are from God. Those who practice augury and divination are to be corrected with firm authority, and the Christian is to turn away from such things completely. Do not treat these intrusions as insight to be followed or as proof of a gift. Treat them as an attack to be rejected. When the thought comes about what this person is doing now or who they may be with, do not entertain it, analyze it, or seek to confirm it. Turn immediately to Christ, confess that you renounce all new age practices and all seeking of hidden knowledge apart from Him, and ask Him to cleanse your mind. Deliverance from evil and adoption as sons and daughters comes only through Jesus, who bore the curse and gives us His Spirit. There is no other source of truth or comfort.

It is painful to be bombarded with images of betrayal and loss, and to mourn over both your own past involvement in the new age and the hurt of this relationship. Yet God promises comfort not to those who hide their sorrow, but to those who mourn for their sins before Him. When you mourn in this way, He does not only remove punishment but gives abundant consolation, far greater than the labor of repentance. He can teach you to despise these attacks rather than fear them, and to stand above them because your life is secure in Christ.

Pray with you now for this freedom.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we ask for mercy and deliverance. Forgive all involvement in the new age and every sin connected to this relationship that was outside Your will. Wash this heart clean by the blood of Jesus and fill it with Your Spirit of adoption. Grant the willingness and strength to forgive fully those who have caused hurt, and release from all torment that has come through unforgiveness. We renounce every form of divination and hidden knowledge and ask You to shut that door completely. Silence these unwanted thoughts and take away their allure. Guard this mind with Your peace, renew it with Your Word, and keep these feet from turning back. Give comfort to one who mourns and make this life steadfast in Christ alone, where alone there is salvation and true life. Amen.

Continue to walk in the light by staying in Scripture daily, praying plainly to Jesus, gathering with a faithful church, and refusing to seek out information about this former relationship. When the thoughts come, answer them with truth and with forgiveness, and trust that Christ is able to keep you and to give you rest.

Thank you for sharing so honestly about what you have been carrying. It is painful to be harassed by intrusive thoughts, especially when they feel accurate and pull at your heart, and it is understandable that you want this torment to stop. Your return to Christ and your decision to end a relationship that was unequally yoked and outside of God's will were right steps of obedience, and God honors a heart that wants to walk in His way.

The Scripture makes it clear that even after we have known great spiritual blessing, we do not have immunity from the attacks of the enemy. He often tries to distract and destroy what God is doing. These attacks are not fought with physical means. They are spiritual, and they require spiritual weapons. The enemy is intelligent and strategic, studying how to accuse and deceive, but God has given us armor so we can stand.

One door you have rightly discerned is unforgiveness. Jesus taught that when we refuse to forgive from the heart as we have been forgiven, we open ourselves to torment. Forgiveness does not mean what was done was right, or that trust is restored, or that the relationship should continue. It means releasing the person and the debt into God's hands and choosing to no longer hold it against them. Bringing that unforgiveness to the cross, confessing it, and choosing to forgive as Christ forgave you will help close that opening.

The unwanted thoughts you describe that feel like divination are also part of this battle. Even if a suggestion seems to contain some truth about what another person is doing, its source is not the Holy Spirit if it comes as a harassing, unwanted intrusion that disturbs your peace and draws you back toward practices God forbids. God calls divination an abomination because it seeks knowledge apart from Him and puts us under another influence. Those thoughts may feel alluring because they offer hidden knowledge or a sense of control, but they are a trap to pull you back into the very darkness Christ delivered you from. God's thoughts and ways are far higher than ours, and He knows the end from the beginning. He does not lead us through tormenting whispers, but through His peace and His Word.

God has given you a way to respond when these attacks come.

First, refuse them. You do not have to receive or entertain a thought just because it enters your mind. In Christ you can say no to it. The prince of this world had nothing in Jesus, and because of the finished work of Jesus on the cross and your faith in Him, you can withstand these assaults. You are not fighting in your own strength.

Second, rejoice in what God has provided. Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. You have the power of His Spirit and the spiritual armor He supplies to repel the enemy.

Third, answer with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. When Jesus was tempted, He answered each attack with, It is written. Hide Scripture in your heart so you have it ready. When a tormenting or divining thought comes, speak truth aloud. Speak that you are cleansed through Christ, that you resist the devil and he must flee, that you will take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, that God has not given you a spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound mind. Keep watching and keep your walk clean before the Lord, refusing to return to old practices.

It would be good to specifically renounce before the Lord your past involvement in the new age, asking Him to forgive and cleanse you and to break every tie to those practices, and then to turn decisively away from them. Ask Him to fill what was once occupied by those things with His Spirit and His truth. And as you choose to forgive those who have hurt you, including this person and any friends involved, ask God to abundantly pardon and to give you His heart toward them while you maintain healthy separation from what was not His will.

I am praying for you. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I bring this dear one before You. Thank You for drawing them back to Yourself and for giving them the courage to step out of what was not Your will. Wash them in the blood of Jesus and forgive every sin, including any unforgiveness and any former involvement with darkness. In Jesus' name I ask You to shut every door that has been opened to the enemy and to silence these harassing, divining thoughts. Break their power and make them stop. Fill this mind with Your peace, Your Word, and Your thoughts, which are higher and truer. Teach them to refuse the enemy, to stand strong in the finished work of Christ, and to answer every attack with Your Word. Guard their heart, strengthen them to resist the pull back toward old ways, and lead them forward in purity, wholeness, and joy in You. Let them know deeply that You who are in them are greater than any power that comes against them. Amen.

Continue to stay close to Jesus, in His Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with faithful believers who will support your walk. If these thoughts persist, keep bringing them quickly to the Lord in this same way, refusing, rejoicing in His provision, and responding with Scripture, trusting that as you resist the devil he will flee from you.
