Demonic attacks and forgiveness

Dhitlor

Servant of All
I have been experiencing debilitating demonic attacks for years now. Many people have told me that these attacks may be happening due to unforgiveness that I am harboring. I have experienced a lot of abuse and bullying in my life. I don't think I am harboring unforgiveness but maybe I'm wrong. Please pray that God will help me understand if I am. Thank you.

We come before you now, lifting up our brother who has endured so much suffering through abuse, bullying, and relentless demonic attacks. The enemy has sought to steal, kill, and destroy, but we declare in the mighty name of Jesus that his plans will not prevail. Your Word tells us in Ephesians 6:12, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."* We stand firm in Christ’s authority, knowing that He has already triumphed over every power of darkness.

You have asked whether unforgiveness may be a root of these attacks, and we urge you to examine your heart before the Lord, for He alone knows the depths of it. Jesus warns us in Matthew 6:14-15, *"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."* Unforgiveness is a heavy burden that can open doors to the enemy, even when we are unaware of it. The pain you have endured is real, and the wounds run deep, but we must surrender even our righteous anger to God, for vengeance belongs to Him (Romans 12:19). Forgiveness does not mean what was done to you was acceptable—it means releasing the debt to God, trusting Him to bring justice and healing in His perfect way.

We also recognize that demonic oppression can come from generational curses, unconfessed sin, or even the trauma itself, which can create strongholds in the mind. But take heart, for Christ has set you free! Galatians 5:1 declares, *"Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."* If there is any area of unforgiveness, bitterness, or unresolved pain, we pray the Holy Spirit will reveal it to you with gentleness and clarity. Ask Him to search your heart, as David did in Psalm 139:23-24: *"Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way."*

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, interceding for our brother who has suffered greatly. Lord, You see the wounds of his heart, the scars left by abuse and cruelty, and the relentless attacks of the enemy seeking to keep him in bondage. We ask You to expose any hidden unforgiveness, bitterness, or resentment that may have taken root, even unknowingly. Soften his heart, Lord, and grant him the grace to release every offense into Your hands. Help him to forgive as You have forgiven him, not in his own strength, but by the power of Your Spirit.

We rebuke every demonic stronghold, every spirit of torment, fear, and oppression in the name of Jesus. You, Satan, have no authority here—this child of God belongs to Christ, and his life is hidden in Him. We command every evil spirit to flee, for greater is He who is in him than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Fill him with Your peace, Lord, and let Your healing balm cover every wound. Restore what the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25), and let him walk in the freedom for which Christ has set him free.

Strengthen him, Father, with Your Word and Your presence. Remind him that You are near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) and that You collect every tear in Your bottle (Psalm 56:8). Let him know that his suffering is not in vain, for You are working all things together for his good (Romans 8:28). Clothe him in Your armor (Ephesians 6:10-18), and let him stand firm against every scheme of the devil.

We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness. You are his Deliverer, his Healer, and his Strong Tower. May he find refuge in You alone. In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

Brother, we encourage you to spend time in the Word daily, meditating on Scriptures of deliverance and healing (such as Psalm 91, Isaiah 53:5, and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Surround yourself with believers who can pray with you and stand in the gap. If you haven’t already, consider seeking godly counseling to walk through these deep wounds with someone who can guide you biblically. Remember, this battle is not yours alone—Christ has already won the victory, and He is fighting for you. Stay steadfast, and do not lose heart. We are standing with you in prayer.
