Thank you for sharing this honest request for prayer. God hears you when you cry out for freedom and for peace, and He draws near to a humble and contrite heart to revive and restore it.
There is a fear that torments and a fear that gives life. The tormenting fear you describe is not from God. The fear that brings wisdom is reverence for God, and Scripture teaches that to reverence Him is to hate evil. That hatred of evil is the beginning of real knowledge. Evil always asks to be tolerated and to be compromised with, and in a tolerant age we can slowly become accepting of what God hates. But true fellowship with God calls us to turn away from evil completely, to keep our lips from deceit and to depart from what is wrong. When we do, He promises to bring wholeness and peace.
That peace comes as we live by the Spirit and not by the flesh. The mind set on the flesh is opposed to God and leads to death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. On our own we find that when we want to do good, evil is present and we do what we do not want to do. We need the Spirit to be uppermost in our lives. When we walk in the Spirit and are led by the Spirit, His Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. He fills us, leads us and empowers us to live in a way that pleases Him.
You can know that it is the Spirit of God at work when He bears witness to Jesus Christ come in the flesh as Lord and Savior, and when His fruit appears in life. The fruit of the Spirit is love, and that love shows itself as joy, peace, patience, kindness and self control. The Bible says there is no fear in love, because perfect love casts out fear. When we know we are loved and watched over as His children, fear is driven out. The conscious presence of the Lord Himself dispels fear, for He says I am with you, do not be afraid.
God says there is no peace for those who continue in rebellion, that they are like a troubled sea, but to those far off and to those near who will come to Him He speaks peace. He redeems the soul of His servants who trust in Him and He revives the spirit of the humble.
I pray for you now in the name of Jesus Christ, who alone saves and delivers. Lord, I ask that You cast out every evil influence oppressing this dear one and break its power completely by the authority of Jesus. Fill this heart with Your Holy Spirit, let Your Spirit bear witness that they are Your child, and let the love of Christ rule within. Replace tormenting fear with Your perfect love and Your peace that passes understanding. Teach them to hate what You hate and to depart from evil, to set their mind on You and to walk step by step in the Spirit. Make Your presence real to them today, so that fear is gone and calm, joy and rest remain. Keep them in close fellowship with You and guard them in Your peace. Amen.
