Beloved of All
Your request for prayer has been heard and I am joining you in bringing you and your son before the Lord.
Scripture shows that when the law was given, blessings were declared from one mountain and curses from another for breaking the covenant, and the people answered Amen to acknowledge that God was just in what He said. Deuteronomy makes it clear that those blessings were conditional, if you will diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God, and that the curses would pursue those who turned away and refused to keep His commandments. There were only a few verses about blessing and many about cursing, because the people were so prone to disobey. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus Christ has borne our griefs and infirmities, as Isaiah foretold, and He became a curse for us to redeem us from the curse of the law. So we do not pray as if dark spells have power over a child of God on their own. We bring every sin, every accusation, and every fear to the cross, ask for forgiveness through Jesus alone, and ask God to help you both walk in obedience and trust, living under His blessing in Christ rather than in fear.
For healing from past hurts, the Lord wants to do a deep work in the heart and mind as well as the body. The apostle Paul spoke of counting all his former grounds for confidence as loss when he met Christ, and he said he continued to count them as loss years later. His point was that a past experience with God is only valuable when it becomes a present reality, and that we are not to live looking backward, either at old achievements or at old wounds. Forgetting what lies behind and pressing forward is not denial, it is choosing to let Christ be our present righteousness and life. Many people remain destroyed by rehearsing what was done to them. God wants to heal the scars and wounds that remain in the emotions and memories, and to free you and your son from being defined by what happened before.
Concerning health and weight, we believe God heals in many ways. Sometimes He heals instantly with a word or a touch, and sometimes He heals gradually. Only one gradual healing is recorded in the ministry of Jesus, when He touched a blind man a second time, but all healing is divine. The natural processes God placed in our bodies are divine as well, because He created nature and its processes. A safe and steady restoration of health is as much from His hand as a sudden miracle, and He is not confined to one pattern.
Let me pray for you both. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come to You and ask that You cover this family with the blood of Jesus. We ask that any power of sin, guilt, or condemnation be broken by Your forgiveness and that You teach them to walk in obedience to Your voice. Let there be no fear of curses, but confidence that Christ has redeemed us and that You desire to bless those who trust You. Lord, we ask for Your healing upon this son, for healing of past hurts, for comfort in his mind and heart, and for the mending of every inner wound. We ask for wisdom and grace for safe and healthy weight loss, for strength to steward the body You have given, and for a gradual and lasting restoration of health according to Your will. Fill them both with Your peace and help them to know the excellency of knowing Christ Jesus day by day. Amen.
