Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this request for prayer. It has been lifted up before the Lord with care for you and for your son.
In Scripture the curses you are concerned about were spoken of very clearly. When the people stood in the valley with blessings declared from one mountain and curses from the other, every curse for disobedience was pronounced and the people answered Amen, agreeing that God is right and just in what He says. The long list in Deuteronomy shows how seriously God views turning away from His voice, and how those consequences will pursue a life that shuns Him. There are only a few verses of blessing and many verses of curse, because disobedience was the more common path. But that same Scripture shows the condition, if you hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord. For those who are in Jesus Christ, the curse has been borne by Him. He took upon Himself what we deserved, so you do not need to live in fear that a spoken curse has power over you or your son. What is needed is to rest in Christ, to walk in obedience to Him by faith, and to trust that no curse can overtake those who are covered by His blood. We have prayed that any sense of oppression or fear be ended now, and that you both would know the freedom and protection that belongs to those who are in Christ.
We also prayed for your son in two specific ways you mentioned. First for safe weight loss and health. God shows His care for the body throughout Scripture, even in the laws about what was good to eat and what was to be avoided, and in the principles of cleanliness and care. Much of that was for health and strength. The body is not to be punished or harmed, but to be stewarded with wisdom. God has built into our bodies natural processes of healing and restoration, and those processes are divine because He created them. Healing is not always instant. Sometimes Jesus touched, sometimes He spoke a word from a distance, sometimes healing came gradually. He is not confined to one pattern. For weight loss this often means a gradual and safe path, with wise and healthy choices, consistent habits, and patience, trusting God to work through both prayer and the ordinary means He has provided. We have prayed for wisdom, self control, strength, and for health to be restored in a safe and lasting way.
Second we prayed for healing from past hurts. The prophet Isaiah said He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, and the Gospel shows Jesus fulfilling that by healing sickness and infirmity and by setting free those oppressed in spirit. That bearing covers the body and also the mind and heart. He heals emotional scars and wounds as truly as physical ones. The apostle Paul wrote that all of his past, both his failures and his former grounds for pride, he counted as loss compared to knowing Christ, and that he forgot what was behind and pressed forward. That is a picture for us. Past hurts do not have to define the present when they are brought to Jesus. He can do a healing in the mind and emotions, lifting the weight of what has happened and making the present experience of His grace the valid and living reality. We have prayed that your son would experience that kind of inner healing, that old wounds would lose their hold, and that he would know himself as forgiven, loved, and made new in Christ.
May the Lord give you both peace, assurance that you are kept in His hand, health in body, and wholeness in heart as you continue to look to Jesus who has authority over every spiritual power, who calms what is troubled, and who bears our infirmities with compassion.
