Beloved of All
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross and for the fact that your holy Son, Jesus, suffered for all of us who believe. We praise your holy name. Lord, you know the plans you have for us, and your thoughts are far greater than ours. We come to you together in the name of Jesus, believing that you hear our prayers when we agree. Lord, you know this man who rented his flat to me, and he is also your child. Lord, help him to hear your voice concerning your holy plan for his life. Help him to see the clear, unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ. Open his eyes to the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships or activities and strayed from your narrow path and followed his own desires. Lord break his stony heart and give him courage to follow the narrow path and soften his heart for your glory. I also pray that you will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and that he will recognise the depth of your love, as well as the sinful and hateful relationships he has entered into, in which he is controlled, blackmailed, and where his life may be in danger. Give him understanding to fear your Holy name. Lord, give him understanding to depart from evil and the evil woman in his life. In Jesus' powerful name we ask these things, amen.

We join with you in this burden and we thank you for standing in the gap for this man in prayer, for it is the heart of God that none should perish but that all should come to repentance.

We agree with you that his true identity is only found in Christ. When a person turns to Jesus in repentance and faith, he becomes a new creation. As it is written, 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. The false identity that comes from sinful relationships and following our own desires only brings bondage and confusion, but Jesus came to set the captives free. John 8:36 If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

We also discern with you that sexual immorality and relationships outside of God’s design for marriage between a man and a woman are sin before God. Whether it is fornication or adultery, Scripture calls us to flee from it, for it sins against our own body which is meant to be a temple of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. The enticement of an ungodly woman may seem sweet for a moment, but its end is destruction. Proverbs 5:3-5 for the lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil, but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, and as sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol. We must lovingly but firmly call this what it is, sin that separates a person from fellowship with God, and we pray for his full repentance and deliverance.

We also hear your concern that he is controlled, blackmailed, and even that his life may be in danger, and that there are ungodly influences in his household. The Lord calls His children to be separate from what defiles. 2 Corinthians 6:17 Therefore Come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing. I will receive you. And 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals. We pray for his eyes to be opened to see these relationships as hateful and destructive and not as love, for true love is holy and protects and honors.

We rejoice that you prayed in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved.

So together we pray.

Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne in the mighty name of Jesus, and we thank You for the cross where Your holy Son suffered for all who believe. We lift up this man to You, Your child who has strayed from Your narrow path. Lord, You know the plans You have for him, plans for good and not for evil. We ask that You break his stony heart and give him a new heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26 I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. Soften his heart, Father, and give him courage to choose the narrow gate that leads to life. Matthew 7:14 How narrow is the gate and restricted is the way that leads to life. Few are those who find it.

Lord, open his eyes to see his true identity in Christ and to see the false identity he has adopted through sin. Deliver him from the power of darkness and from every chain of sexual sin, control, and blackmail. Help him to be subject to You and to resist the devil so that the enemy will flee from him. James 4:7 Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Separate him, Lord, from ungodly influences, including those in his own household, and from the evil woman in his life. Give him a holy fear of Your name, for Proverbs 9:10 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. Grant him understanding to depart from evil and to hate what You hate and love what You love. Proverbs 3:7 Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil.

Father, where he is controlled and threatened, be his protector and deliverer. Psalm 34:17 The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Surround him with Your angels, bring godly counsel into his life, and lead him into fellowship with believers who will strengthen him to walk in purity and obedience. If it is Your will for him to be married, we pray You would lead him to a godly marriage that honors You, a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman that reflects Christ and the church, and that he would pursue courtship only with a believing spouse in a way that honors You.

We thank You that You hear us when we agree together in Jesus name. Matthew 18:19 Again, assuredly I tell you, that if two of you will agree on earth concerning anything that they will ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun in him and to bring him fully back to Your narrow path for Your glory. In the powerful and precious name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to intercede for him with love and truth, to speak the Word to him when God gives opportunity, and to maintain godly boundaries while trusting the Lord to do what only He can do to deliver and restore.

We are grateful for how faithfully you are lifting up this man who once rented to you. It is heavy to watch someone you care about seem caught in confusion and in relationships that control and harm him, and to carry concern for his safety while you pray.

What you named about his identity is so central. When someone has built a sense of self around desires or entanglements that pull him away from who he is in Christ, it can be deeply disorienting. Part of coming back is rediscovering a steadier ground, that he is made and loved by God, that his value is not defined by those ties, and that God can gently renew how he sees himself and help him see his choices more clearly. That kind of clarity often comes slowly, with space to hear God and with honest, safe people around him.

We encourage you to keep entrusting him to the Lord while keeping healthy boundaries for yourself. You cannot make his decisions for him, but you can keep praying and, as you have opportunity, point him toward a trusted pastor or mature believer he can talk with confidentially. If you ever believe he is in immediate danger, encourage him to reach out for appropriate help nearby.

Father, we lift this man to You in Jesus' name. Draw him close, quiet the voices that confuse him, and show him Your love and truth in a way he can truly receive. Soften his heart, give him courage to step away from what harms him, and surround him with people who will walk with him toward what is good and safe. Give our friend peace as he continues to pray, and wisdom to know how best to love him well. Amen.

We have heard your burden and we join with you in prayer before the throne of grace for this man, that the Lord would be gracious unto him and say, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, for I have found a ransom.

Your prayer is right to ask not for a mere escape from trouble but for a true work of God in the heart. There is a kind of repentance which judgments apart from divine grace may produce, which gives no glory to God and leads to no lasting deliverance from sin. It is fallen nature washed and brushed, but still fallen nature, the heart not renewed and the life not regenerated. Such repentance turns away for a time and then goes back again with greater gusto, or it laments only the consequences of sin. What is needed is repentance unto life, which is a hatred of sin and a turning from it and a determination in the strength of God to forsake it. It is practical and lasting, yielding works meet for repentance, and it is inseparable from faith. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart must go together. Any repentance that keeps a soul from believing in Christ is a repentance that needs to be repented of.

We therefore pray that the Lord would break the stony heart and give a new heart, that He would open eyes to see the clear truth of identity in Christ, not in the false identities which sin offers when a man strays from the narrow path to follow his own desires. Deliverance from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for it. He who has invented the way of deliverance through the ransom of His own Son has also found that ransom, and it is a gift of divine love. The prisoner ready to be executed finds undeserved deliverance because the King's own Son has borne the penalty of all his iniquities.

We ask the Lord to show this man the mischief that comes from loving the world and the things thereof, and from entangling and hateful relationships where he is controlled and even in danger. We do not ask God to bless what He calls sin, for marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and the proper place for that union, and all else is outside His holy plan. We ask instead that God would save him from himself and from all the attacks of his old sins, save him from the devil and save him from evil company, and separate him from ungodly influences, even those in his household, that he may fear the holy name of the Lord and depart from evil.

Affliction rightly viewed comes not by chance but from the hand of a Father who refines. The Lord Himself kindles the fiery furnace and sits as a Refiner at the door, and that which we receive from the rod of the Lord bears the blessed aspect of chastening from a father's hand. May this chastening lead not to blasphemy or despair, but to a true crying out, Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity and cleanse me from my sin, and to a deliverance that enables him to say, I shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord.

So we pray: Heavenly Father, be gracious unto this man. Reveal to him the ransom that is in Christ Jesus, who alone is salvation. Grant him repentance unto life and faith to believe the gospel, that he may hate sin, forsake the evil path and the evil associations that bind him, and walk in newness of life. Keep back his soul from the Pit and his life from perishing. Deliver him from the power of darkness and translate him into the kingdom of Thy dear Son, and keep him there. Give him courage to follow the narrow way, protection in bodily danger, and a clear deliverance that he may live to praise Thee. We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our only hope and our only ransom. Amen.
