We join with you in this deliverance prayer and we thank you for bringing this man before the Lord with such compassion and discernment. We agree together in the name of Jesus, for He has promised that if two of us agree on earth concerning anything that we ask, it will be done for us by our Father who is in heaven, Matthew 18:19.
We praise God that you have centered this prayer on the cross and on the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only through His blood that deliverance is possible. As it is written, if the Son therefore will make you free, you will be free indeed, John 8:36, and there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12.
We see the burden you carry for this man who rented his flat to you. We understand your concern that he has adopted a false identity through sinful relationships and activities and has strayed from the narrow path to follow his own desires. The Word tells us that narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life, and few are those who find it, Matthew 7:14, and that broad path of following our own desires leads to destruction. When a person walks in sexual immorality or any sin outside of God's design, he indeed takes on a false identity, but the truth is that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new, 2 Corinthians 5:17. His true identity can only be found in Christ, not in sin.
We must lovingly and clearly address what you have discerned about the sinful and hateful relationships and the evil woman in his life. Scripture is very clear that we are to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. Whether this is fornication, which is sex before or outside of marriage, or adultery, which is unfaithfulness within marriage, it is sin that separates a man from God and brings him under control and bondage. The lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil, but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, and as sharp as a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol, Proverbs 5:3-5. We agree with you that he must depart from evil and from this ungodly influence, for bad company corrupts good morals, 1 Corinthians 15:33. God's will for a man and a woman is sanctity in marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and any intimacy outside of that holy covenant is sin to be repented of. If God has marriage for this man, we pray it would be a godly marriage to a believing woman that honors the Lord, and until then he is called to purity and holiness.
We also hear your prayer for his stony heart to be broken and softened and for him to fear the Holy name of the Lord. This is the very work of God, for He says I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh, Ezekiel 36:26. And the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding, Proverbs 9:10. Without the fear of the Lord a man will continue to be controlled, blackmailed and even in danger, but when he submits to God and resists the devil, the devil will flee from him, James 4:7.
So we pray together with you now.
Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne of grace in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ. We thank You for the cross and for the precious blood of Your Son who suffered for all who believe. Lord, You know this man, You know his household and every ungodly influence that surrounds him, and You know the plans You have for him, plans for peace and not for evil, to give him hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11. Lord, we ask that You open his eyes to see the clear and unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ and to renounce the false identity he adopted through sin. Bring him to deep conviction and repentance, for if we confess our sins, You are faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. Soften his heart, break his stony heart, and give him a heart of flesh that trembles at Your Word. Grant him courage to choose the narrow path and to walk in holiness for Your glory. Lord, by Your power, separate him from every controlling, hateful and sinful relationship and from the evil woman who has ensnared him. Deliver him from blackmail, from control, and from every danger to his life. Surround him with Your protection, for You are our refuge and fortress, and rescue him from the snares of the enemy. Fill him with the fear of Your holy name so that he will hate evil and depart from it, Proverbs 8:13, and lead him into fellowship with godly believers who will speak truth and encourage him in the faith. Transform him by the renewing of his mind, Romans 12:2, that he may discern Your good and perfect will. We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to continue to stand in the gap for him with persistent prayer and with the Word, speaking truth in love when God gives opportunity, and trusting that the Lord who began a good work will be faithful to complete it.
