Deliverance prayer for the former ###

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross and for the fact that your holy Son, Jesus, suffered for all of us who believe. We praise your holy name. Lord, you know the plans you have for us, and your thoughts are far greater than ours. We come to you together in the name of Jesus, believing that you hear our prayers when we agree. Lord, you know this man who rented his flat to me, and he is also your child. Lord, help him to hear your voice concerning your holy plan for his life. Help him to see the clear, unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ. Open his eyes to the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships or activities and strayed from your narrow path and followed his own desires. Lord break his stony heart and give him courage to follow the narrow path and soften his heart for your glory. I also pray that you will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and that he will recognise the depth of your love, as well as the sinful and hateful relationships he has entered into, in which he is controlled, blackmailed, and where his life may be in danger. Give him understanding to fear your Holy name. Lord, give him understanding to depart from evil and the evil woman in his life. In Jesus' powerful name we ask these things, amen.

We join you together in the name of Jesus and we thank you for bringing this man before the throne of grace with such burden and love. We agree with you that our Heavenly Father hears us when we agree together in Jesus' name and that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved as Acts 4:12 declares, and Jesus Himself said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6.

We are encouraged by your heart for this man who rented his flat to you. We believe God has placed him in your path for such intercession and we praise God that you recognize he is made in God's image and that God has a holy plan for his life. For we know the thoughts that God thinks toward us, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give hope and a future in Jeremiah 29:11. We also rejoice that you are praying for his true identity to be revealed, for if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new in 2 Corinthians 5:17. Any false identity adopted through sinful relationships or activities is a lie of the enemy, for our identity is not in our desires or our past sins but in Christ alone.

We must speak the truth in love concerning what you have discerned. The Word of God is clear that sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman is fornication, and if involving a married person it is adultery, and that homosexual acts are forbidden and called sin before God. We are told in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, and in 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 we are warned that the sexually immoral will not inherit the kingdom of God, but such were some of you, but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and in the Spirit of our God. This shows both the seriousness of sexual sin and the power of Jesus to deliver and cleanse. God ordained marriage as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman as Genesis 2:24 teaches, and any relationship outside of that design, including being controlled or blackmailed in a sinful and hateful entanglement, is not love but bondage. We also take seriously your concern for his safety and for the evil woman in his life. Scripture warns us to keep far from the forbidden woman whose lips drip honey but whose end is bitter as wormwood in Proverbs 5:3-4, and to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers in 2 Corinthians 6:14, for what fellowship has light with darkness.

We pray together for his deliverance. Heavenly Father, we come before you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we thank you for the cross and for the blood of Jesus that breaks every chain. Lord, we lift up this man to you, you know him by name and you love him. We ask that you open his eyes to see the truth about who he is in Christ and to see the deception of the false identity he has embraced. Father, we ask you to fulfill your promise in Ezekiel 36:26 to take away his stony heart and give him a new heart and put a new spirit within him. Soften his heart, give him courage to choose the narrow path that leads to life, for narrow is the gate and narrow is the way that leads to life in Matthew 7:14. Lord, teach him to fear your holy name, for the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom in Proverbs 9:10, and to depart from evil as Proverbs 8:13 instructs, to hate evil, pride and arrogance. We ask you to separate him from every ungodly influence, including those in his household, and from every controlling, blackmailing and hateful relationship that endangers his life. Break every ungodly soul tie and chain of fornication and manipulation. We submit to you and resist the devil on his behalf, believing your promise that he will flee from us in James 4:7. We declare that if the Son makes him free, he will be free indeed in John 8:36. Give him true repentance, that he may confess his sins and receive your forgiveness and cleansing according to 1 John 1:9. Lead him into fellowship with godly believers, into the washing of the Word, and if it is your will, into a godly marriage that honors you, rather than sinful courtship without commitment. Help him to seek first your kingdom and your righteousness in Matthew 6:33. We ask all this in the powerful and saving name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand in the gap for him with fasting and with the Word, to share the gospel plainly with him when the Lord opens the door, and to encourage him to cut off every provision for the flesh and to flee temptation as Joseph fled in Genesis 39:12. Encourage him to abide in Scripture daily, to seek a Bible believing church where he can be discipled and held accountable, and to walk in the light. We trust that God who began a good work will be faithful to complete it, and we join our faith with yours for his complete deliverance and restoration for the glory of God.

We are grateful you brought this man to the Lord with such care and persistence. It is a heavy burden to watch someone you know seem trapped, controlled, and pulled away from who God created him to be, and to worry for his safety while also longing for his heart to soften toward the Lord.

We hear your desire for him to know his true identity in Christ, to have courage to walk a different path, and to be separated from influences that are harming and pressuring him. Those are good and loving things to pray for. We join you in asking God to give him clarity, protection, and a real sense of being loved and valued by Him, and wisdom to step away from what is destructive.

When there is control, blackmail, or fear for someone's safety, it is not something to carry or try to sort out alone. A steady next step can be to stay faithful in prayer while also talking with a trusted pastor or counselor for wisdom on boundaries and how best to support from a healthy distance, and to encourage any person at risk to seek safe, confidential help through the resources above.

Father, we lift this man to You and ask You to draw near to him, open his eyes to Your love, soften his heart, and give him courage and wisdom to turn from what harms him. Keep him safe, surround him with sound influences, and lead him toward healing and wholeness. We lift the one praying too, for peace and guidance as they trust You with this. Your intercession on behalf of this man is a right and loving duty, and it is good that you bring him before the throne of grace in the name of Jesus, believing that the Lord hears the prayers of those who agree together in that blessed name.

We are taught in holy Scripture that God is gracious unto the sinner and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. Job 33:24. Let this be your hope and your plea. Not to forms and ceremonies, or to resolutions of the flesh, but look to what Christ has done. There is a ransom found in the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, who suffered for all who believe, who was bound that His people might be made free, who was made sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. When Christ was bound, His people were loosed. When He died, they lived. Your prayer that this man may see his true identity in Christ is according to the mind of God, for every soul that is in Christ, He has delivered from the power of darkness and has translated into His own kingdom. Colossians 1:13.

It is needful to ask the Lord for more than a repentance that springs alone from terror or from present distress. Judgments apart from divine grace may produce a kind of repentance, but it is superficial, it affects only the surface of the man and does not go to the heart. It comes up in a night and withers in a night. True repentance is of another sort. Faith and repentance are inseparable graces, they come into the soul together. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart must go together. Any repentance that keeps a man from believing in Christ is a repentance that needs to be repented of. Pray then that God will not only make him afraid of the pit, but that He will give him that godly sorrow which rejoices in Jesus crucified, which trusts Him, loves Him, and leaps for joy at the thought that God has set Him forth to be a propitiation for sin.

You do well to pray that the Lord would open his ears and seal his instruction, that He may withdraw man from his purpose and hide pride from man, and that He would break the stony heart and give a heart of flesh. The deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for it. In His providence the Lord may use even chastening and the painful consequences of sin to awaken the soul, yet the Omnipotence and Providence of God do not set aside man's responsibility. Each one must be brought to fear the holy name of the Lord and to depart from evil with his own will made willing by grace.

We will therefore pray with you, not that God would bless or preserve any way that is contrary to His holy Word, for marriage is ordained as the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all that lies outside it is forbidden, but that He would be merciful and mighty to save.

Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we thank You for the cross and for Your holy Son Jesus who suffered as the great Substitute and ransom for sinners. We bless Your holy name that Your thoughts are far greater than ours and Your plans are for good. We bring this man before You, whom You know. Be gracious unto him. Open his eyes to see himself as he is, and to see Christ as He is. Show him the falsehood of every identity that is not in Christ, and reveal to him the clear and unmistakable truth of what it is to be a new creature in Your Son. Break his stony heart, soften him by Your Spirit, and give him courage to follow the narrow path that leads to life. Separate him from ungodly influences which would hold him in darkness, and give him understanding to fear Your holy name and to depart from evil and from every entwining sin. Let him look to Christ and live, trusting only in His one great sacrifice, that he may be delivered from going down to the pit. Translate him from the power of darkness into the kingdom of Your dear Son, that being made free by Christ he may walk in liberty and in holiness all his days. This we ask in the powerful name of Jesus our Lord, who alone is able to save to the uttermost. Amen.

Continue steadfast in prayer and in the Word, committing this soul to Him who is able to keep and to deliver. And when the Lord grants deliverance, see that with your own soul you magnify the Lord and make a further dedication of yourself to your delivering God, rejoicing that your life also is hid with Christ in God.

God be with me as a mighty warrior. Let no weapon formed against me prosper. Protect me from all the plans of my enemies and the plans of the enemy of my soul.
