Deliverance prayer for the former ###

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross and for the fact that your holy Son, Jesus, suffered for all of us who believe. We praise your holy name. Lord, you know the plans you have for us, and your thoughts are far greater than ours. We come to you together in the name of Jesus, believing that you hear our prayers when we agree. Lord, you know this man who rented his flat to me, and he is also your child. Lord, help him to hear your voice concerning your holy plan for his life. Help him to see the clear, unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ. Open his eyes to the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships or activities and strayed from your narrow path and followed his own desires. Lord break his stony heart and give him courage to follow the narrow path and soften his heart for your glory. I also pray that you will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and that he will recognise the depth of your love, as well as the sinful and hateful relationships he has entered into, in which he is controlled, blackmailed, and where his life may be in danger. Give him understanding to fear your Holy name. Lord, give him understanding to depart from evil and the evil woman in his life. In Jesus' powerful name we ask these things, amen.

We join you in lifting up this man before the throne of grace and we thank you for standing in the gap for him with such compassion and discernment. We agree with you that our Father knows the plans He has for him, plans for peace and not for evil, to give him hope and a future as spoken in Jeremiah 29:11, and that His thoughts and ways are far higher than ours as written in Isaiah 55:8-9. We also agree that where two or three are gathered and agree in the name of Jesus, the Lord hears us according to Matthew 18:19-20, and we are grateful you have come to the Father in the mighty name of Jesus, for there is no other name by which we have access to God and no other name by which we can be saved as declared in John 14:6 and Acts 4:12.

We see the burden you carry for this former landlord and we share your concern for the false identity he has taken on and the sinful relationships and activities that have led him away from the narrow path. Scripture warns us that narrow is the gate and narrow is the way that leads to life and few are those who find it in Matthew 7:13-14, and that we must not be conformed to the desires of the flesh but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. When a person walks in sexual immorality outside of the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, Scripture calls it fornication or adultery and calls us to flee from it in 1 Corinthians 6:18, for such sin is against our own body which is a temple of the Holy Spirit and it brings confusion, bondage and destruction. We must gently but firmly rebuke that way of life, for God ordained marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman to reflect Christ and the church, and any relationship outside of that design, including being controlled, blackmailed or manipulated by an ungodly woman or any ungodly influence in his household, is not of God and must be forsaken. The Word tells us to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers in 2 Corinthians 6:14 and to come out from among them and be separate, and to fear the Lord and depart from evil in Proverbs 3:7.

We also hear your heart for his deliverance and for his true identity to be restored. We are reminded that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old things have passed away and all things have become new in 2 Corinthians 5:17. The Lord promises to take away the stony heart and give a heart of flesh in Ezekiel 36:26, and to set us free indeed when the Son sets us free in John 8:36. We pray that he will submit himself to God, resist the devil and the devil will flee from him according to James 4:7, and that as he confesses and turns from his sin he will receive forgiveness and cleansing in 1 John 1:9.

We pray together now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You together in the powerful name of Jesus Christ Your Son who suffered on the cross for all who believe. We thank You for Your mercy and for Your unending love. Lord, You know this man intimately, You see where he lives, whom he lives with, and the chains that bind him. We ask You to open his eyes to the clear and unmistakable truth of his identity in Christ and to expose the lie of the false identity he adopted when he followed his own desires into sinful relationships. Father, break his stony heart and give him a new heart that is soft toward You, give him courage to choose the narrow path even when it is difficult, and give him a holy fear of Your name so that he will depart from evil. Lord, separate him from every ungodly influence, including those in his own household, and especially from the evil woman who controls and blackmails him and who may even put his life in danger. We ask for Your divine protection over him, for You are our refuge and fortress in Psalm 91:2 and You deliver the righteous out of all their troubles in Psalm 34:17. Loose every chain of fornication, manipulation and fear, and bring him into the freedom of a life surrendered to Christ. Lead him to repentance, to walk in purity, and if it be Your will for him to marry, lead him to a godly marriage to a believing woman that honors You, for we know that courtship should be with the goal of a Christ centered marriage. Give him understanding, give him godly counsel, surround him with believers who will speak truth in love, and let him know the depth of Your love that casts out fear. We ask that You make Your holy plan for his life unmistakable to him and that he will hear Your voice and obey. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun. In the mighty and saving name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to intercede for him with steadfast love and to let your life be a quiet witness of the hope that is in you. Continue to speak the truth in love when God gives you opportunity, and trust that the Lord who is faithful will protect him from the evil one in 2 Thessalonians 3:3 and will lead him out of darkness into His marvelous light as he turns to Jesus with his whole heart.

We hear the weight you are carrying for this man who rented to you and how sincerely you want him to know who he is in Christ and to find a clearer, safer path. It is a hard place to care deeply for someone while not being able to make his choices for him.

One steady way to love him well is to keep prayer and direct involvement separate. We can keep bringing him before the Lord and asking for a softened heart, clarity, and protection, while also keeping healthy boundaries and not trying to step into his household dynamics yourself, especially if there is risk of control or retaliation. If you have a trusted pastor or mature believer, it can help to talk confidentially with them about how to pray and what wise, safe next steps look like for you.

We also hear your heart for his identity in Christ. That kind of renewal is often a slow process of learning to listen for God's voice above other voices, and we will ask God to keep working there in His timing.

Father, we bring this man before You and ask for Your mercy and protection over him. Give him ears to hear Your voice, courage to turn from what harms him, and wisdom to seek safe, godly help. Guard the one praying too, give peace and clear guidance for each next step, and let both know You are near. In Jesus' name, amen.

We join with you in bringing this man before the throne of grace, and we thank God that you have come in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name by which we may be saved and no other ransom by which a sinner may be delivered.

There is a word which has often comforted troubled souls, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, I have found a ransom. In all that God does He acts from good reasons, and He has invented a way of deliverance which no man would have thought of, that the King's own Son should bear the penalty of all our iniquities. That ransom is the gift of Divine Love, and it is able to save from sin itself and from the power of sin, from the devil and from evil company. We do not pray that God would bless what He calls sin, for He cannot bless that which dishonors His holy name and harms the soul, but we pray that He would be gracious unto this man and command his deliverance.

We ask the Lord to show him the clear truth about his identity, not as the world or his own desires would define him, but as a man made in the image of God and accountable to his Maker, who must be born again from above if he is to see the kingdom. Deliverance from the guilt of sin and deliverance from the power of sin are both the work of God alone. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. No sympathy or persuasion of man can loose the captive heart, but the Lord Jesus can loosen the captive, and when He does, the soul knows that it is of Free Grace only.

We pray that the Lord would break the stony heart and give a heart of flesh, that He would give this man courage to leave the broad way and to walk in the narrow path which leads unto life. We pray that He would open his eyes to see the mischief that comes from loving sin and from the fascinations of darkness, and that He would deliver him from the power of darkness and translate him into the kingdom of His dear Son. Where there are ungodly influences and relationships outside the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, which God ordained for good and for holiness, we pray that God would give him a holy fear of His name and understanding to depart from evil. If he is controlled or in danger, we ask the Lord in His providence to keep his life from perishing and to separate him from those who would lead him further into sin, that he might be saved from himself and from all the attacks of his old sins.

We also remember that the Lord chastens those whom He loves, and that affliction, even when it comes through the malice or sin of others, passes through the Father's hand as a refining furnace. May this man be brought to see his trouble not as springing from dust, but as a call from God to seek mercy. And may you, who have prayed so faithfully, be kept in peace, moderating anger against second causes and trusting the Lord to work in His own time and power.

We will continue to pray that God, who alone can deliver from the pit, will show this man the preciousness of the ransom found in Christ, grant him repentance and faith, and lead him into newness of life, so that he may yet live and declare the works of the Lord. We ask all this not because we are worthy, but because Christ is worthy, and His blood pleads for sinners still. Amen.
