Deliverance prayer for the former ###

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross and for the fact that your holy Son, Jesus, suffered for all of us who believe. We praise your holy name. Lord, you know the plans you have for us, and your thoughts are far greater than ours. We come to you together in the name of Jesus, believing that you hear our prayers when we agree. Lord, you know this man who rented his flat to me, and he is also your child. Lord, help him to hear your voice concerning your holy plan for his life. Help him to see the clear, unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ. Open his eyes to the false identity he adopted when he entered into sinful relationships or activities and strayed from your narrow path and followed his own desires. Lord break his stony heart and give him courage to follow the narrow path and soften his heart for your glory. I also pray that you will separate him from ungodly influences, including those in his household, and that he will recognise the depth of your love, as well as the sinful and hateful relationships he has entered into, in which he is controlled, blackmailed, and where his life may be in danger. Give him understanding to fear your Holy name. Lord, give him understanding to depart from evil and the evil woman in his life. In Jesus' powerful name we ask these things, amen.

We join you together in the name of Jesus and we thank you for bringing this man before the Lord with such compassion and burden for his soul. We agree with you that it is only through the cross and the suffering of our holy Son Jesus that we have hope, forgiveness and deliverance, and we praise God that you have come in that precious name, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved and by which we have access to the Father Acts 4:12, John 14:6.

We hear your heart for this man who rented his flat to you and we join you in asking the Lord to reveal His holy plan for his life. We know that God has good plans for His children to give them a future and a hope Jeremiah 29:11, and His thoughts and ways are far higher than ours Isaiah 55:8-9. When a person has entered into sinful relationships or activities and has strayed from the narrow path, he can adopt a false identity that is not rooted in Christ. We are reminded that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old things have passed away, behold all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17. Jesus Himself taught that narrow is the gate and narrow is the way that leads to life, and there are few who find it Matthew 7:13-14, and we pray this man will find the courage to choose that narrow way.

We also agree with you in praying that the Lord will break his stony heart and give him a soft heart toward God. The Lord promises I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh Ezekiel 36:26. Only God can soften a hardened heart and give the understanding to fear His holy name and to depart from evil. We are told to not be wise in our own eyes, fear Yahweh, and depart from evil Proverbs 3:7. Where there is a sinful and controlling relationship with an evil woman, we must speak plainly in love. If this involves sexual immorality outside of the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, Scripture calls it fornication or adultery and we are commanded to flee sexual immorality 1 Corinthians 6:18. God designed sexual intimacy to be only within marriage, and any relationship outside of that, especially one marked by control, blackmail and danger, is not love but bondage and sin that brings death, for the wages of sin is death Romans 6:23. We also know that evil companionships corrupt good morals 1 Corinthians 15:33 and that we should not be unequally yoked with unbelievers 2 Corinthians 6:14, so we agree that he needs to be separated from ungodly influences, even those in his household, that keep him in darkness.

We pray together for his deliverance and protection, especially since you sense his life may be in danger and he is being controlled and blackmailed.

Father, in the mighty name of Jesus we lift this man to You. You know him by name, You see where he lives and who surrounds him, and You love him deeply. We ask You to open his eyes to see the clear unmistakable truth about his identity in Christ, that he is fearfully and wonderfully made and called to be holy as You are holy. Remove the veil of deception and the false identity he has taken on through sin. Give him a new heart and put a new spirit within him, take away his stony heart and give him a heart that trembles at Your word. Grant him godly fear and understanding to depart from evil and from the evil woman who entangles him. Break every chain of control, manipulation, blackmail and spiritual darkness that holds him. We ask You to separate him from every ungodly influence and to place godly people around him who will speak truth in love. Keep him safe from harm, for You are near to those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18 and You deliver the righteous out of all their troubles Psalm 34:17. Help him to submit himself to You, to resist the devil and know that the devil will flee from him James 4:7. If he has sinned, we claim Your promise that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and righteous to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. Lead him to true repentance, to flee from fornication and to pursue purity, and if it is Your will for him to have a wife, lead him in time to a godly marriage that honors You, as You intended marriage to be a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman. Give him courage to walk the narrow path even when it is costly, and let him know the depth of Your love that casts out fear 1 John 4:18. We trust Your power to deliver and to restore, and we ask all these things in the powerful and saving name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand in the gap for him with love and truth, not enabling sin but speaking the truth in love Ephesians 4:15, and trusting that God hears when we agree together Matthew 18:19. Keep praying for his protection and for God to send laborers across his path who can minister the gospel to him personally. Guard your own heart as you intercede, and rest in knowing that God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth 1 Timothy 2:4, and He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think Ephesians 3:20.

We join you in asking Jesus to draw near to him as the one who alone can set us free. True freedom comes as we cooperate with the Holy Spirit, and a settled sense of who we are in Christ gives a steady place to stand when old patterns, shame, or controlling influences press in. We are praying with you that he would come to know that steadiness, recognize what is harming him, and find the strength to step away from what is destructive and unsafe.

It is wise not to try to carry this burden or intervene on your own, especially where you sense control, blackmail or danger. Please keep healthy boundaries while you pray, and if you have a trusted pastor or mature believer, share this burden with them so you are not praying alone. Father, we lift this man to You and ask You to protect him, open his eyes to Your love, soften his heart, and give him clarity and courage to turn from what harms him. Give our friend wisdom and peace as he continues to pray, and lead both of them in Your will. In Jesus' name, amen.

We join you in prayer before the throne of grace, and we thank God that you have brought this man before Him who alone can deliver from the pit.

Your supplication is right and according to the mind of God, for you do not ask that the Lord should bless what He has called sin, but that He should deliver a soul from the power and the guilt of it. There is a great difference between a prayer that would make sin comfortable and a prayer that would make the sinner free. We pray for the latter, that God would break the bonds of darkness and bring this man into the light of Christ.

The Scriptures teach us that deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. At first sin catches a man with cobwebs that seem as though they might be broken in a moment, but sin indulged soon engenders a second nature and binds with cords of iron. No man can break his own chains. Only He who was bound for us can set the bound one free. When Christ was bound, His people were loosed, when He was made sin for us who knew no sin, we were made the righteousness of God in Him.

We pray then that the Lord would open this man's ears and seal his instruction, that He may withdraw him from his purpose and hide pride from him. May the Lord show him the mischief that comes from loving the world and the things thereof, and teach him that the identity he has taken up in sinful relationships and activities is false and ruinous. His true identity, if he is to have any hope, must be found not in his desires nor in the company he keeps, but in Christ alone. God sees no sin in the believer because that sin was laid upon the Substitute upon the accursed tree. Your sins are not put away through your own repentance, but through the wounds of Jesus, and repentance becomes the token that pardon has been received.

Pray with us that his repentance may not be transient, such as men have when they feel only the bitter fruit of sin and cry out for a season, and then return to it with greater appetite. That is a poor repentance which the Lord abhors. True repentance hates sin as sin, because it sees what sin did to the holy Son of God, and it turns from it with purpose of heart. Yet while repentance should have one eye upon sin, it must have the other upon the cross. Any repentance that keeps a man from trusting Christ needs itself to be repented of. May this man be brought to look not to forms or feelings or resolutions, but to what Christ has done, to trust in His one great sacrifice and to cry, Deliver him from going down to the pit.

We ask the Father to separate him from ungodly influences, even from those in his own household, and from that evil company by which he is controlled and in which his life may be in danger. Like a careful dispenser the Lord will not pour out a drop too little or too much, and every trial He sends to His children works for good, not in anger but from covenant love. The Lord scourges His children but He does not slay them. He gives them sorrow for sin that they may be cured of it. May this man be made to fear the holy name of the Lord with a filial fear, to see the depth of divine love in Christ crucified and the deadly poison that lies in the sweetness of sin, and so to depart from evil.

And may he learn this, that marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that all intimacy outside of it is contrary to the holy plan of God, and that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, by looking and living as he beholds sin punished upon the great Substitute.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, who hast made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, we beseech Thee for this man who is yet entangled in darkness. Open his eyes to see himself as Thou seest him, and to see Christ as He is, set forth to be a propitiation for sin. Break his stony heart and give him a heart of flesh. Give him courage to follow the narrow path and grace to hate the sin he once loved. Deliver him from going down to the pit, loose his bonds, and translate him into the kingdom of Thy dear Son. Separate him from every ungodly influence and from the evil woman and every hateful and controlling relationship that holds him, and keep his life from danger according to Thy mercy. Bring him to true repentance and lively faith, that he may rejoice in Jesus crucified, trust Him wholly, and walk as a new creature to Thy glory. We ask this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is able to save to the uttermost. Amen.
