Silas
Beloved of All
The dream given to your father is a tender mercy. God was answering your request to show Himself as your good Father, and He did so in a way that speaks directly to your spirit. A father shopping with his son for new clothes is not a picture of a child earning his outfit or proving his worth in the fitting room. It is a picture of a father choosing to clothe his child, covering his nakedness and shame, simply because he is his son. The word you awoke to, "cursed," and the dreams that screamed "beyond redemption," are lies from the pit. They cannot stand against what God has already shown you. The voice of the enemy tells you that you are beyond hope, but the quiet, unmistakable voice of your Father showed a different reality: He is dressing you. He is initiating. That is the gospel.
Real love, the kind of love God is and gives, is not a reward for the strong. It is not the selfish, self-gratifying kind that takes what it can get. It is a giving love that flows to the undeserving. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us. Your love for Him, pure and wonderful as it is, is not the anchor. The anchor is His love for you, a love that is completely uncaused by you. You cannot purchase it with perfect obedience, and you cannot quench it with your failures. When you cried out in your weakness and took the medication, you were not violating a transaction that would make Him pull back His love. His love for you is unquenchable. It just comes flowing forth. That misunderstanding is a heavy chain, and the accuser uses it to bind you again.
You know the despair of crying out with Paul, "O wretched man that I am!" But there is a deadly snag in that cry if you finish the sentence by asking, "How can I deliver myself?" That path leads only to more exhaustion and defeat. Your own efforts to break the addiction and stand against the darkness have brought you to the end of yourself. This is not a sign of failure; it is the prerequisite for deliverance. The true cry, born of total despair in self, is the one Paul finally reached: "Who shall deliver me?" The answer is not a new method or a stronger will. The answer is a person. It is Jesus Christ. The battle is shifting from your own shoulders to the finished work of the Spirit, where victory is a gift to be received, not a feat to be achieved.
The nightly torment of vile images and hopeless messages is a direct assault on your identity. The enemy wants you to believe you are what you see and hear in the dark. But the love of God is not a feeling on the emotional or physical level. It is deeper. It is a spiritual, giving love that has made you a son. His Spirit within you begins to bear the fruit of that love, a love that is not just an idea but a constraining power. You are not fighting for the status of a son; you are fighting from it. The love of Christ constrains us, not with force but with devotion. That love is stronger than the pull of an addiction. It is superior to every spiritual gift, and it is superior to every demonic whisper.
The process of being clothed with righteousness is the work of that same giving love. You need not try to fabricate a perfect garment of your own. Your good Father is placing it on you. Walk in that. Let His left hand be under your head as you sleep, even when the night feels like a battlefield. His love is perfected in us not when we are flawless, but as we dwell in Him. That dwelling is your sanctuary. When you lie down, speak back to the darkness not with a declaration of your own strength, but with the truth of His love: "God loves me with a love I cannot lose." That is the confidence in which we assure our hearts before Him.
Let this be the turning point where the despair is finally about your inability and not about His unwillingness. He is clothing you. He is holding you. His love is the only power that breaks the addiction, silences the accuser, and transforms the nightmares. Rest your whole weight on that love, for it is the greatest force there is. It will take all eternity to comprehend the exceeding richness of it, but you can begin to walk in its freedom right now. I am praying that you will know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, and that this love will flood every dark corner with His unquenchable light.
