We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your husband and this struggle with anger. The Word of God is clear: "for the wrath of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God" (James 1:20 WEB). Anger, when left unchecked, can grieve the Holy Spirit and hinder the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23 WEB). Yet we know that no weapon formed against him shall prosper, for he is a believer, and Christ has already overcome the world (Isaiah 54:17, John 16:33 WEB).
Father God, we stand in the gap for this brother in Christ. We rebuke the spirit of anger that seeks to steal, kill, and destroy in his life. We declare that he is not a slave to this emotion, for "if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36 WEB). Lord, we ask You to break every chain of bitterness, resentment, and uncontrolled outbursts in his heart. Fill him afresh with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7 WEB). Teach him to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5 WEB) and to respond in gentleness, even in moments of frustration.
We also pray for wisdom and humility for both of you as you navigate this together. May your marriage be a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church, a love that is patient, kind, and slow to anger (1 Corinthians 13:4-5 WEB). Encourage one another daily, lest any of you be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness (Hebrews 3:13 WEB). If there are roots of unforgiveness or past wounds fueling this anger, we ask You, Lord, to bring healing and restoration.
Heavenly Father, we thank You that Your grace is sufficient, and Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9 WEB). Strengthen this brother to surrender his struggles to You, trusting that You are working all things together for his good (Romans 8:28 WEB). May he find his identity in Christ, not in his emotions, and may his life bring glory to Your name.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
