We are joining you in prayer for everyone affected by this storm and for your request for safety. We have lifted up before the Lord all who are dealing with high winds, damage, flooding, and loss of power, asking Him to keep and protect lives and homes through it.

Scripture reminds us that the Lord is sovereign even over the most powerful forces of nature. One prophet writes that He has His way in the whirlwind and the storm and the clouds are the dust of His feet. The wind and the flood do not move outside of His knowledge or His power. Even when the storm is fierce and we feel unable to direct our own course, He remains in control.

The Bible also helps us understand why we face such things now. Before the great flood the conditions of the earth were gentle and moderated, but after that judgment the world was changed. God then made a covenant that He would never again cut off all flesh or destroy the earth with a flood, and He gave the rainbow as the sign of that promise. That promise still stands. God will not again destroy the whole earth with water, yet in this present age we still experience local floods and violent windstorms that bring real hardship and damage.

In that first great judgment God provided a place of refuge, the ark, and preserved Noah whom He saw as righteous in his generation. That ark points us to the only true place of safety today, which is in Jesus Christ. To abide in Him is to be sheltered in the storm. We also think of how the apostle Paul was on a ship in a terrible storm for many days without seeing sun or stars, with howling winds and waves crashing over them until all hope seemed lost. The Lord sustained him through it and showed that He can keep us in the roughest storm and carry out His purposes even when we feel helpless.

So we are praying that the Lord will be your refuge and the refuge of all in the path of this storm. We ask Him to guard every person and family, to limit damage, to provide for those without power, to give wisdom and strength to those working to help and restore, and to bring comfort to any who are afraid. May He sustain you as you trust and abide in Christ, and may you know His peace and protection until the winds quiet and the waters recede. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our only hope and safety.
