We lift our hearts together in gratitude for God’s daily mercies and faithfulness, just as Lamentations 3:23 declares, "They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." It is a profound truth that His compassions never fail, and we stand in awe of His unchanging nature.

We recognize the tension you feel between holding onto the past, interceding for those who have strayed, particularly for the salvation and transformation of, while also embracing the new things God is doing, as Isaiah 42:9 proclaims, "Behold, the former things have happened, and I declare new things. I tell you about them before they come up." This is a holy tension, one that requires wisdom and grace. Ecclesiastes 7:18 reminds us, "It is good that you should take hold of this. Yes, also from that don’t withdraw your hand; for he who fears God will come out of them all." We must not let go of our prayers for the lost, even as we step forward into the new works God has prepared for us.

Yet we must also guard our hearts against being so consumed by the past that we miss the opportunities God places before us today. Titus 3:14 exhorts us, "Let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful." There is a balance to be struck, one that requires us to trust God with those we intercede for while remaining faithful to the duties He has called us to in the present. We pray for grace to navigate this balance, that we might neither neglect the lost nor neglect the flock God has entrusted to our care (Acts 20:28).

Father, we ask You to open doors for us, doors of nearness to You, doors of opportunity to share the Gospel, and doors to strengthen the Body of Christ through Bible study, prayer, and discipleship. As Revelation 3:7-8 promises, "He who is holy, he who is true, he who has the key of David, he who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says these things: β€˜I have set before you an open door, which no one can shut.’" We trust You to lead us through these doors, and we ask for the courage to walk through them in faith.

We also pray for protection, from temptation, sin, evil, and the schemes of the enemy. As Jesus taught us to pray, "Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one" (Matthew 6:13). Guard our hearts and minds, Lord, that we may run the race set before us with endurance, laying aside every weight and sin that so easily entangles (Hebrews 12:1-2). Help us to forget what lies behind and press forward toward the upward call of Christ (Philippians 3:13-14), running in such a way that we may win the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24).

We ask for grace to set things in order (Titus 1:5), to finish the tasks You have given us (Revelation 3:2), and to meet the pressing needs around us. Strengthen us to abide in Your Word and to make disciples, as You have commissioned us (Matthew 28:19-20). Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that we may overflow with His power and love in every area of our lives.

Finally, we acknowledge that all of this is only possible through the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name by which we can approach You, for "there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). We come before You in His name, trusting in His finished work on the cross and His resurrection power at work within us.

May we walk in the newness of life, embracing the new things You are doing while remaining steadfast in prayer for those who have not yet come to know You. Equip us, Lord, to be faithful in both intercession and action, that Your name may be glorified in all we do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We understand the tension you're describing, carrying a continued burden to intercede for particular people and past situations, while sensing the Spirit's nudge to focus primarily on the new things God is doing right now. That desire to hold both in a holy balance, not abandoning one to take up the other, is itself a sign of faithfulness.

One practice that has helped many of us when our hearts are pulled in these directions is to set aside a regular, bounded time specifically for those "former things", perhaps a few minutes each morning or a set day of the week. Use that dedicated window to pour out those long-held prayers before the Lord, then deliberately release them into His hands for the rest of the day. This can free you to give your full attention to the new duties, the flock among you, and the open doors for the gospel without carrying quiet guilt or distraction. You're not letting go of the one; you're entrusting it to the One who never forgets.

As you move forward, we'd also gently encourage you to seek out a mature friend or prayer partner who can help share the weight of that intercession, so you don't bear it alone while you obey the fresh call.

Let's pray:

Father, thank You for the daily mercies You have shown and for the new things You are bringing forth. Grant our friend the grace to hold fast to intercession for those still on their journey toward repentance and faith, while pressing ahead with peace into the work You have opened now. Protect from every distraction and from the evil one, and let the gospel advance through open doors. In Jesus' name, amen.

The command to Moses and to Israel was sharp and clear: "Forward!" Not backward, not stationary in prayerful paralysis, but forward into the very sea that barred the way. You have tasted the daily mercies, fresh as the manna, and the faithfulness that is new every morning. Give thanks for that past provision, but do not camp there as if the journey were complete. The gratitude that does not energize present duty is but a sentiment that soon sours. You are asking for grace to take hold of one thing without letting go of the other, this is well. But the greater peril now is that the backward glance and the continual intercession for those who have rejected light become a snare, an encumbrance that tangles your feet in the race set before you.

It is God who writes intercession upon the heart, yet even Samuel ceased his nightly groanings for Saul when the Lord said, "How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him?" To pray for the full salvation of souls is never sin, God forbid you should cease praying for the lost. But you cannot lean on past actions any more than you would trust yourself over a pit swinging by a spider’s web. Your past life, and the past relationships bound up in it, avail nothing for present duty. The Holy Spirit’s intercession is for the saints, not for the world, and the new heart He has given you beats not to pump life into dead memories but to throb with the present life of Christ. A new heart is better than a new coat, and to feed upon Christ now is better than to pine after husks which former companions still devour.

Therefore, let your primary focus be the new thing. Has He not declared new things before they spring forth? Open doors for the Gospel are set before you, and you stand hesitating at the threshold because you keep looking over your shoulder at those who refuse to enter. Forward, in God’s name, forward! What have you to do with their fitness or your perpetual anxiety over their state? Tell them to go forward, preach Christ to them, and then leave them with God. Your duty is to minister where you are, to set in order the things that are wanting, to strengthen the things that remain, to run so as to win. When Peter’s wife’s mother was healed of the fever, she arose at once and ministered unto them. She did not stay in bed composing prayers for the fever to leave others; her gratitude took the form of immediate, active service. That is the ministry of gratitude.

You see, it is a subtle danger when worldly sorrows and even spiritual solicitudes for the unregenerate press into the soul like fine new dresses that distract from worship. Prosperity in prayer can lead to an almost imperceptible alienation of heart from the present call if the prayer itself becomes a shrine where Jeroboam’s calves are set up. Beware of making an idol out of intercession for a particular soul, for it can keep you from going forward to Jerusalem to worship with the whole assembly. The Church meeting nights are harvest nights, and your minister and your brethren need your hands and heart focused on the fields white unto harvest among you now. There is room in Christ’s Church for your ministry; the condescension of Christ is seen in that He leaves work for you to do. Do it.

Set all things in order. Finish every task. Meet every pressing need that is before your face. Run in such a way that you might win those around you now, forgetting those things which are behind. The apostle had a great burden for his kinsmen according to the flesh, yet he did not let it hinder his pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. The very first thing a healed sinner does is ask, "Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?", and then do it, even if it costs past friends, cold shoulders, and persecution. You have nothing to do with those consequences; your business is to follow the Shepherd’s voice as He leads you out to new pastures and fresh waters. Forward, then, into the open door, making full proof of your ministry, and let the dead bury their dead.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The prayer asked for grace to take hold of one thing without letting go of the other, and this is a right desire, for the types like patterns anticipated the new covenant, and Christ came and fulfilled them. Consider how the fullness of the times arrived when all were perishing, and then they were rescued by a dispensation of grace. What belongs to the past has been completed in Him; yet the former things, the very ones for whom you intercede, are not forgotten, for He ever lives to make intercession. He obtained this not by making intercession once for all, but continually and whenever it may be needful to intercede for them.

You see the dignity of apostles, that of nothing sensible are they commanded to speak, but of new and strange things. The new things spoken by the prophets are now present, and the former things are not to be discarded but seen as fulfilled. The apostle made clear that for His Body’s sake he suffered, saying, β€œthat which is lacking,” to show that not even yet does he consider Christ to have suffered all. For your sake, even after His death He suffers. This is why the ministry entrusted to us is great, and why we must attend to the duties set before us, to meet every pressing need and to set all things in order.

Yet take care not to let intercession for the former become a snare of indolence. If we think we can be always going to be saved by grace we shall never be good. For where there is but one grace, and we are yet indolent, should we cease sinning if we knew it possible to have our sins washed away again? The grace of remission is indeed a gift once for all, but it does not grant license to linger forever in what is behind. Lay aside every encumbrance and the diversions that distract from the primary task of the upward call. The remnant according to the election of grace is not those who merely call to mind old mercies, but those who press forward in the race set before them.

Therefore, fulfill your ministry. You have been given the word of reconciliation and gifts differing according to the grace given. The doors for the gospel that you seek will open as you exercise the grace you already received, for God promised to put His laws into the mind and write them on the heart. Let your running be in a way to win, not by forgetting the past entirely but by no longer allowing it to absorb the main focus now appointed. Hold both together: the continued intercession, and the new evangelism and discipleship among the flock present with you. Christ is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God by Him, seeing He ever lives. Walk in that confidence, and you will find protection from the evil one and grace to navigate what lies ahead.
