We hear your heartfelt cry for balance, holding fast to intercession for the lost while embracing the new things God is doing. Your request is deeply rooted in Scripture, and we stand with you in agreement, lifting these petitions before the throne of grace.

First, we rejoice in your recognition of God’s daily mercies and faithfulness, as Lamentations 3:23 declares: "They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." This truth anchors us in hope, even as we pray for the salvation of those still far from Christ. Your burden for your former spouse’s repentance and regeneration is a sacred one, aligned with Romans 10:1: "Brothers, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God is for Israel, that they may be saved." We join you in pleading for their full surrender to Jesus, that they may be nourished by the Word (2 Timothy 3:15) and transformed into Christ’s likeness. Yet we also affirm your wisdom in shifting your primary focus to the new works God is unfolding, as Isaiah 43:19 promises: "Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now! Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert."

The tension between past burdens and future callings is real, but Ecclesiastes 7:18 reminds us: "It is good that you should take hold of this; yes, also from that don’t withdraw your hand; for he who fears God will come out of them all." We pray for grace to intercede without being ensnared by the past, and to embrace the new without neglecting the lost. May the Lord open doors for the Gospel (Revelation 3:7-8) and empower you to run your race with endurance (Hebrews 12:1-2), laying aside every distraction that hinders your commission to make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20).

Let us pray together:

"Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your unchanging faithfulness and the new mercies You provide each day. We lift up this dear brother/sister before You, asking for supernatural grace to balance intercession for the lost with wholehearted pursuit of Your new works. Lord, we pray for the salvation of their former spouse and prodigy, soften their hearts, draw them to repentance, and regenerate their spirits by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Yet we also ask for clarity and courage to focus on the fresh things You are doing, trusting You to complete the work You’ve begun in them (Philippians 1:6).

Open doors for the Gospel to advance, both in their personal ministry and in the lives of those around them. Strengthen them to set things in order (Titus 1:5), finish their tasks (Revelation 3:2), and meet every need as they serve Your people (Titus 3:14). Guard their heart from distractions, temptations, and the schemes of the evil one (John 17:15). May they run their race with perseverance, forgetting what lies behind and pressing toward the upward call in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14). Fill them with wisdom to navigate this season (James 1:5), and let their life overflow with the fruit of the Spirit as they abide in You (John 15:5).

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who alone makes intercession for us (Romans 8:34) and opens doors no one can shut. Amen."

We encourage you to stand firm in the truth that God is both the God of the past and the future. Your prayers for the lost are never in vain (1 John 5:14-15), and your obedience to His new callings will bear fruit for His kingdom. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the pioneer of your faith, and trust Him to lead you into all He has prepared. "Forgetting the former things... I will do a new thing" (Isaiah 43:18-19). Press on, dear one, your labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Thank you for opening your heart and sharing this deeply layered prayer. We can feel the weight of holding what was, caring for someone distant, longing for their salvation, while also longing to step fully into the new things God is setting before you. That tension is real, and it often feels like a balancing act we’re not quite strong enough to manage.

When the Lord calls us forward, He doesn’t ask us to stop loving or to pretend the past never happened. He invites us to trust Him with it. Your ongoing intercession isn’t a distraction; it’s an act of faith. And yet, the call to focus on present duties, on gospel opportunities and the flock right in front of you, is equally holy. Holding both doesn’t require perfect emotional equilibrium, it requires abiding in Christ, who holds all things together.

A practical rhythm that might help: in your daily time with the Lord, set a brief, fixed moment where you specifically lift up the person you’re concerned for. Name them, entrust them to God’s mercy, and then consciously shift your attention to what He is doing today. Ask Him to open your eyes to the new doors He’s already cracking open, a conversation, a Bible study, a need you can meet. This simple boundary can train your heart to intercede without becoming entangled, freeing you to run the race that’s before you.

We join you in asking for protection from evil, for grace to complete every good work, and for open doors that no one can shut.

Father, thank You for fresh mercies every morning. Grant this dear one wisdom to hold past and present in steady hands. Give them courage to walk through new doors, energy to serve well, and the peace of knowing You are at work even when they cannot see it. Protect them, guide them, and make them a carrier of the gospel wherever they go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The freeness of divine grace is seen in this, that He does not call you to do something for Him, but He declares, "I will do everything for you." Your prayer reaches after new things and graces for duties, yet the most blessed new thing is that you yourself are made new in Christ Jesus, old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. That is the heart of the matter. You are concerned about a divided focus, about holding one thing without letting go of the other, and you rightly perceive that the former things must not always fill the gaze. The Lord Himself says, "Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing." This newness is not a mere shifting of your mental energies, but a creation of His sovereign hand. He who sitteth upon the throne saith, "Behold, I make all things new."

Your intercessions for those who are distant in spirit and relation, that they would know true repentance and regeneration, spring from a right instinct. It was the great self-sacrifice of God that is the great victory of divine grace, and you long for them to be trophies of that victory. Yet, the guilt of former things must not so bind your heart that you cannot look upon the present flock and the doors He is setting before you. The proof of His Messiahship is in His works and action today. Let your primary focus be on the present word of command, the immediate duty, the open door for heaven and nearness. To press toward the mark means forgetting what lies behind, and this includes even our longings when they become a distraction from running the race personally set before us. The former troubles are forgotten because He creates new heavens and a new earth in our experience.

There is a subtle peril when we fret and worry, trying to make things new ourselves. You speak of needing grace to shift focus, to set things in order, to strengthen what remains. This very exertion can become a burden if the foundation is not wholly upon grace. The gift of God is eternal life; it is not a prize for exertion but a gift for those without strength. Come, then, and receive freely. When your heart is established by grace, the duties of Titus, the setting of things in order, and the care for the flock flow not from a strained effort but from the overflow of the Spirit. What is wanted is not a repaired old nature, but the daily reality that you are a new creature in Christ Jesus, dead and buried with Him, and risen again. In that union, He will give grace and glory, He has riveted the two together. The grace for the daily duty and the glory of the coming consummation are one promise.

If you would run to win, lay aside not only the encumbrances of sin but also the diversions of an unwise sorrow or a retrograde fixation. Paul's prayer for Israel's salvation did not paralyze his apostolic mission. Take your matter to the Lord and say, "Lord, appear for me, for thou hast said, 'I make all things new.'" It is giving thanks always for all things, the dark things, the cutting things, and the things which disquiet our spirits, that proves we trust His hand. He leads you through a wilderness to fit you for the Promised Land. Leave your former things with Him who has blotted out your transgressions as a thick cloud, and do not drive the nails into His hands afresh by a perpetual, faithless grief. The opened door is before you; step through it in the power of the new creation, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The daily mercies of the Lord are indeed new every morning, and you do well to rest in that unfailing faithfulness. Yet I perceive a heart divided, pulled backward in prayer and forward in new obedience. The bonds you feel are not your enemy. There is a chain far mightier than any iron: it is the chain of love that intercedes for a soul still captive. Do not imagine that this prayer for your distant matrimonial is a drag upon your running. Remember Paul in prison. The foundations of that house were shaken; every one’s bands were loosed. The jailor fell down before his bound prisoner, crying out for mercy. Behold, then, a nature that can dissolve bonds even while bound. Your intercession for a soul entangled in sin is itself a bond for Christ’s sake, and such bonds have power to open doors and set captives free. Let the fear of God be to you a bond of iron that guards your own heart, but do not sever the cord of mercy.

As for the new things before you, the day is at the doors, and we know not but that even in our generation all may be accomplished. The delays are not long, yet the Lord grants us intervals. He leads you to the vestibule and sometimes does not yet open the door, and this also for your good. Be comforted, be perfected, be of the same mind, live in peace, and the God of love and peace shall be with you. There is no grinding necessity to choose between the former and the new; the grace of God is sufficient to take hold of both. Yet take heed that the lamp of the Spirit is not quenched. If we cast earthly cares and the dust of fluctuating matters upon it, the light goes out. Shut the doors of your eye and your ear against the violent blast of wickedness; close them up with the fear of God. Keep the mouth as a door, not open to reviling, but ready for prayer and the ministry of the word. For this is the proof of a generous teacher, to benefit learners not only by word, but also by prayer. So as you run that you may win, let your running be with the joy of one whose bonds are loosed and whose prison doors stand open. Rejoice in the Lord always.

What you are describing is a real and holy tension. To carry a genuine burden for souls who were once close to you, and at the same time to sense God calling you to fix your gaze forward on the new things He is doing, is not a contradiction. It is obedience to the whole counsel of God. Ecclesiastes tells us it is a gift of grace to take hold of one thing without letting go of the other. The grace to do both will not come from straining harder in the flesh but from understanding the race that is set before you.

Think of the runner in the games. Everyone runs, but only one receives the prize. Paul’s counsel is startling: run to win. That means running with a single-minded determination that refuses to carry any weight that slows the stride. There are many things in life that are lawful, that are even good, but they are not expedient for the runner who aims to obtain an imperishable crown. The danger is that we can load ourselves down with baggage, even sincere, tearful baggage, until we find ourselves trudging rather than racing. The call to lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely is not a call to stop caring. It is a call to reorder your cares so that nothing hinders you from pressing toward the goal.

Your prayer for the salvation and authentic repentance of those from your past is right. To pray for souls to be regenerated and nourished on the Word is never wasted breath. But those prayers, if we are not watchful, can become a sort of looking back that distracts from the primary task. The apostle said he forgot what lay behind and strained forward to what lay ahead. Forgetting does not mean the memories vanish; it means they lose their grip on your direction. You cannot run forward while staring backward.

The enemy would love to entangle you again in a yoke of bondage, making you feel that your spiritual standing depends on the outcome of those distant stories. That is a subtle return to a law-based mindset, as if you could work them into the kingdom by the sheer intensity of your anxiety. But the gospel is grace. Having begun in the Spirit, you will not be perfected by the anxious rehearsing of former days. Your own walk must be rooted in what Christ has already finished, not in what those you love have left undone.

Set your affection on things above, where Christ sits, not on the things of the earth. This includes not only material possessions but earthly attachments and regrets that are passing away. The new thing God declares, the open door He sets before you, deserves your freshest energy. You asked for grace to focus primarily on the new: the flock among you, the duties at hand, the open doors for the gospel. That is wisdom. Run in such a way, giving yourself wholly to teaching, to prayer meetings, to the immediate tasks of meeting pressing needs and setting things in order. That is showing yourself a pattern of good works with a sense of urgency, because the time is short.

So keep on praying for those souls. That is the one hand you must not let go of. But let your eyes be fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith, so that those prayers become a release into His capable hands rather than a weight that slows your stride. As you stare with admiration at His sufficiency, you will find the grace to run this lap of the race with patience, free from the encumbrances of a past you cannot rewrite, and supplied with everything you need to finish the course He has personally marked out for you now.
