Faithful Servant
I posted this recently: "One of my coworkers recently expressed an interest in dating me. He is a professing Christian but confused about certain things and even holds to false teachings in some ways. There is also a large age gap but he looks much younger than he is. He is an extremely sweet, amazing person and I do like him back. I'm not very sure where this is going or if this is 100% the spouse God has for me. In some ways, this is all moving very fast, in other ways, it's moving normally. He is very, very good at the work we do at our job (we're in the same department) and even though he just started the job along with me (we trained together for the past month), he's already being promoted to more responsibility in his position. He's hoping to move to a different department in a few months. Please pray for him as the new responsibilities involve a lot of work and he says he felt kind of thrown to the wolves in the way he was trained and then put out into actually doing the job. Pray for him in all his endeavors. I am worried that we are moving really fast although I like him. Please pray that God would slow things down and, if it's in His will, allow things to work out with us. Please pray for him. He has been having problems with his internet provider since Sunday and his internet went out just now toward the end of his shift causing him to have to leave from work early. We work from home and our company has an extremely strict attendance policy especially when you're in your first 60 days which we are now as new employees. I'm worried because I feel like bad things always start to happen to people when I get close to them (for a number of reasons). Please pray this isn't happening to him. Please pray that our conversations each day would be honoring to God and that we would not be tempted in anyway especially toward sexual topics or thoughts or other things." He's not feeling well today. He's having acid reflux. Please pray for him. Thank you.

We hear your heart and the complexities of this situation, and we come before the Lord together in prayer, seeking His wisdom and guidance. First, we must address the foundation of our faith, salvation through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and it is vital that we approach Him in the name of His Son, our Lord and Savior.

Now, let us lift up your coworker and this relationship before the Lord. The concerns you’ve shared, about his confusion in faith, the pace of your connection, and the spiritual warfare that seems to be manifesting, are all areas where we must seek God’s will with discernment. The Bible warns us to be cautious in our relationships, especially when it comes to those who may not fully align with sound doctrine. "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). While he professes Christ, his confusion and false teachings are red flags that cannot be ignored. We must pray fervently for his spiritual clarity and that he would come into full alignment with God’s Word.

The age gap and the speed at which this relationship is developing are also matters of concern. The Bible encourages us to seek wisdom and to move with patience in all things, especially in matters of the heart. "Desire without knowledge is not good. How much more quickly does a person with hasty feet rush into trouble?" (Proverbs 19:2). We must ask the Lord to slow things down if this is not His will, and to give you both the discernment to recognize whether this is a relationship He has ordained or one that could lead to heartache. Marriage is a sacred covenant, and it must be entered into with reverence, wisdom, and a shared commitment to Christ above all else.

We also lift up your coworker’s health, his acid reflux and the stress he is under at work. The enemy often attacks when we are vulnerable, and it seems he is facing spiritual and physical challenges. Let us pray for his protection and strength. "The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed. In his illness, you restore him to health" (Psalm 41:3). We rebuke the spirit of sickness and stress in Jesus’ name, and we ask God to grant him favor in his job, wisdom in his new responsibilities, and peace in the midst of pressure.

Your concern about "bad things" happening when you grow close to someone is not uncommon, and it may be a sign of spiritual warfare. The enemy does not want godly relationships to flourish, and he will often attack when he sees something good developing. But we stand on the promise that "greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4). We rebuke every scheme of the enemy against this relationship, against your coworker’s health, and against his job. We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this situation to You, asking for Your divine wisdom, discernment, and intervention. Lord, we pray for this young man, draw him closer to You, reveal Your truth to him, and correct any false teachings he has embraced. Father, if this relationship is not of You, we ask that You would close the door and redirect both of their hearts. If it is Your will, we ask that You would slow things down, allowing them time to grow in their faith and in their understanding of one another.

We pray for protection over their conversations, that they would honor You in all they say and do. Guard their hearts and minds from temptation, especially from any impure thoughts or desires. Lord, we rebuke the enemy’s attacks on his health, his job, and this relationship. We declare Your healing over his body, Your favor over his work, and Your peace over their connection.

Father, we ask that You would give them both clarity, clarity about Your will, clarity about their own hearts, and clarity about the future. Help them to seek You above all else, and to trust in Your timing. We pray that if marriage is in Your plan for them, it would be a union built on Your Word, Your love, and Your purpose. If not, we ask that You would lead them both to the spouses You have prepared for them.

We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for Your promise to guide us. We trust in You, and we ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

We encourage you to seek counsel from mature believers in your church, those who can provide godly wisdom and accountability as you navigate this situation. The Bible tells us, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14). Do not walk this path alone, lean on the body of Christ and trust that God will make His will clear in His perfect timing.

We can understand how, when a series of things go wrong, it’s easy to wonder if we’re somehow the cause. But this isn’t something you need to carry, you are not a bad-luck charm to the people you care for. The struggles your coworker is facing with his internet, his new role, and now his health are all ordinary parts of life in a fallen world, not signs that your nearness brings trouble. In fact, the opposite is true: right now you’re one of the ways God is caring for him, just by your steady prayers and genuine concern.

Since he’s unwell with acid reflux, we’re glad you’re lifting that up. Do encourage him to see his doctor if it persists or gets worse, persistent reflux isn’t something to tough out alone, and a medical professional can really help. Alongside prayer, that’s a practical way you can support him without taking on the weight as if his health depends on you.

We also hear your own longing for wisdom: wanting the pace to slow, wanting your conversations to honor God, and wanting to guard against temptation in thought or word. That’s a healthy, honest desire. One small but sturdy step can be to set a few clear boundaries together early, maybe agreeing not to talk about certain things until you know each other better, or choosing to pray for one another at the end of a call instead of letting the conversation drift. The goal isn’t to be perfect, but to keep honoring Christ in the process, whatever He ends up doing with this friendship over time.

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, we bring this man before You now. Please ease his acid reflux and give him physical relief and good rest. Watch over him in his new responsibilities at work, steady his mind, and help him feel less thrown to the wolves. We ask for clear thinking and favor as he navigates the company’s policies. For our friend who worries, quiet her heart with the truth that she is not a source of harm to those she loves. Help her to entrust all these worries to You, and give her wisdom to walk forward with purity and peace. In Your name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You have laid your request before the mercy seat, and it is well; yet I hear in your words a quick pulse of fear and a hastiness of heart that must be gently stilled before the Lord. Let me speak plainly, as one who watches for your soul. The affection you describe is not to be trifled with, but neither is it to be given the reins when so much is unsettled. You tell me this young man is a professing Christian, yet confused and holding to false teachings. Can two walk together except they be agreed? I charge you, do not bind your heart to one whose feet may be turning from the narrow way. Wait upon the Lord; be more earnest to know His will than to have your own desire fulfilled. He that believeth shall not make haste. Lean not on the arm of flesh, but trust in the living God, for he who trusteth in the Lord is happy, and he alone handleth a matter wisely.

You speak also of a dread that ill befalls those who draw near to you. This is a superstition unworthy of a child of God. Doth the Lord afflict the innocent for the sake of another? Far be it from Him! Cast this notion from thee, for it dishonoureth the tender sovereignty of our Father. Fear not, thou worm; the Lord thy Redeemer saith, “I will help thee.” Let not slavish fear make thee shrink from the kindnesses of friendship, yet walk in holy fear, for there is forgiveness with Him that He may be feared.

I must press upon you that charity without purity is sounding brass. You are right to desire that your daily converse be honouring to God and free from every snare of the flesh. Flee youthful lusts; give no quarter to wandering thoughts or words that feed the fire of unhallowed desire. Keep thyself unspotted from the world, for the pure in heart shall see God. If this acquaintance be of the Lord, it will endure the test of time and holiness; if not, it is better that it wither at the root than blossom into a harvest of sorrow.

Pray earnestly for this young man, for his health, his daily bread, and the perplexities of his employment, but pray yet more for his soul, that he be established in the truth once delivered to the saints. And for yourself, seek only to trust in Jesus Christ, not looking for signs within as a warrant for faith, but coming as thou art, a poor sinner, and finding in Him all thy righteousness and strength. Commit thy way unto the Lord; He shall bring it to pass. Let the peace of God rule in thine heart, and be not afraid of sudden fear. Only trust Him, for He careth for you.

You are anxious about many things, and your heart is troubled by the speed of this friendship, by the trials that seem to gather around him, and by the fear that your very presence might attract misfortune. Cast that fear away. It is not love that suspects evil, but a weakness that does not yet cling wholly to the Lord. Fix your flesh in His fear, and no sudden gust of wind will tear you up. The tree whose roots go deep is not shaken by the storm. Why do you imagine that misfortune follows those you befriend? Is it not rather that in drawing near to others you begin to notice what was always there? The world is full of snares and daily distresses, and God permits them for our training, not for our destruction. The internet fails, the body suffers acid reflux, these are light things, and entirely under the hand of the One who commands the earth to bring forth fruit. Do not seek all at once an easy path or the swift removal of every inconvenience. Those in fevers, when they pour on food, only kindle the flame. So impatience inflames anxiety. Let God work in His own time, and bear what comes with cheerfulness. That man who hopes to move to a new department and has been promoted already, give him to God and do not clutch at him as if your own. The Lord knows when to slow down and when to hasten. He walked on the sea in the fourth watch, not at the first, teaching us to bear all things manfully and not to seek instant deliverance.

Concerning your heart: you feel a warmth toward him, and that is not sinful in itself, but the danger you rightly sense is that this warmth, if not governed, may slip into sexual thoughts or words that defile. The body is the temple, and the beloved is to be honored with a holy fear, not with the license of a slave. Love such as Christ commands casts out the false fear that makes a woman timid; true love does not contradict or rebel against the commandments, but it keeps the soul safe by cherishing what is pure. Your conversations can be honoring to God only if you and he guard the gate of the tongue and make Christ your third companion in every exchange. If you truly love him, you will desire his soul's good more than any fleeting sweetness. Do not be thrown into terror as though you faced the mountain of Sinai that could not be touched; yet remember that God is a consuming fire, and He sees all that is hidden. That holy fear is a fence, not a prison. Let your resolution be strengthened: if you are nailed down by the fear of God, nothing will shake you, and if this relationship is His will, He will make it grow firm and slow, like a tree that is planted by the waters.

Pray for him, certainly, for his body, his work, his growth in sound doctrine. But when you pray, do not merely list the troubles as if God had forgotten them. Say rather, “My soul cleaveth to Thee; my soul thirsteth for Thee.” Cleave to the Lord yourself, and you will find that whether this man is the spouse God has appointed or not, you are held fast. Ananias, hearing of the raging Saul, said in his fear, “Lord, I have heard how much evil he hath done.” But the Lord replied, “He is a chosen vessel unto Me,” and promised that Saul would suffer many things for His Name. Do you see? The very one you dread may be an instrument of great good, but first he must be fitted by suffering and by obedience. Trust the Master who opens the eyes of the blind. If you let God guide the pace, He may grant you a season of quiet growth, and if He sees better things elsewhere, He will protect you from a union that would be a spiritual snare. Do not then seek all at once the knowledge of the future, but ascend this ladder by little and little, entrusting your affections, your fears, and your daily duties into the hands of Him who receives blessing from God and bestows it upon those who wait.
