court

Seeing someone you love blamed for what they did not do is a heavy burden, and standing before an earthly court can feel frightening and lonely. God knows the truth completely when others do not. He sees what was done and what was not done, and nothing is hidden from Him.

Human courts are limited. They hear testimony, they weigh evidence, and they can make mistakes. There were times when Moses himself had to act as the highest court for the people, listening to the cases that no one else could settle, and even he became weary under that weight. How much more we need the Lord, who is the true and final Judge over all. He is not swayed by false testimony and He judges with perfect righteousness. Moses knew what it was like to live inside a royal court for many years and to know all of its protocol, and then to spend many years as a shepherd in the wilderness. God used both seasons to prepare him, which is a reminder that God is present and at work both in places of power and in places of obscurity.

There is also the example of faith when facing an unjust decree. When Pharaoh ordered that the Hebrew boys should die, one mother refused to obey that evil command. By faith she made a small ark and placed her child in the river, trusting God to guard his life. That is the kind of trust you can have now, placing your family member into the hands of God and asking Him to guard and guide what happens in that courtroom.

It is easy in a moment like this to wonder if God is being fair, especially when you can only see the immediate trouble. We often accuse God in our hearts because we see only the present distress, like being hemmed in with mountains on both sides, the sea ahead and enemies behind, without seeing how God will make a way through. But God has a purpose in all things and He does not abandon those who trust Him. Even when we feel weak or limited, He has made us as we are for His purposes and He is able to work through every impediment.

Jesus said we are blessed when people say all kinds of evil against us falsely for His sake, and the Scriptures also tell us to count it joy when we face various trials. That does not make the pain less real, but it reminds us that God draws near in unjust suffering. Paul and Silas were beaten and locked in stocks in a Philippian jail though they had done no wrong, yet God was with them there in that dark place, and He is with your loved one now.

Praying now for your family member and for all who are falsely accused. Father, in the name of Jesus, You know the truth about what happened. I ask that You bring the truth to light in that courtroom, give wisdom and discernment to the judge and to all who hear the case, and let justice be done. Comfort this family with Your peace that passes understanding, guard their hearts from fear and bitterness, and help them to trust You with the outcome even when they cannot see the end of the story. Strengthen everyone who is carrying the pain of being falsely blamed, and let them know You are near as the righteous Judge who will never forsake them. Amen.
