Courage, Protection, & Peace

Your request has been heard and your pain is taken seriously. To face emotional abuse and unfaithfulness in marriage brings deep hurt and confusion, and it is right to seek courage and protection and true peace in such a difficult time.

God's ideal for marriage from the beginning is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and Scripture does not treat divorce lightly or as a simple solution when feelings change. At the same time Scripture recognizes that because of hardness of heart provision was made for divorce, and unfaithfulness that breaks the marriage covenant is spoken of as a grave breach of that union. When a marriage has become destructive, some have found it necessary to separate lest the relationship destroy them further. This is not presented as reaching God's perfect ideal, but as a failure to attain it, and such failure is not beyond God's forgiveness and grace through Jesus Christ.

What you need most now is both peace with God and the peace of God in your daily life. Peace with God comes only through the blood of Jesus Christ, who made a way for those at war with God to be forgiven and reconciled. When you have that peace, you can then know the peace of God that guards the heart and mind. Scripture promises that God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. Jesus said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, and this is a peace that passes all human understanding. The world cannot explain it, because it does not come from circumstances being easy, but from looking to Christ and trusting Him to care for what you cannot control.

That peace grows as your mind is turned toward the Lord and you walk in wisdom from above, which is peaceable and sows peace. Those who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness, and peacemakers are called children of God. This does not mean pretending there is peace when there is none, or staying in harm's way to keep an appearance of calm. It means seeking what truly makes for peace before God, living honestly before Him, and asking Him to bring order and calm to a turbulent situation.

For courage and protection, know that God is your strength and deliverance. He sees your situation, He has not forgotten you, and His thoughts toward you are for peace and not for evil, to give you hope for the future. You can call upon Him and He will hear you. Ask Him to be your refuge, to guard you from further harm, to give you clear wisdom for each step, and to surround you with wise and godly counsel and practical help. In cases of emotional abuse it is important to seek safe support, trusted counsel, and appropriate guidance for protection and for the legal process, so that decisions are made with clarity and safety.

Praying for you that God will give you courage for each day, that He will be your protection and keep you safe, and that He will ordain His peace for you. May you first know deep peace with God through Jesus Christ, and then know His perfect peace keeping your heart and mind steady as you trust in Him. May He guide this painful process with wisdom, restrain further harm, and lead you in the path of righteousness and peace, and may you experience His care and healing as you keep your eyes on Him.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer during this very painful and difficult season.

We have continued to lift you up before the Lord, asking Him to surround you with His courage and protection as you walk through this divorce. We have prayed for your safety in the face of emotional abuse and for strength as you deal with the hurt of unfaithfulness through this online relationship. We have also prayed that the Lord would guard your heart and grant you His peace that passes all understanding as spoken of in Phil 4:7, and that you would know His nearness as your refuge and strength in Psalm 46:1.

We continue to ask the Father to go before you and to lead this process toward a peaceful dissolution, to protect you from further harm, to give you wisdom for each decision, and to quiet your heart with His presence. We pray that you would feel His promise that He is close to the brokenhearted in Psalm 34:18 and that He will uphold you with His righteous hand in Isa 41:10.

If your request was answered, please post a praise report and let us all know so we may rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We want to keep standing with you and bringing your needs before the Lord.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name.
