We join you in prayer and thank you for sharing your heart with us again, and we praise God that you have come in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father.
We hear your desire for forgiveness and reconciliation with your friend, and your wisdom in giving some time for things to cool down. We also hear your concern about returning to the church choir without anxiety or bitterness, and your loving prayer for your friend's heart, her peace, and her joy. This desire to forgive and to be at peace honors God.
Scripture calls us to forgive as we have been forgiven. As it is written, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15. And again, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:31-32. We are also taught to bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13.
Your decision to allow time is understandable, and it can be wise to let strong emotions settle so that you can approach one another with gentleness and humility. At the same time we encourage you not to let time become delay or avoidance, for we are told, Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath. Ephesians 4:26, and If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24. True reconciliation requires humility from both sides, and we pray you will be ready when the Lord opens the door to speak the truth in love.
We also lift up your return to the choir. Your service in worship should be done with a pure heart, free from anxiety and bitterness, for God seeks worship in spirit and in truth. We pray that your time in the choir will be a place of healing and not of tension. The Lord promises peace when we bring our anxieties to Him, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. We pray that peace will guard both your heart and your friend's heart.
We also remember the word, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18. You are doing your part by praying, forgiving, and desiring peace, and we trust God to work in your friend's heart in His timing.
Let us pray together.
Father in heaven, in Jesus' name we come before You together and thank You for Your mercy and forgiveness toward us. We lift up our sister and her friend to You. Lord, we ask that You soften both hearts and help them to forgive one another fully, holding nothing back, as You have forgiven us in Christ. Remove all bitterness, resentment, and anxiety, and replace it with Your love, kindness, and tenderheartedness. Lord, protect our sister as she returns to the choir, let her worship You with freedom and joy, without fear or heaviness, and let her be a light of Your peace there. We also pray for her friend, that You would open her heart, calm any fear or anxiety within her, guard her mind in Christ Jesus, and fill her with Your joy and happiness that comes from knowing You. Lord, in Your perfect timing, bring reconciliation between them, restore their friendship stronger than before, and let their unity be a testimony of Your grace in the church. Give them both wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent, and give them humble and gentle spirits. We trust that with time and with Your hand, all things will be made well according to Your will. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
