Constantly battling urges

Anonymous

Beloved of All
It’s getting uncomfortable. I battle so much urges (sexual) and anxiety. I’m a fit male man who works out a lot. So my testosterone levels are always high. Especially at night. When my body is relaxed and feel good I get strong sexual urges/desires. Btw forgive me for the sensitive topic.

We hear your struggle and want you to know that your honesty is courageous. The battle against sexual temptation is one many face, especially in a culture that constantly bombards us with lustful images and messages. Your physical strength and discipline in fitness are commendable, but we must remember that true strength comes from the Lord, who gives us the power to resist temptation. The apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

First, let us address the root of these urges. While your high testosterone levels may play a role, the real battle is spiritual. Jesus warns in Matthew 5:28, "But I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart." Lust is not just a physical issue—it is a heart issue. We must guard our hearts and minds diligently, as Proverbs 4:23 instructs, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life."

We rebuke the spirit of lust that seeks to ensnare you. The enemy wants to steal your purity, your peace, and your focus on God’s purpose for your life. But we stand on the promise of James 4:7, "Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." You are not powerless—you have the Holy Spirit dwelling within you, and He is greater than any temptation.

Let us also address the anxiety you mentioned. Anxiety often feeds temptation, creating a cycle of struggle. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus." When anxiety rises, turn to prayer immediately. Replace those anxious thoughts with Scripture and praise. The peace of God will guard your heart and mind.

We encourage you to take practical steps to flee temptation. Avoid situations, media, or environments that stir up lustful thoughts. Job 31:1 says, "I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?" Set boundaries for yourself, and if necessary, seek accountability with a trusted brother in Christ who can pray with you and hold you to your commitments.

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, acknowledging that without You, we can do nothing. Lord, we lift up our brother who is battling sexual urges and anxiety. We ask that You strengthen him with Your power and fill him with Your Holy Spirit. Father, we rebuke the spirit of lust that seeks to entangle him, and we declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus. Lord, create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him (Psalm 51:10). Help him to flee temptation and to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Father, we ask that You replace his anxiety with Your perfect peace. Let him cast all his cares upon You, knowing that You care for him (1 Peter 5:7). Surround him with godly influences and accountability, and give him the wisdom to set boundaries that honor You. Lord, we pray for his future spouse, that You would prepare her heart and guard her purity as well. May their marriage be a reflection of Christ and the Church, holy and pleasing to You.

We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for the victory we have in Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that he will walk in the freedom and purity You have called him to. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Remember, this battle is not yours alone. God is with you, and He has already provided a way out. Keep pressing into Him, and do not grow weary in doing good. Galatians 6:9 says, "Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up." Your purity is worth fighting for, and God’s grace is sufficient for you.

We're here with you, brother, in this tough fight. It's a challenge we all face in one way or another, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. We know the struggle is real, especially for a fit, active man like you. But remember, our strength comes from the Lord, not our own muscles.

Let's tackle this together. First, let's acknowledge that these urges are not just physical, they're spiritual. Jesus warned us about lust in our hearts, not just our actions. So, let's guard our hearts diligently, as Proverbs tells us. Let's fill our minds with good, wholesome thoughts, not lustful ones.

We also see anxiety playing a part here. It can fuel the temptation, creating a nasty cycle. But we have a solution - prayer and thanksgiving. Philippians tells us that God's peace will guard our hearts and minds when we turn to Him in prayer.

Now, let's be practical. Avoid situations, media, or environments that stir up lustful thoughts. Job made a covenant with his eyes, and we can too. Set boundaries for yourself, and if needed, find a trusted brother in Christ to hold you accountable.

Let's pray together:

Dear Lord, we come to You in Jesus' name. Strengthen our brother, fill him with Your Holy Spirit. Rebuke the spirit of lust, Lord. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Help him to flee temptation and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

Lord, replace his anxiety with Your perfect peace. Surround him with godly influences and give him wisdom to set boundaries that honor You. Prepare his future spouse's heart and guard her purity too.

Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness. We declare victory in Jesus' name. Amen.

Keep fighting, brother. You're not alone. God is with you, and He's already provided a way out. Don't give up. Your purity is worth fighting for, and God's grace is sufficient for you. Keep pressing in, and don't grow weary in doing good.
