Humble Servant of All
I want to leave my church due to multiple concerns/problems. I have been struggling with this for a long time and now just really think leaving is the best thing. But, in the midst of struggling, I've continued to attend Sunday service and other events. But I'm considering not going this coming Sunday to give myself a break mentally from things within church that are causing deep problems in my mental health and walk as a Christian. But I'm scared that if I don't go, spiritual warfare that has been targeting me since I was a child is going to start attacking me harder. Please pray for me about this. Thank you.

We hear your heart and the deep struggle you are facing, and we want to come alongside you in prayer and encouragement. First, we must acknowledge that the spiritual warfare you describe is real, and the enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy our faith, peace, and joy in Christ. However, we must also remember that Jesus came so that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). The attacks you face are not a sign of God’s absence but often a sign of the enemy’s fear of your potential in Christ. We rebuke every scheme of the devil aimed at your mind, your faith, and your walk with the Lord. In the name of Jesus, we command every lying spirit to flee, for "the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).

Your concerns about leaving your church are valid, and we want to encourage you to seek the Lord’s wisdom and discernment in this matter. The church is meant to be a place of refuge, growth, and fellowship, but we also recognize that not every congregation aligns with God’s heart or His Word. If your current church is causing deep harm to your mental health and spiritual walk, it may be time to prayerfully consider whether this is the place where God wants you to remain. However, we urge you not to make this decision out of frustration, hurt, or fear alone. Seek the Lord’s guidance through prayer, Scripture, and godly counsel. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."

We also want to gently address the fear you expressed about stepping away, even temporarily. The enemy would love for you to believe that skipping one Sunday service will open the floodgates to spiritual attack, but this is a lie. Your faith is not measured by your attendance at a particular building but by your relationship with Jesus Christ. He is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). If you feel led to take a break for your mental and spiritual well-being, we encourage you to do so without guilt. Use that time to draw nearer to the Lord, to rest in His presence, and to seek His face. Remember, Jesus Himself often withdrew to lonely places to pray (Luke 5:16). He understands the need for rest and renewal.

That said, we must also caution you against isolating yourself entirely. The body of Christ is vital to our growth and protection. If your current church is not a safe or healthy place, we encourage you to seek out a biblical, Christ-centered church where you can be fed, encouraged, and held accountable. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, "Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." Do not let the enemy use your pain to cut you off from fellowship entirely.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister in Christ, lifting up their heart and their struggle to You. Lord, we ask that You would grant them Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). We rebuke every spirit of fear, anxiety, and oppression that has been targeting them, and we declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Lord, we ask that You would give them clarity and wisdom as they discern whether to stay in their current church or to seek a new fellowship. Guide their steps, Father, and lead them to a place where they can grow in You and be encouraged by fellow believers.

We pray for healing in their mind and spirit, Lord. If there are wounds from past hurts or ongoing struggles within the church, we ask that You would bind up their brokenness and restore their joy in You. Help them to see themselves as You see them—beloved, chosen, and redeemed by the blood of Jesus. Remind them that their worth and identity are found in You alone, not in the opinions or actions of others.

Father, we also ask that You would protect them from the lies of the enemy. If the devil seeks to use this season of struggle to draw them away from You, we declare that he will not succeed. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to stand firm on Your Word. Surround them with Your angels, encamp them in Your presence, and fill them with Your Holy Spirit. May they find rest in You, even as they seek Your will for their next steps.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would lead them to a church family that loves You and loves them well. If they are to leave their current church, prepare the way for them to find a fellowship where they can serve, grow, and thrive in their walk with You. Give them courage to step out in faith, and remind them that You are with them wherever they go (Joshua 1:9).

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the One who has overcome the world. Amen.

In the meantime, we encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, particularly in the Psalms, where you will find raw honesty about struggle, fear, and doubt, but also unwavering trust in the Lord’s faithfulness. Psalm 34:18-19 says, "The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." You are not alone in this battle, and the Lord is fighting for you. Keep your eyes on Him, and do not let the enemy rob you of the peace and joy that are yours in Christ. If you need further guidance or prayer, we are here for you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We're praying with you, dear friend. We understand that you're at a crossroads, and it's okay to feel uncertain and scared. Remember, Jesus is right there with you, and He's not surprised by any of this. He sees your heart, and He wants what's best for you.

First, let's address the fear you're feeling about taking a break from church. It's important to listen to your body and your heart. If you need a break to rest and heal, that's okay. Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray (Luke 5:16). He understands the need for rest and renewal. A Sunday off won't make you less of a Christian. Your faith is about your relationship with Jesus, not just attending services.

But let's also be wise. The enemy loves to isolate us when we're hurting. So, even if you take a break, try to connect with other believers in some way. Maybe that's a small group, a prayer meeting, or even just a phone call to a trusted friend.

Now, about leaving your church. We get it; it's a big decision. But remember, God wants you to have life abundantly (John 10:10). If your current church isn't a place of life and growth for you, it might be time to consider other options. But don't make this decision out of frustration or fear alone. Seek God's wisdom through prayer, Scripture, and godly counsel.

We're praying for you, that you would find peace, wisdom, and courage in this time. We're claiming Psalm 147:3 over you: "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." We're also praying that God would lead you to a church family where you can grow, serve, and thrive.

And hey, we're here for you. If you need someone to talk to or pray with, just let us know. You're not alone in this. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and trust that He's working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
