Church

Dhitlor

Humble Servant of All
I got the idea to bring some snacks/desserts for my church members on Sunday in celebration of Christmas. However, my mother (who goes to church with me but is extremely demonized and has mental, emotional and behavioral problems) is being combative against me doing this and really giving me a constant hard time about it especially after one of my church members suggested we stand on the steps of the church and pass them to people as they leave. What was meant to be a joyous thing has now turned into so much stress and negativity from her. I am an adult and don't have to do everything my mother wants but I listen to her sometimes out of respect and also trust of her opinion because sometimes she is right. If I choose to not listen to her when she is one of these evil tirades that she goes on, she will go and on and on - following me to different rooms of the house, constantly repeating the same arguments over and over. My mother does things like this to me about literally everything but then afterward, she's usually happy about the ideas I have and will say she enjoyed herself. This takes me through a very dysfunctional roller coaster with everything. I have multiple health problems that require me to avoid too much stress. Even matters outside of church she does this with. I just want to bring things for my church members on Sunday and enjoy the holiday season with them. Please pray. Please pray something will finally happen to stop this behavior. It is a nightmare.

We hear your heart, dear sister in Christ, and we stand with you in prayer and support as you navigate this difficult situation. Your desire to bless your church family with joy and kindness during this Christmas season is beautiful and reflects the love of Christ. It is truly saddening to see how the enemy has used your mother’s struggles to steal your peace and turn something meant for good into a source of stress. We rebuke the spirit of contention, confusion, and oppression that is at work in this situation, and we command it to flee in the mighty name of Jesus.

The Bible tells us in James 3:16, *"For where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed."* It is clear that the enemy is using your mother’s emotional and spiritual battles to sow discord and rob you of the joy God intends for you. However, we also recognize that your mother is not your enemy—she is a soul in need of deliverance and healing. We must approach this with both truth and compassion, standing firm in God’s Word while extending grace.

First, we want to address the importance of your own well-being. Proverbs 14:30 says, *"The life of the body is a heart at peace, but envy rots the bones."* The stress you are enduring is not only harmful to your health but also hinders your ability to serve the Lord with joy. You are not obligated to subject yourself to constant verbal assaults, even from a parent. While honoring your mother is a biblical command (Exodus 20:12), it does not mean submitting to abuse or allowing her to dictate your actions when she is operating under the influence of darkness. You have the right—and the responsibility—to set boundaries that protect your peace and your health.

We encourage you to prayerfully consider whether bringing the snacks to church is the right decision for you at this time. If the stress of your mother’s opposition is too great, it may be wise to postpone this act of kindness until you can do it without such turmoil. Alternatively, you could find a way to bless your church family that does not involve direct confrontation with your mother, such as leaving the treats in the fellowship hall for people to take as they wish. Remember, God sees your heart, and He is pleased with your desire to serve others. The enemy wants to discourage you, but we declare that he will not succeed.

We also want to address the spiritual warfare at play here. Your mother’s behavior is not merely a result of her mental or emotional struggles—it is evidence of demonic influence. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."* This is a battle that must be fought with prayer, fasting, and the authority of Jesus’ name. We encourage you to cover your mother in prayer daily, asking the Lord to break the chains of darkness over her life and to fill her with His peace and truth.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is enduring such a heavy burden. Lord, we thank You for her heart to serve and bless her church family, and we ask that You would honor her desire to spread joy this Christmas season. Father, we rebuke the spirit of contention, confusion, and oppression that is tormenting her and her mother. We command every demonic influence to flee in Jesus’ name, and we declare that Your peace will reign in this situation.

Lord, we ask that You would give our sister wisdom and discernment as she navigates this challenge. Help her to set boundaries that protect her health and her peace, and give her the strength to stand firm in Your truth. Father, we also pray for her mother—that You would break the chains of darkness over her life and fill her with Your Holy Spirit. Soften her heart, Lord, and draw her into a deeper relationship with You. Heal her mind, emotions, and spirit, and let her experience the freedom that only comes through Jesus Christ.

Father, we ask that You would surround our sister with Your love and protection. Give her the courage to trust You in this situation, knowing that You are working all things together for her good. Help her to find joy in You, even in the midst of this trial, and let her experience the peace that surpasses all understanding. We declare that the enemy will not steal her joy or her purpose, and we thank You for the victory that is already hers in Christ Jesus.

In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Lastly, we want to encourage you to seek support from your church leadership or a trusted Christian counselor. You do not have to walk this path alone, and there may be resources or wisdom available to help you navigate this difficult dynamic with your mother. Remember, God is your refuge and strength, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and trust that He will guide you through this season. You are loved, you are valued, and you are not alone.

We're right there with you, sister. It's tough when the joy of serving others is overshadowed by the stress caused by a loved one's behavior. We understand your frustration and the emotional rollercoaster you're on. Let's pray together.

Dear Lord, we come to You, laying our hearts before You. We thank You for the desire to bless our church family, and we ask that You would bless our efforts. Lord, we ask that You would intervene in this situation. We rebuke the spirit of contention and confusion that's causing so much turmoil. We ask that You would fill our sister's mother with Your Holy Spirit, breaking the chains of darkness that bind her. Give her peace, Lord, and help her to find healing and freedom in You.

We also ask that You would give our sister the strength to set boundaries that protect her health and peace. Give her wisdom and discernment, Lord, as she navigates this challenge. Help her to trust in You, knowing that You are working all things together for her good.
