Church, Family Intervene Mt 18:16-17 Convict Jn16:8 Hedge w/Thorns Ho 2:6 Avoids Evil Men 2 Tim 3:5 Inner Healing Isa 1:6 Ps 23:1-6, Focus Tit 3:14...

Your burdened and detailed prayers are heard, and your desire to see God work in a way that leads to real repentance is right and good. It is good to thank Him that He is still at work and will be faithful to complete what He has begun, as Philippians 1:6 teaches, and to keep asking with persistence as Jesus taught in Luke 18:1 and Mark 11:24.

What you are asking for, that God would hedge a way with thorns as in Hosea 2:6-7, that the Holy Spirit would convict as Jesus promised in John 16:8, and that the Word would do its work as a sword as Hebrews 4:12 says, is a way of asking God in mercy to block paths that lead to destruction. That is not a harsh prayer but a loving one. When God blocks a sinful way, He is preventing further harm and giving space for a person to come to senses, like the prodigal in Luke 15:17-20 who finally saw his sin against God and against others and was willing to take the lowest place in humility.

Scripture makes a clear distinction between sorrow and repentance. Godly sorrow works repentance, which always means a change, while the sorrow of the world brings death. This is what Paul explains in 2 Corinthians 7:9-11. Many people are sorry they were caught or sorry for consequences, but true repentance bears fruit in keeping with repentance as Matthew 3:8 and Acts 3:19 teach, and it turns from sin rather than using the grace of God as license for immorality, which Jude 1:4 warns against. God is not mocked, as Galatians 6:7 says, and His kindness is meant to lead us to repentance according to Romans 2:4, because He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance as 2 Peter 3:9 says, yet there remains wrath for the soul that continues in evil as Romans 2:9 warns.

Your desire for the church and family to be involved follows the pattern Jesus gave in Matthew 18:16-17. That process is not meant to shame or punish, but to restore. The first thought toward a brother or sister in sin should always be restoration, going gently and seeking to bring about a righting of what is wrong, with an eye on ourselves lest we also be tempted, as Galatians 6:1 says. It should be done gently but firmly, because sin is dangerous, and with the hope that the person will not turn away from fellowship but will flee evil desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart, as 2 Timothy 2:22 says. God has placed spiritually mature overseers in the church to help shepherd such matters with wisdom and care, and their involvement helps keep the process orderly, truthful, and loving. The goal is purity and power in the body, for leaven left alone spreads, and when the church is purified it knows the power of God more fully.

That is why your prayers for clarity and wisdom are so needed, as James 1:5, Colossians 1:9-10 and 4:12, and Philippians 1:9-11 teach, that love may abound with knowledge and discernment to choose what is excellent and walk worthy of the Lord without stumbling. Part of that wisdom is learning to avoid those who have a form of godliness but deny its power, as 2 Timothy 3:5 says, and to flee from sexual sin, which Jesus traces to the heart in Matthew 5:28 and which the commandment in Exodus 20:14 forbids, including all forms of seeking lovers outside the covenant of marriage. To confess such sin honestly before God is part of coming into the light.

You are right to hold fast to the biblical ethic of marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, where sexual union belongs, and to the truth that we must not be unequally yoked as 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, borrowing the picture from the law in Deuteronomy 22:10, and that two cannot walk together unless they are agreed as Amos 3:3 teaches. A shared vision to serve the Lord, such as supporting a calling to evangelism and mission, can only be lived out when both are walking in holiness. If God truly cleanses and makes holy, we must not call unclean what He has cleansed, as Peter learned in Acts 10:15 and Acts 15:7, and all Scripture is inspired and profitable as 2 Timothy 3:16 says. Yet that cleansing is shown by a truly changed life, demonstrating the patience of God as in 1 Timothy 1:15-16, but never presuming upon it.

Your concern for fear of God over fear of man is also biblical. The fear of man is a snare as Proverbs 29:25 says, while the fear of the Lord is to hate evil as Proverbs 8:13 says and is the beginning of wisdom as Proverbs 9:10 and Job 28:28 teach. Those who speak the truth in love must tremble at His word as Isaiah 66:2 says and fear Him who is able to judge, as Jesus taught in Matthew 10:28, rather than fearing people. That was the failure in the house of Eli in 1 Samuel 2:29-30 and 3:13-14, fulfilled in 1 Samuel 4:17-18, and it remains a warning to all families and shepherds today. Your sharp rebuke of sensuality in the family, as Titus 1:13 urges, comes from that same concern for holiness and freedom from deception as Matthew 24:4 warns.

Continue to pray for inner healing as Isaiah 1:6 and Psalm 23 describe, for the Lord to restore the soul, and for strength for present duties as Titus 3:14 says, and for grace to fast as Isaiah 58:6-12 teaches when God leads. Pray also for protection from temptation, lies, evil men and the evil one himself, as Matthew 6:13, John 17:15, Luke 11:4, Zephaniah 3:13, and 2 Timothy 3:13 teach. Remember your own need to take heed lest you fall as 1 Corinthians 10:12 says, to stand only by grace as Romans 11:20 says, trusting that God alone is able to keep you from stumbling as Jude 1:24 says and to make you stand as Romans 14:4 says, until we are made perfect with Him, to be absent from the body and present with the Lord which is far better as 2 Corinthians 5:8, Philippians 1:23, Hebrews 12:23 and Luke 23:43 teach.

Keep asking God to raise up messengers who will faithfully bring the Word, to do the work with love, reverence for His covenant, and zeal, and not with negligence as Jeremiah 48:10 warns, finishing what was promised with diligence as 2 Corinthians 8:11 says. Pray that if she repents she may escape the snare of the devil, being held captive to do his will, as 2 Timothy 2:25-26 says, and that others may learn the seriousness of sin as 1 Timothy 5:20 says, and that God will bring about a hope and a future as Jeremiah 29:11 promises, in His time and way. May He grant you increasing wisdom, protection, and steadfastness as you walk worthy of Him, to His glory.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer over this deeply personal and urgent matter. It is clear how much you love this person and how fervently you desire God’s intervention in her life, her family, and her church community. Your heart for repentance, restoration, and protection is evident, and we have continued to lift these very specific Scriptures and requests before the Lord on your behalf.

We are grateful that you shared how God has already begun to move—raising up messengers who are willing to bring His Word into this situation. That is a sign of His faithfulness, even when the outcome is not yet fully revealed. If God has answered any part of this prayer—whether through conviction, clarity, or a hedge of protection—we would be so encouraged to hear a praise report. Your testimony could strengthen others who are walking through similar battles.

If, however, the situation remains unresolved or even grows more challenging, please do not hesitate to post this as a new request. We are committed to standing with you in persistent prayer, trusting that God is working even when we cannot see it. His Word assures us that He is not slow in keeping His promises, but patient, not wanting anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9). We will continue to intercede for repentance, wisdom, inner healing, and the fear of the Lord to take root in every heart involved.

May the Lord bless you with His peace as you wait on Him. May He grant you fresh grace to trust His timing and His ways, knowing that He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus.
