We hear your heart’s desire to pursue a path of discipline, strength, and service through bodybuilding, aviation, and protective work overseas. These are ambitious goals that require dedication, sacrifice, and a clear sense of purpose. As we lift this before the Lord, we want to encourage you to seek His will in every step, ensuring that your pursuits align with His Word and bring glory to His name.

First, we must address the foundation of your journey. Have you surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? The Bible tells us, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). Without Christ, we are separated from God, and our efforts, no matter how disciplined, will lack eternal significance. If you have not yet placed your faith in Him, we urge you to confess your sins, repent, and trust in Jesus as the only way to salvation. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). Only in Christ can your steps be ordered by the Lord (Psalm 37:23).

Now, let us consider your goals through the lens of Scripture. Bodybuilding, in itself, is not sinful, God created our bodies, and we are called to honor Him with them. "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). However, we must guard against vanity, pride, or an unhealthy obsession with physical appearance. The apostle Paul warns, "For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come" (1 Timothy 4:8). Your training should be an act of stewardship, not self-worship.

Pursuing a pilot’s license and protective work can be honorable if done with integrity and a heart to serve others. The Bible commends those who use their skills for the good of others: "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men" (Colossians 3:23). However, we must also consider the potential dangers and moral compromises that may arise in overseas work, particularly in close protection. Will you be asked to engage in activities that conflict with biblical principles, such as violence without just cause, deception, or association with ungodly organizations? "Abstain from every form of evil" (1 Thessalonians 5:22). We must ensure that our work does not lead us into sin or place us in environments where our faith is compromised.

Additionally, we must address the reality of living overseas. The Bible calls us to be wise and discerning in all things. "Behold, I send you out as sheep among wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves" (Matthew 10:16). Living in a foreign country, especially while pursuing high-risk professions, requires prayerful consideration. Are you prepared for the spiritual battles that may come with being away from a Christian community? "Don’t forsake your assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhort one another, especially as you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:25). Isolation can weaken your faith, so we encourage you to seek fellowship with believers wherever you go.

We also want to gently challenge the timeline of your plans. Two years is a significant commitment, and while discipline is commendable, we must ensure that your goals do not become idols that distract you from God’s greater purpose for your life. "For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans for welfare, and not for evil, to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). Are you open to the Lord redirecting your steps if He has a different plan for you? His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), and His timing is perfect.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this brother who seeks to honor You through discipline, skill, and service. Lord, we ask that You would first draw him to Yourself if he does not yet know You as Savior and Lord. May he experience the life-transforming power of the gospel and walk in the freedom that only Christ can give.

Father, we pray for wisdom and discernment as he considers these goals. Order his steps according to Your will, and let every decision be made with a heart that seeks to glorify You. Guard him from pride, vanity, or any pursuit that would lead him away from Your truth. Give him the strength to train his body as a temple of the Holy Spirit and the discipline to develop his skills for Your purposes.

Lord, if it is Your will for him to pursue these paths overseas, we ask that You would open the right doors and close those that are not of You. Surround him with godly mentors, fellow believers, and opportunities to grow in faith. Protect him from spiritual isolation and the temptations that come with living in unfamiliar places. May his work be a testimony to Your grace and a means of serving others with integrity.

Father, we also ask that You would prepare his heart for whatever You have in store. If these plans are not aligned with Your perfect will, we pray that You would redirect him with clarity and peace. Help him to trust in Your timing and to rest in the knowledge that You hold his future.

We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone gives us access to You. May Your Holy Spirit guide and empower him to walk in a manner worthy of the calling he has received. Amen.

We'd encourage you to sit down with a mature Christian who knows you well and just unpack this from the ground up. What draws you to each piece? What are you hoping to build in yourself, and who are you hoping to serve? Conversations like that can anchor the "what" and the "why" before you pour years into the "how."

This isn't about doubting the dream. It's about making sure it's rooted in who God made you to be, not just in the image of a tough, capable protector. The desire to serve others in dangerous places is real, and God uses people like that. We're just saying, run it through the slower, humbler filters of wise counsel and honest self-assessment. It won't waste time; it will save you from chasing a path that looks strong on the outside but isn't truly yours.

Father, thank you for the intensity and the vision you've placed in this man. Give him clarity and patience as he examines each goal. Lead him to men and women who can speak honestly into this plan, people who know the physical, mental, and spiritual realities involved. Protect him from getting ahead of You. Shape his ambition into something that serves Your purposes, and guide his next step so clearly that he can't mistake it. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

What is this grand scheme of yours but a tangle of earthly ambitions, one pursuit heaped upon another as if a man could build a tower to heaven by his own strength? Bodybuilding, a pilot’s license, BUDS training, close protection, all overseas, all demanding, all promising a kind of self-forged glory. Yet I must ask you plainly: where in all this is the voice of God? Have you heard the Good Shepherd call you by name to this path, or is it the din of your own restless heart? The effectual calling of which Scripture speaks is not a general summons to worldly striving; it is personal, particular, unconquerable, and it always draws a soul to Christ, not to a curriculum of self-exaltation.

Consider that high calling of God in Christ Jesus, the calling that lifts the heart from the dust and sets it upon heavenly things, upon holiness, upon eternal realities. Is this your calling? A man may climb the mast of ambition, attain every skill, and yet find his soul tempest-tossed and far from the haven of peace. You speak of bodybuilding, yet the body perishes; of a pilot’s licence, yet you may soar above the clouds and be lost in eternal night; of BUDS and close protection, yet who shall keep your soul in the hour of judgment? The Lord Jesus calls labouring and heavy-laden souls to Himself alone, not to a roster of achievements. “Come unto Me,” He says, “and I will give you rest.”

I do not demean lawful vocations, our God is a God of the camp and the field, and personal service may be rendered in many stations. But that service must spring from a heart already at rest in Christ, a heart that has first heard the personal, effectual call and responded in obedient faith. Has that call come to you at conversion’s dawn? Do you know that the Shepherd has named you His own? If not, all your overseas ventures are but wandering from the fold. Seek first His righteousness, that your life may be a personal service to Him, that every strength you build, every skill you hone, may be laid at His feet and directed by His wisdom. Without this, your plan is a house built on sand, however sturdy the frame.

If you are indeed called by grace, then test these desires by a surrendered will. Are they born of a heavenly impulse, or of a thirst for adventure and self-vindication? The saint considers Christ, who endured the contradiction of sinners, and learns that the path of true honour is often paved with humility, not with the weapons of this world. Go to your knees, search the Scriptures, and wait until you can say with the Psalmist, “I am Thy servant.” Then, whether you stay or go, build muscle or lay it down, you will do all to the glory of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvellous light. Until then, I fear you chase shadows while the substance stands before you, arms outstretched, saying, “Look unto Me, and be ye saved.”

You have mapped out a grand course of bodily discipline and worldly skill: to sculpt your frame overseas, to take the heavens like a bird, to endure the harshest training of warriors, and then to stand as a shield for others. But I must ask you, to what port is this voyage truly bound? You have given much thought to the rigging of the ship and the strength of the oars, yet little to the Pilot who must guide it. For if a man crosses the whole ocean and then wrecks his vessel at the very mouth of the harbor, has he not squandered all his former labor? The wrestler who vanquishes every opponent only to be thrown by the last loses the crown. So it will be with your soul if, after all this striving, you have neglected the one thing that cannot be taken from you.

You speak of bodybuilding, of a pilot’s license, of close protection. These are not evil in themselves, but consider what manner of cargo you are taking on. The belly digests food and casts it out, yet what is bred within the heart defiles a man from the inside. Pride, love of glory, the thirst for recognition among men, these filths are not expelled by physical exertion; they accumulate like sand and salt water in the hold, weighing down the soul until it sinks with the very mariner who thought himself so skilled. Why are you so careful to master the air and the sea and the weapons of war, yet so careless to master the passions that make war within your own members?

Do not be like those who are consumed with curiosity about things remote while remaining ignorant of the earth beneath their feet. You would not, if someone bade you, descend into the deep to trace the bottom of the sea, yet you freely plunge into the unsearchable abyss of worldly ambition. The true vessel of safety is the divine Scripture, and the true Pilot is the Word of God. Without Him, you float on human reasonings, and in that boat there is no Pilot at all. Double danger: no vessel, and no guide.

If you would truly protect others, begin by guarding your own heart. Let the kiss of peace drive out arrogance and envy, so that you neither despise the lowly nor grudge the great. For we who partake of the one bread are united to Christ and to one another. That is the only close protection that endures beyond the grave. See to it that you finish as you begin: not a bright start exulting in strength, but a holy end, anchored in the tranquil haven where no enemy can harm the soul.

The drive you have is clear, and the goal is demanding. It will require rigorous training and a disciplined life. That kind of commitment has value. As Paul wrote, bodily training does have some profit. What you are pursuing will push your physical limits, and that ability to deny yourself and push through pain is rare. It is worth asking, though, for what prize you are running.

Many people pour everything into a career path, making great sacrifices and showing immense focus, only to find later that the pursuit itself left an emptiness no achievement could fill. The problem is not the discipline but the destination. The physical has a temporal shelf life; the body will fade, but the soul lives on eternally. When you look at your plans, ask yourself where God is in them. Have you sought His guidance, or have you fortified your strategy with your own ingenuity while leaving Him out of your calculations? The most crucial question is not whether you can earn these qualifications, but what the hope of your calling from Him truly is. If you knew the eternal riches He has prepared, it would give you a courage and strength that goes far beyond any tactical training.

There is no specific career that ranks as the highest calling. Whatever God has really called you to do is the highest call for your life. So if He has wired you for protection, strategy, and endurance, that is not something to feel guilty about. But a call involves a Master, and He is Lord. It means your life is not your own. When Jesus calls a person, He doesn't just bless a self-made list; He often upends it. He called Isaiah to weeping and consecration when the culture wanted a party. He called Paul from a career of religious violence to one of great suffering for the gospel, and then He had to encourage that same apostle when he was completely discouraged and thought he was finished.

If you are going to build a life, build it on the foundation that has eternal support. Seek His face about this plan. The training to communicate truth, even starting in humble places like teaching a child, can be a more intensive and lasting training ground than any physical boot camp. You cannot out-exercise a soul that is at war with itself, but a cheerful heart, at peace with God, does good like a medicine to your whole being. Lay these ambitions before Him. Let Him either confirm the destination or redirect the strategy. That is the only way to run in such a way that you will actually obtain the prize.
