Can you please pray for me?

Disciple of Prayer
I am going through a really hard time in my life. I moved cities for college a month ago. This week someone close to me passed away, and the man I love left me. I am struggling to find friends and community in my new area, and I feel like a have no one to confide in. The grief from losing a loved one, the pain from my breakup and the loneliness I’m experiencing feels unbearable. I feel so broken down and so completely alone. If anyone has the time and energy I would really appreciate it if you could pray for me to get through this, and to heal. Thank you, god bless.

We have read your request and we are lifting you up together in prayer during this very painful and lonely season. We hear how heavy this is, moving to a new city for college, grieving the death of someone close to you, going through the pain of a breakup, and feeling without friends or community to confide in. It is understandable to feel broken down and alone when so many losses come at once, and we want you to know you are not forgotten and you are not unseen by God.

The Lord draws especially near to those who are hurting. The psalmist says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3. We pray you will feel His nearness even in this loneliness. God invites you to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you 1 Peter 5:7. Jesus says Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28. We also cling to His promise Fear not, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10, and I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you Hebrews 13:5.

We want to gently speak to the pain of your breakup as well. We believe God designed romantic love to lead toward marriage, which is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that honors Him. What the world often calls dating we encourage you to view as courtship with the goal of discerning marriage to another Christian believer. If that relationship involved intimacy outside of marriage, scripture calls that fornication and it is outside God’s will and brings deeper heartbreak, so we encourage you to bring any such sin honestly before the Lord for His forgiveness and cleansing. If it did not, we still encourage you to see this loss through God’s purpose. He can use even this pain to heal you, to grow you, and in His time to prepare you for a godly spouse if it is His will for you to marry, a relationship built on purity, faith, and commitment rather than just emotion. Guard your heart and seek a future relationship that is centered on Christ and moving toward marriage.

In your loneliness, please do not walk through this alone. God sets the lonely in families Psalm 68:6, and His family is the church. We strongly encourage you to find a Bible believing local church near your college, to attend regularly, to join a small group or campus ministry, and to let mature believers know what you are carrying. Community will not come overnight, but God often provides comfort through His people, for the God of all comfort comforts us in all our affliction 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. If your grief feels unbearable, please also reach out to a trusted counselor, pastor, or campus support resource and let someone near you know how you are doing.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ, believing He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is through His name we pray and find healing and hope.

We now pray together for you.

Father in heaven, we lift this dear one up to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see every tear, every night of loneliness, the grief of losing a loved one and the sting of this breakup and the struggle of adjusting to a new city and college life. We ask You to wrap Your arms of comfort around her, to heal her broken heart and bind up her wounds, to give her rest for her soul and strength for each day. Lord, forgive any sin and wash her clean through the blood of Jesus, and help her to walk in purity and hope for the future. Lead her to a healthy biblical community, to godly friendships and mentors who will encourage her and point her to You. Replace her loneliness with Your presence, remind her she is never alone, and guide her steps as she grieves and heals. We ask You to turn this season of sorrow into a testimony of Your faithfulness and to give her peace that passes understanding as she trusts in Jesus. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We will continue to pray for you to get through this and to heal, and we encourage you to keep seeking the Lord daily through prayer and His Word. He is near, He cares deeply for you, and He will carry you through.

We were so grateful you reached out and shared so honestly. What you are carrying right now is a lot all at once, a new city and school, the loss of someone close to you, a painful breakup, and trying to find community where you don't yet know many people. It makes sense that you feel broken down and alone. Anyone would feel overwhelmed with that much grief and change in such a short time.

Please know you are not forgotten here. We are holding you in prayer and we want you to have some steady support close by as well as prayer from a distance.

One gentle step that often helps in a new place is to choose one consistent place to show up each week where you can be known a little at a time. That might be a campus ministry or local church gathering, a student support or counseling office on campus, or a small group connected to your school. You don't need to explain everything at once, just letting one trusted person there know you are grieving and feeling isolated can make it easier to not carry this alone. If the grief and loneliness continue to feel unbearable, it can also help to talk face to face with a counselor or pastor nearby alongside prayer.

Father, we lift our friend to You right now. You see her grief, her loneliness, and how tired she feels. Wrap her in Your nearness, give her comfort as she mourns, and heal her heart in Your time. Lead her to kind, safe community in this new city and give her strength for each day ahead. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

Your sorrow has been heard and we have carried it before the Lord in prayer, for you have written in a time of deep affliction. To be new in a city, to grieve one who has passed away, to feel the pain of love withdrawn, and to be without near friends to confide in, is indeed to be brought very low. It is no small thing to feel broken down and completely alone, and we do not make light of it.

Hear what the Lord says to such as you are, "Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God." It is His own command that His people should comfort one another, and it is our duty and privilege to seek that comfort for you now. You are not forgotten by Him who sees the tearful eye and the aching heart.

Our Savior Himself knows this loneliness. He was left alone just when most, as Man, He needed human sympathy, yet even in that darkness He could say, "The Father is with Me." Though friends may fail and the one you loved has left, the Eternal One who guides the marches of the stars is with you. Your main comfort in this labor and loneliness is that you are not alone, for God is with you.

There is healing for you in Christ. The Scripture says, "The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations," and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, but even His leaves, the most gentle touches of His grace, have healing virtue. They change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. You say, "I am sick at heart, may I dare to partake of it?" You may, for Christ is the great conduit Head from whom abundant streams of healing flow down to men below.

We have prayed for you, and we continue to pray, that God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ Himself would comfort your heart and establish you. We have asked the Lord to quicken you by His Word, for the Psalmist said, "This is my comfort in my affliction, for thy word hath quickened me." It is not the letter only, but the Spirit working through the Word that gives true consolation. Sometimes God does not give comfort by a distinct act alone, but He quickens us and so we obtain comfort. May He lift you up as you seek Him in much prayer and in His Word.

We have prayed that He would heal your grief and bind up what is broken, that He would forgive and cleanse through the blood of Christ alone, for salvation is in Him alone, and that He would draw near to you in this sevenfold midnight. We have prayed that He would provide for you a faithful community of believers in your new place, a true church family where you may be known and loved and where you may grow in every good word and work.

Time is a wonderful healer under God, and we pray that what now feels unbearable shall in His mercy become as waters that pass away, remembered but no longer overwhelming. Yet more than the lapse of time, may you know the present nearness of Christ, who was a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, and who now lives to comfort the fearful and to heal the sick at heart.

Cast yourself upon Him. Seek Him daily in prayer and in the Scriptures, and seek out the fellowship of His people near you, that you may not walk this road alone. We will keep you in prayer, asking God to give you comfort and constancy, to heal you, to sustain you through this trial, and to form your future according to His good and holy will.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, and cause His face to shine upon you in this affliction.
