Breakup

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for me as the sadness from a recent breakup has been hitting me a lot in the past few days for some reason. I broke up with ### because we were unequally yoked and the relationship was outside of God's will. Thank you.

We are praying with you and we commend you for your obedience in ending a relationship that was outside of God's will because you were unequally yoked. That is a very difficult and painful decision, and it is understandable that sadness would come in waves even when you know you did the right thing. Scripture tells us plainly, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship has righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. To walk away from such a relationship is not a failure but an act of faith and trust that God has something better and holier for you, and it honors Him.

We understand the heaviness you are feeling in these past few days. The Lord sees your broken heart and He is near to you in it. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. We encourage you to bring every wave of sadness to Him in prayer. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. He will use even this pain for your good as you continue to love and follow Him, for we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28.

We noticed your request mentions God and His will but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through His name that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is because of what Jesus did on the cross, dying for our sins and rising again, that we can come boldly to God in prayer, be forgiven, and be led by Him in every decision including whom we court with the purpose of marriage. We pray you are resting in faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, and we come to the Father together through Him for you now.

We pray together for you in Jesus name. Father, we lift up our dear brother or sister in Christ who is grieving this breakup. Thank You for giving them the courage and conviction to obey You and to step away from a relationship that was unequally yoked and outside Your will. Lord, we ask You to comfort them in this sadness, to heal their broken heart and bind up their wounds. Fill the lonely places with Your presence and Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Guard their heart and thoughts in Christ Jesus and help them to cast every care on You. Give them strength to not look back with regret but to trust in Your good plans, for You know the thoughts that You think toward them, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give them hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. Lead them in the days ahead, purify their heart, and prepare them for a godly marriage if it is Your will, a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman that honors You. Help them to pursue courtship only with a fellow believer with marriage as the goal, and to walk in purity. In Jesus name we ask, amen.

We encourage you to stay rooted in the Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers who can support you through this season. God honors obedience, even when it hurts, and He will not leave you without comfort or guidance. We believe He will redeem this time of sorrow and in His perfect timing, if He wills, He will bring a godly spouse into your life, a fellow believer with whom you can build a Christ centered marriage that glorifies Him. Keep seeking Him first and trust that His way is best.

Thank you for letting us know how you are doing. It makes sense that the sadness would come in waves like this, even when you know you made the obedient choice. Doing what is right before God and still feeling deep loss can happen at the same time, and one does not cancel out the other.

What you are feeling is a natural response to loss. Grief is not only about death, it can follow any significant loss including the end of a relationship and the loss of hopes and expectations that went with it. It is also very personal, no two people walk through it the same way, and it often does not move in a straight line. Some days feeling steadier and other days feeling the ache more strongly is common, and it does not mean you made the wrong decision.

In these first weeks it can help to give the grief room without rushing yourself to feel better. We have found it helps to have one or two trusted people who know what you chose and why, so you are not carrying the quiet moments alone. Staying close to community this week, whether that is worship, a small group, or a walk and honest conversation with a mature believer, can keep loneliness from settling in. If the sadness feels heavy for a long stretch or starts to affect sleep and daily life, please reach out to a pastor or counselor you trust so you have ongoing support.

Father, we lift our brother to You and thank You for his desire to follow You even when it costs him. We ask You to comfort him in this sadness, steady his heart, and remind him daily that You are near. Give him wisdom for the days ahead, healing in Your timing, and faithful friends to walk with him. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your sorrow is not a sign that you have done wrong, but often the very mark that you have done right. Obedience to Christ is not always followed at once by joy, and conscientiousness will for a time stand in the way of what the heart desires, yet the exactness of obedience is the essence of obedience. You have sought to know the Lord's will and to bow before it, saying, What would You have me to do, and that spirit, even before any action is taken, is deeply spiritual and sincere.

To break a tie which was unequally yoked and outside of God's revealed will is to acknowledge that as surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, so His will must be the rule of our lives. All things are under His regulation and have an appointed place in His plan, and nothing happens but what He permits or ordains. It is foolish for any of us to say we will go and will do as we please without asking God's consent, but it is wise and blessed to say, if the Lord wills, we shall do this or that. You have chosen the wiser part, to promote the will of God rather than to seek even an honest affection in a way that violates it.

Do not think that your sadness means you have missed His mercy. The work of the Spirit is to change the human will and make men willing in the day of God's power, working in them to will to do of His own good pleasure. He who has made you willing to obey will also keep you. The preservation and perseverance of His people rests upon His will, not upon the strength of our resolutions. He will be your keeper in this wilderness season, and He will speak sweet words of comfort into your ear.

It is written that the leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and they will heal all diseases of the soul. There is a healing power in Christ that keeps the soul in perpetual health. You will be ashamed to be idle and you will grow like Him as you study Him. Look much to Jesus now. Let His Word be your daily search, for we must not seek to discover God's will apart from His Word. There seek His mind concerning your future, your purity, and your walk.

I do pray for you that the Lord will turn your fear into great joy, for a holy fear mixed with great joy is one of the sweetest compounds we can bring to God's altar. May He give you courage to do what the Lord Jesus bids you in all things, wholehearted and complete, not going thus far and no further, but yielding all to the Captain of our salvation. May He heal your sadness, guard your heart from returning to what you have rightly left, and keep you tender and near to Christ. And if it be His will, may He in His own time and way provide that which is according to His will, a lifelong covenant as He ordained, and until then keep you in perfect peace as you rest in His sovereign and good will.

May the Lord Himself refresh you in the way of obedience, and let you find that while you walk in His way, you meet Him there.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
