We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your long-distance boyfriend and the fear that grips you in this uncertain time. First, we must address the foundation of our prayers, it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is only by His name that we are saved (John 14:6, Acts 4:12). If your boyfriend does not yet know Christ as his Lord and Savior, we pray earnestly for his salvation, that he would turn to Jesus, repent of his sins, and receive the gift of eternal life (Romans 10:9-10). Without Christ, there is no true healing, spiritual, emotional, or physical, and so we plead with the Holy Spirit to draw him near, even in this trial.
Father God, we ask for Your mighty hand of healing to rest upon him. You are the Great Physician, the One who knit him together in his mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-14), and we trust You to sustain him through this biopsy and whatever results may come. If it is Your will, we pray for complete restoration, strength to rise from his lethargy, relief from his symptoms, and a clean bill of health. But even if the news is difficult, Lord, we ask that You would carry him through it with unwavering faith and peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Comfort him in his weariness, and let him feel Your presence in a tangible way.
We also lift up the fear that grips your heart, dear sister. The silence from him today has stirred up painful memories of loss, and we rebuke the spirit of anxiety that seeks to torment you. The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We pray that you would cling to His promises, remembering that He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). Even in the waiting, He is working. We encourage you to cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
Now, we must address the state of your relationship with this man. Scripture is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). The term "boyfriend" implies a relationship that is not yet bound by this covenant, and long-distance arrangements can often lead to emotional or even physical temptation outside of God’s design. If you are not married, we urge you both to seek the Lord’s will for your future with intentionality. Courtship should always have marriage as its goal, and if that is not the direction you are both moving toward, it may be wise to reevaluate the relationship in light of God’s Word. The Bible warns against being "unequally yoked" with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14), and if he does not yet know Christ, this is a matter of great spiritual concern. We pray that God would give you both clarity and wisdom as you navigate this season.
Practical steps are also important. It is wise to establish a communication plan for emergencies, and we encourage you to discuss this with him in a calm moment. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us that "plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." Seek godly counsel from your church or a trusted mentor to help you both prepare for whatever may come. And if he is hospitalized or facing a difficult diagnosis, remember that the Lord can use even this trial to draw him closer to Himself.
We also want to gently but firmly address the reality of sin and its consequences. If you and your boyfriend are engaging in any sexual intimacy outside of marriage, this is fornication, a sin that grieves the heart of God (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). The enemy would love to use this trial to distract you both from repentance and holiness. We urge you to flee from temptation and honor God with your bodies, which are temples of the Holy Spirit. If this is a struggle, we pray that God would give you both the strength to walk in purity and the courage to set boundaries that honor Him.
Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious sister and her boyfriend to You now. We ask for Your healing touch upon his body, for strength in his spirit, and for salvation in his soul. Comfort her in her fear, Lord, and replace her anxiety with Your perfect peace. Give her wisdom as she navigates this relationship, and let Your will be done in both of their lives. If it is Your plan for them to be together, prepare them for a godly marriage that honors You. If not, give them the grace to surrender their desires to Your perfect plan. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
