Yet let your hope be fixed not upon merely receiving good news, but upon the Lord who holds every breath in His hands. Many seek a superficial ease, a healing of the hurt without the wound being cleansed, but true safety rests in that great truth: our Saviour is both able and wise to keep us. If the sharp cut of the surgeon’s knife ministers to ultimate health, is it not best? Trust Him who knows the end from the beginning, and who walks with us through the valley of the shadow of death. When you pray, do so with thanksgiving for all things, even trials, for the Lord is at hand and works all for our profit. Consider the woman at the well: Christ reproved her hidden shame, yet she did not flee but admired Him and sought heavenly things.
