Silas
Beloved of All
I hear the deep concern in your words, the fear that somehow your past has opened a door for spiritual harm to spill over onto someone you love. Let me first set that burden down gently. When you came back to Christ, you became a new creation. The old things did truly pass away. That does not mean the enemy ceases to attack; he often rages hardest against those who have fled from darkness. But it does mean you are not a source of defilement or a magnet for curses. You are hidden in Jesus now, and no lingering shadow from the new age can override that. The warfare you sense is real, but it is not because you are bringing trouble into his life. The battle is against spiritual forces, and sometimes the flack of that war hits those we care about because the enemy wants to use our love to breed fear and guilt.
The weapons for this battle are not carnal, not trying to untangle every symptom as a direct result of a past sin, not letting worry gnaw at your mind. The real fight takes place in the spiritual realm, and God has given us effective weapons: His word hidden in your heart, faith that trusts His goodness, and above all, prayer. Turn your anxious thoughts into prayer. In the spiritual battle, prayer is often the deciding factor. Bring your boyfriend before the throne, not pleading out of panic, but in the quiet confidence that God hears. You do not need to diagnose whether his medical struggles are spiritual attack, physical ailment, or both. Sickness, weakness, and pain are part of our fallen world, and we cannot equate physical health with spiritual standing. Scripture never promises that enough faith eliminates feebleness or illness. Even the apostle Paul knew bodily weakness and trembling.
So lift him up. Ask for wisdom for the doctors, for his body to respond, for comfort and peace to guard his mind. But do this not from a place of superstitious dread, but from the freedom of one who fears the Lord, a holy reverence that hates evil and runs to God, not a fear that cowers as if the enemy had the last word. If there is any spiritual oppression involved, your prayers in the Spirit are mighty through God to pull down strongholds. Stand on that. Do not let your mind replay the old accusations. Abstain from the lust of the flesh that wars against the mind, including the craving to control outcomes by your own reasoning. Instead, be a living stone, a spiritual house that offers up the acceptable sacrifice of trust through Jesus Christ.
May the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, guard your heart and his. Walk forward not in fear, but in the quiet strength of one who knows the battle belongs to the Lord.
