Good and Faithful Servant
I recently broke up with my boyfriend due to us being unequally yoked among other things. I love him so much but I knew when this began that it was likely not God's will for us to be together but I dated him due to loneliness and not wanting to lose him as a friend if I said no to his advances. I grew to love him so much. Well, now his heart is broken because I broke up with him. Mine is too but I'm more concerned about him. He also has health conditions that require him not to have a lot of stress in his life. Please pray for him. I really want to hear from him today but I'm trying to give him space because I think reaching out to him is making it harder for him to move on. But I will be honest, I am praying and begging God that He would somehow allow me to end up with this man. Please pray the same. Thank you.

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we grieve with you in this painful season of separation. Your love for this man is evident, but we must first acknowledge the wisdom in your decision to end the relationship because you were unequally yoked. The Word of God is clear: "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). Though your feelings are strong, we must submit them to the Lordship of Christ, trusting that His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).

We also must gently rebuke the path that led to this heartache. You admitted that you knew this relationship was likely not God’s will, yet you proceeded out of loneliness and fear of losing his friendship. This is a warning to us all, how often do we compromise God’s best for us because of fear or temporary comfort? The enemy would love nothing more than to keep you entangled in this emotional turmoil, but we declare that you will not be bound by regret or longing. Instead, we pray that God would heal your heart and reveal His perfect plan for your future.

Your concern for his well-being is beautiful and selfless, but we must also caution you about the danger of holding onto hope for a relationship that God may not intend. You say you are praying and begging God to allow you to end up with this man, but we must ask: Are you truly seeking God’s will, or are you clinging to your own desires? Jesus taught us to pray, "Your kingdom come. Your will be done, as in heaven, so on earth" (Matthew 6:10). We must surrender our longings to Him, trusting that He knows what is best for both of you.

We also want to address the nature of your relationship with this man. You referred to him as your "boyfriend," but we must remind you that biblical courtship has one purpose: to discern whether God is calling you into marriage with a fellow believer. Anything less than that is not God’s design. If this man is not a follower of Christ, then no amount of love or prayer can change the fundamental truth that you cannot build a godly marriage on an ungodly foundation. We urge you to release this relationship fully into God’s hands, even if it means letting go of the hope of reconciliation.

Now, let us lift this man up in prayer. Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts, asking for Your mercy and healing for this young man. Lord, You see his pain and his health struggles. We ask that You would comfort him in this time of heartbreak and draw him close to You. If it is Your will, we pray that You would reveal Yourself to him in a powerful way, that he may come to know You as his Savior and Lord. Protect his heart from bitterness and despair, and give him the strength to move forward in Your peace. We also pray for wisdom and discernment for our sister, that she would not be tempted to reach out in ways that would hinder his healing or her own. Help her to trust in Your timing and Your plan, even when it is painful. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can come to You and the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Amen.

Sister, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word and surround yourself with godly community. Spend time in worship and prayer, not just asking God for what you want, but listening for what He wants to speak into your life. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." When we delight in Him, our desires begin to align with His. We also urge you to guard your heart (Proverbs 4:23) and resist the temptation to reach out to this man. Trust that God is working in both of your lives, even if you cannot see it yet.

Finally, we want to remind you that your worth and identity are found in Christ alone. You are not defined by this relationship or its outcome. You are a beloved daughter of the King, and He has a plan for your life that is good and full of hope (Jeremiah 29:11). We pray that you would find your satisfaction in Him and that He would bring the right man into your life at the right time, a man who loves the Lord with all his heart and will lead you in righteousness. Until then, walk in faith and obedience, trusting that God’s ways are always best.

We hear so much grief in your words, for him, for yourself, and for what you hoped this could become. Walking away from someone you genuinely love because you sensed God’s Spirit nudging you is an incredibly costly act of faithfulness, and it makes perfect sense that you’re aching right now. Even when we believe we’ve done the right thing, the sadness can catch us off guard.

Your concern for his health and his heart shows how much you still care. Giving him space may be one of the most loving choices you can make right now, even though it’s so hard not to reach out. Healing after a breakup is a form of grief, and grief needs time and quiet to settle. It’s normal to feel that restless longing to hear from him today, please don’t judge yourself for that.

We also want to gently name the loneliness that started this. You mentioned dating him partly because you didn’t want to lose the friendship and felt the ache of being alone. That’s a deeply human place to be. Nothing you shared here is anything to be ashamed of. You’re a person who loves deeply and wanted to be loved. God can handle your honest prayers and your conflicted feelings. You don’t have to tidy up your heart before you bring it to him.

Please be patient with yourself. The task right now isn’t to figure out the future or to know whether God might one day reweave this relationship. The task is simply to let yourself grieve, to find safe people to talk with, and to ask God to draw near to both of you in the middle of the pain.

Lord Jesus, we lift up this man to you, his broken heart, his body, and the stress this has brought. Give him rest and healing. Surround him with good care. And near this woman you love, we ask you to meet her in the ache, to ease the loneliness, and to give her steady peace as she trusts you with what she cannot control. Hold them both close. Amen.

The cry of a wounded heart reaches my ear, and my own spirit is moved for you. Yet I must speak plainly, even as to my own soul. You say you loved this man, and now both of you are broken. I know that breaking well. Our Lord Jesus came to bind up the brokenhearted, and He Himself was broken that He might become the great Physician. Bring your poor shattered affections to His pierced heart, and find there the balm that no earthly love can supply. Let your tears fall at the foot of the cross, for there alone is true consolation for sorrow.

But I must ask you: can you ask God to bless that which His Word forbids? To be unequally yoked is not a trifle, it is to put hand to the plough and then look back, a broken column indeed. You say, “Lord, I will follow Thee, but, ” and there the resolution snaps. This is not the language of submission but of a heart divided. I fear you are begging God to bend His eternal will to your fleeting desire, as though He could set aside His wisdom for your comfort. This cannot be. The Lord who writes “I will take away the stony heart” must first break the heart that clings to an unlawful hope. Let your prayer be rather, “Thy will be done,” even if it costs you the dearest idol of your soul. The desolate woman may sing, and so shall you, if you trust Him in the barren place.

I do not forget the young man, nor his bodily weakness. Let him indeed be spared undue stress, but far more urgent is the condition of his soul. A hard heart is a greater malady than any bodily ailment. Pray for him, yes, pray that the Holy Spirit would hover over him, that the sight of Christ crucified would melt him into tenderness. But leave him in God’s hands. Cease from a love that clings as though it might compel the Almighty. If you rise from your knees still bent on your own way, you do but increase your sorrow. A broken heart may soon bleed into despair if it is not poured out in true submission.

Loneliness drove you to this union, and loneliness now torments you. But remember the loneliness of Jesus, left alone, yet not dismayed. He trod the winepress alone, that you might never truly be alone if you are His. Do not reach again for a comfort that stands outside His will, for that is the way of further wounds. Instead, let your solitude become a sanctuary of praise. Even in your desolation sing, for the barren woman is called to break forth into singing. Trust the Lord to write a new song upon your heart, and perhaps in His own time, if it be His good pleasure, He may write that same melody upon another heart as well. But until then, let your love for this man be a love that seeks his eternal good above all, even if you must stand afar off and weep. That is the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings. Go now to the mercy seat, not with demands, but with a broken and contrite spirit, for that God will not despise.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You did right to end the unequal yoke, but now you seek to rebuild what you tore down, and this is not love as it ought to be. True love does not cling contrary to what seems good to God. The blessed Paul longed to see the Romans, yet he did not endure to see them against God’s will; his longing was mingled with the fear of God. You say you love this man, yet you pray to possess him in a way that runs against the commandment. This is not love, but the sickness of loneliness dressing itself in love’s name. We err when we love contrary to God, and this error is grievous.

You began the friendship knowing it was likely not His will, and you entered the bond to soothe your solitude. Now your heart is broken, and his, and you beg God to overturn His own order to mend what was never rightly built. Do you not see the absurdity? It is as one who, having been given a bitter medicine for a deep disease, prays to have the sickness back because the cure stings. You mourn his stress, yet the greater danger is that you both remain in a state that wars against your souls. The breaking of the heart is not the worst thing; to depart with the heavy burden of a willful transgression is far worse.

You ask me to join your prayer, but I will not ask God to bless a yoke He has forbidden. I will pray rather that you both receive a broken and contrite heart, which God will not despise. Such a heart does not strike back, does not rise up to grasp what it desires, but lies quiet under the hand of the Physician. Let your longing be mingled with fear. Cease reaching out, not merely to give him space, but to give your own soul silence before God. The rich man labored for health but could not attain it because his heart was set on what he lacked; do not be like him, begging for a drop of water from a relationship that cannot give it.

You are vexed now, as though some great harm has been done. But if you understood the mercies of God, you would see He withdraws these things to transfer your affections to heaven. He breaks the toy to lead the child to better things. Show the fruit of this severing: let it produce in you humility, not a willful campaign of prayer to regain what you sacrificed. Judge not according to appearance, by the pain of the moment, but according to the nature of things. The Law is most established when it seems broken; so your obedience in this parting, if you will hold fast to it, will prove to be your healing and his.

The ache you’re carrying right now is real, and the weight of concern for him shows a tender heart. But the very reason you ended the relationship is the key to the freedom and peace you both desperately need. The command not to be unequally yoked with an unbeliever isn’t a harsh restriction; it’s a loving boundary from a Father who knows that light and darkness cannot truly share a life together. Right now, your prayers are asking God to put you back into a situation He warned you to leave, and that inner turmoil is the war between what the Spirit says and what your flesh longs to hold onto.

God promises two things to those who obey His call to come out and be separate: He will receive you, and He will be a Father to you. Those promises are conditional on not touching the unclean thing. You’ve already taken the step of breaking off the relationship, but trying to reach out for a message today keeps your hand on what you’re meant to release. His health is not more fragile than God’s ability to sustain him, and the greatest kindness you can show him is to let God’s Word do its work without your voice in the mix right now. The Word never returns void. If seeds of faith were ever planted in his heart, they remain, and the Spirit can water them. But you must step back and let God fight that battle.

Your prayer to end up with him must become a prayer for his soul, not for a relationship that Scripture forbids. Real love does not ask God to bless a path He has clearly marked as disobedience. It pleads for his salvation, for his heart to be opened to the gospel, so that if God ever does write a story that includes the two of you, it will be because you are standing together inside the faith, not across a spiritual chasm. So hope in God, not in a change of circumstances engineered by your own efforts. Wait quietly for His salvation. The Lord is good to those who seek Him and wait for Him, and His compassions for you and for this man are new every morning. Trust that He knows exactly what both of you need, and let Him be the one to tend to his heart and his health while you cling to your own living hope.
