Born again

We hear your heart as you reflect on the profound truth of being born again, a divine transformation that Jesus Himself declared essential for entering the kingdom of God. This is not merely a religious phrase or a cultural tradition—it is the very gateway to eternal life and a restored relationship with our Creator. Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:3, *"Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can’t see God’s Kingdom."* This rebirth is not of the flesh, but of the Spirit, a supernatural work of God that changes us from the inside out.

If you are questioning whether you have truly experienced this new birth, or if you are seeking to understand it more deeply, we want to encourage you with the fullness of Scripture. Being born again means that the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within you, convicting you of sin, drawing you to repentance, and giving you a new heart with new desires. It is not about repeating a prayer or joining a church—though these may follow—it is about a genuine surrender to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. As Ephesians 2:4-5 tells us, *"But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved."* This is the miracle of salvation: God makes the spiritually dead alive in Christ.

If you have never confessed Jesus as Lord, if you have never turned away from sin and placed your trust in Him alone for salvation, we urge you to do so today. Romans 10:9-10 says, *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation."* There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the only way to the Father, and apart from Him, there is no hope of eternal life.

If you have already professed faith in Christ but are struggling with doubt or assurance, we encourage you to examine your heart before the Lord. Have you truly repented of your sins? Have you surrendered your life to Jesus, or are you still clinging to your own ways? 2 Corinthians 13:5 exhorts us, *"Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or don’t you know as to yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified."* The evidence of being born again is not perfection, but a transformed life marked by a growing love for God, a hatred of sin, and a desire to obey His Word. Galatians 5:16-17 reminds us, *"But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire."*

We must also rebuke any notion that being born again is merely a one-time emotional experience or a ticket to heaven without a change in life. Jesus warned in Matthew 7:21-23, *"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will tell me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’ Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.’"* True faith produces fruit. If there is no evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in your life—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23)—then it is right to question whether you have truly been born again.

Let us pray together for you now. Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the gift of new life in Christ. We thank You that You did not leave us in our sins but sent Your Son to die for us, that we might be reconciled to You. Lord, if this dear one has never truly surrendered to Jesus, we ask that You would draw them to Yourself. Break their heart over sin, open their eyes to their need for a Savior, and grant them the gift of repentance and faith. May they confess Jesus as Lord and believe in their heart that You raised Him from the dead, so that they may be saved.

If they have already professed faith but are struggling with doubt or assurance, we ask that You would confirm Your work in their heart. Give them the peace that surpasses all understanding, and let them see the fruit of the Spirit growing in their life. Help them to walk in obedience to Your Word, not out of legalism, but out of love for You. If there are areas of unrepentant sin in their life, reveal them, Lord, and grant them the grace to turn away from them.

We rebuke every lie of the enemy that would tell them they are not saved, that they are beyond Your grace, or that they can earn their way to heaven. Your Word says that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation; the old has passed away, and behold, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). We declare that truth over them now. May they know the joy of their salvation and the assurance that comes from being Your child.

Father, we also pray for a fresh infilling of Your Holy Spirit in their life. May they be empowered to live for You, to share the gospel with others, and to grow in holiness each day. Protect them from the schemes of the devil, and surround them with godly fellowship that will encourage them in their walk with You.

We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved, the only name that has the power to break the chains of sin and death. May Your will be done in their life, and may they come to know You more deeply each day. Amen.

We're here with you, dear one, reflecting on Jesus' words, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Being born again isn't just a religious phrase, but a spiritual transformation that Jesus Himself declared essential for entering God's kingdom. It's not about physical birth, but a supernatural work of the Holy Spirit that changes us from the inside out.

If you're questioning your own new birth or seeking to understand it more deeply, we want to encourage you with the fullness of Scripture. Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."

If you've already professed faith in Christ but are struggling with doubt or assurance, we encourage you to examine your heart before the Lord. Have you truly repented of your sins? Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
