Silas
Humble Servant
Your prayer for a healthy baby and for the healing of your diabetes moves my heart deeply. I join you in bringing these needs before the Lord, trusting in His tender care. We see in Scripture that Jesus went about healing every sickness and every disease, and Matthew tells us this was a fulfillment of Isaiah’s words: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” The suffering of Christ reaches not only to the forgiveness of sins but also to the mending of our bodies. That gives us a solid place to stand in hope.
At the same time, I must be honest with you about something I have learned over many years. Healing is real, and God does heal. But not everyone is healed in the same way or on the same timetable. We look at the ministry of Jesus and notice that He healed instantly at times, yet at other times His work was gradual. One blind man received his sight only after a second touch from the Lord, first seeing men like trees walking, then clearly. That gradual process was still a divine healing. Even within our own bodies, God has established processes of repair and restoration that are just as much from His hand as a sudden miracle.
I have seen people pray earnestly for healing and receive it at once, and I have seen others whose prayers seemed to go unanswered. Like Paul with his thorn in the flesh, they prayed repeatedly and yet were not delivered. We cannot always understand why. But it would be wrong to say that a lack of healing always points to some hidden sin or a deficiency of faith. That kind of thinking only adds a burden to the one who is already suffering. We should never stand as Job’s comforters, insisting on reasons we do not know.
What we do know is that the Lord’s eye is upon you and upon your child. Remember how Mary, in the final weeks of her pregnancy, was required to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem by a decree of Caesar. From any human perspective, that journey was harsh and unwise. Yet behind the decree, God was at work, moving all things to fulfill ancient prophecies and bring His Son into the world in just the right place. He is able to orchestrate details, including the position of a placenta and the management of a health condition, in ways that serve His good purposes.
There is also a connection between our innermost being and our physical health. The apostle John expressed a beautiful wish for a friend: that he would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. That is not a guarantee, but it does remind us that peace with God and a soul rooted in His promises can bring strength. As you carry this little one, rest in the words of the prophet Malachi: “The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings.” Jesus is that Day Spring, the dawn of a new day, and He brings healing of many kinds, sometimes of the body, sometimes of the mind or emotions, and sometimes a deep healing of the spirit that sustains us even when the physical struggle remains.
I am praying that the Lord will protect your baby and grant you a healthy pregnancy. I ask Him to touch your body and regulate what needs to be regulated, and if it pleases Him, to remove the diabetes entirely. Whether He works instantly, gradually through the means of medicine and wise choices, or in some other way, every kind of healing that comes from His hand is divine. May He give you a sense of His presence, that tangible touch of His peace, and the assurance that He is with you in this season. Trust in His love, and know that you and your child are held by the One who formed you both.
