We hear your heart and we join with you in prayer, for you have expressed a deep desire to be used by God and to see your life changed beginning even tonight and tomorrow. We understand that feeling of wanting to be usable for the Lord rather than remaining unfamiliar or unfruitful, and we thank God that He has placed that desire within you.
We want to gently clarify what it means to be saved and to be usable. Being saved is not pictured as simply being more useful, but as being redeemed from sin and death and made a new creation in Christ. It is by grace you are saved, not by your abilities or your past, but by faith in Jesus Christ alone. For it is written, Ephesians 2:8-9 for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast. And Ephesians 2:10 says we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them. Your worth is not measured by how others treat you or by how dominant the world may seem, but by the price Christ paid for you. Psalm 139:14 says I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your wonderful deeds are wonderful. My soul knows that very well. And 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
We also hear your struggle with feeling dominated by those who do not know the Lord and who have not heard the truth, and with feeling neglected by those in higher positions in the church. It is painful when leaders seem distant, but we encourage you not to lose heart. The Lord sees you even when others overlook you. Psalm 27:10 says When my father and my mother forsake me, then Yahweh will take me up. And Isaiah 41:10 says Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. We encourage you to extend grace to those leaders, to seek humble conversation with them if possible, and to remember that our ultimate shepherd is Christ Himself. At the same time, do not be conformed to the pattern of this world. Romans 12:2 says Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Though it may feel that Christians are being dominated, greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world as 1 John 4:4 teaches, and Jesus Himself said in Matthew 16:18 on this rock I will build my assembly, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.
You prayed that your abilities would be restored and that your past with heaven might be useful to save you and others from the gates of hell. We lovingly remind you that it is not your abilities or your past that saves, but Jesus alone. If anyone desires to be a vessel usable for God, he must first be cleansed and surrendered to Christ. 2 Timothy 2:21 says If anyone therefore purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the master, prepared for every good work. God does want to use you, and He will equip you as you walk faithfully with Him. Philippians 1:6 says being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
We noticed you spoke of the Lord and the gospel and heaven, but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ directly, and we want to lovingly emphasize that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to confess Him as Lord.
We now pray together for you.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this dear one who longs to be used by You and to see a new beginning starting tonight and tomorrow. Lord, we ask that You would reveal Your great love and the true worth they have in Christ, healing the wounds of feeling neglected and unseen. Restore to them confidence in Your calling and renew their mind and heart. Cleanse them and make them a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for Your purposes. Strengthen their abilities as You will, not for their own glory but for Yours, and use their testimony to draw others out of darkness into Your marvelous light. Help them to forgive those who have seemed to neglect them and to find their security in You alone. Guard them from discouragement when the world seems dominant, and remind them that Your church will prevail and that You are with them always. We ask that You would transform their life day by day and keep them close to Jesus, for it is in His name alone we are saved and have hope against the gates of hell. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.
