Behind me

Dhitlor

Beloved Servant
Please pray for God to totally put certain things and people that came into my life in the past few months (or rather that I allowed in) out of it. The last few months had so much pain and negativity and worldly people that could have been avoided if I had not been rebellious in certain ways. Thank you.

We hear your honest confession and we thank you for humbling yourself before the Lord about the rebellion and the worldly influences you allowed in over these past few months. It takes courage to admit that pain and negativity came through doors you opened yourself, but God honors a contrite heart. We are reminded that rebellion is serious in God's eyes, for 1 Samuel 15:23 tells us rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, yet His mercy is greater still when we turn back to Him. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

We want to encourage you that God does not want you to live chained to what is behind you. He calls us to turn away from friendship with the world and from companions who pull us away from Him. Don’t be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals. 1 Corinthians 15:33 and James 4:4 reminds us that friendship with the world is hostility toward God. You were right to recognize that those worldly people and things brought pain, because we are called not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Romans 12:2 The good news is that when we are in Christ, the past does not have to define us. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 The Lord Himself says Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19

We also want to gently address what you may have left unsaid. If any of those relationships you allowed in involved romantic or sexual intimacy outside of marriage, scripture calls that fornication and it is sin before God. We say this not to condemn you but to call you to complete repentance so you can be fully cleansed and restored. God designed intimacy to be within the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and any courtship should be with the goal of godly marriage to another believer in Christ. We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus. We want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 It is by believing in Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, that we are forgiven and made new. We encourage you to call upon His name directly as you leave these things behind.

We join our faith with yours and we pray together. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for this dear one who has humbled themselves and confessed rebellion. We ask You to forgive and cleanse according to Your promise, create in them a clean heart and renew a right spirit within them. Psalm 51:10 We ask You to totally put behind them the things and people from these past months that brought pain and worldliness, to break every unhealthy soul tie and to remove every influence that does not honor You. Help them to forget the things which are behind and stretch forward to the things which are before, pressing on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 Give them wisdom to walk in obedience, to trust in Yahweh with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding, and to acknowledge You in all their ways so You will make their paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 Surround them with godly fellowship and guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

Thank you for sharing this so honestly. We hear the weariness in your words after these past few months, and also the clarity you have now about wanting a different direction. Owning that some of the pain came from choices you made takes humility, and God honors that honesty.

What you are describing sounds like more than just feeling sorry about what happened. Real turning around is a change of mind that starts to show up in new steps forward, not just regret that fades when the pressure lifts. You are already moving that way by asking God to help you put this season behind you.

One practical way we have seen people walk this out is to make the separation concrete and supported. It can help to name specifically which relationships, places or habits need distance, and then put clear boundaries in place, like removing contact information, changing routines that led back to those circles, and asking one trusted mature believer to know what you are doing and check in with you weekly. Distance alone is hard to keep without something good to move toward, so staying close to healthy community matters too.

We are praying for you as you take those next steps.

Father, we bring our friend to You in Jesus name. Thank You for Your mercy that meets honest hearts. Give wisdom for each boundary, strength to keep it, and peace as You lead forward into what is good and healing. Amen.

It is a hopeful sign when the soul begins to hate the very things it once allowed and to mourn the rebellion which opened the door to them. That sorrow which makes you weep and abhor your past course because of the love of Christ is the right repentance, and it is not drawn up from the depths of your own heart as water from a well, but is worked in you by the Holy Spirit through belief of the truth as it is in Jesus.

You confess that the last few months have brought pain and negativity through worldly company, and that your own rebellion made room for it. Take heed that your repentance be not that poor and short lived kind which turns from sin for a time and then goes back to it with greater gusto. True repentance is a hatred of sin and a turning from it and a determination in the strength of God to forsake it. It will yield works meet for repentance. It will be practical and it will last, for repentance is a continual lifelong act. It is also perfectly consistent with faith, indeed inseparable from it. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart go together. Wherever there is real sorrow for sin and an honest determination by God's grace to cease from it, that repentance has been produced by the Spirit of God and it is the sure and infallible token that remission is yours, for Christ has joined repentance and remission together.

Do not place hope in pain and suffering themselves to purify you, for there is nothing in suffering that by its own natural operation will tend to cleansing. If there were years of pain they could not cleanse from sin. The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanses from all sin all who truly repent and believe in Him. To hate sin because it slew Christ, to wash in that fountain, this is healing. The least thing about Christ has healing virtue in it, and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

Let us pray for you. O Lord our Father, look upon this penitent one who confesses rebellion and grieves over worldly influences that have been allowed entrance. Work in this heart that repentance unto life which you alone can give. Wash thoroughly from iniquity and cleanse from sin. If washing will not do, use blood, use anything, but cleanse from sin. Blot these transgressions from Your book of remembrance and blot them also from the memory and affections of Your child. Cast not away from Your presence, take not Your Holy Spirit away, but restore unto this soul the joy of Your salvation. Put far from this life those persons and things which draw away from holiness, and preserve from all evil. Keep this one from the pestilence that walks in darkness, from deceitful errors and sins, and give grace to walk in newness of life, not returning to folly. Let faith and repentance be found together, that Christ alone may reign in the heart, and that from this day there may be a complete change of mind with regard to sin and a steadfast cleaving to Jesus by whom all that believe are justified from all things. We ask this in the name of Jesus, who is our only balm in Gilead and our healing at Calvary. Amen.

Cling to Him and to Him alone, and repentance must come into your soul and abide there. Believe the gospel, turn from every known sin, and seek to live as the holy God would have you live. He who has begun this good work will keep you, for He has promised to put His fear in the heart of His people that they shall not depart from Him.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honesty in bringing this before God is a good and hopeful sign. You have seen clearly that the pain of these past months came not only from others but from your own choices in allowing what was worldly and harmful to have a place, and to see this is the beginning of healing.

God is the righteous Judge, yet He is also longsuffering and patient, and His patience is meant to lead us to repentance. He does not sweep us away at once, but grants us space and time so that we may put off what is past and turn to Him. There is not a day free from sin for any of us, and if He called us to account without mercy none of us would stand. That you feel sorrow now is not to condemn you, but to draw you back.

There is a sorrow that is of God, and it works repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret. Worldly sorrow clings to the loss or the pain itself, but godly sorrow grieves for the sin and the rebellion that opened the door to it, and it gladly turns away. Do not be afraid that your fall is beyond remedy. While we must take warning not to fall willingly, those who have fallen are not left without hope, for God receives again those who return to Him with a true change of heart. The wound is healed not by delighting in what harmed you or by making light of it, but by being genuinely pained by it and willing to be cut off from it, for that very pain becomes a cure that braces the soul and lifts the mind toward Him.

So I pray for you now that God in His mercy will do what you have asked according to His wisdom, removing from your life those influences and entanglements that have brought negativity and drawing you away from Him, and giving you strength to close the door where you once opened it. I pray He will fill you with that godly sorrow which brings joy, wash away what is past through repentance, and help you to cultivate a careful hearing of His word, with fortitude and a true contempt for worldly things, so that you may not only be freed from what harmed you but be established in what is good. May He guard your heart, keep you from returning to those same paths, and lead you in a steady way forward in Christ, where there is forgiveness, cleansing, and new life.
