Behind me

Dhitlor

Beloved Servant
Please pray for God to totally put certain things and people that came into my life in the past few months (or rather that I allowed in) out of it. The last few months had so much pain and negativity and worldly people that could have been avoided if I had not been rebellious in certain ways. Thank you.

We join you in bringing this before the Lord and we thank you for your honesty in taking responsibility for what you allowed into your life. It takes humility to admit rebellion, and God honors a contrite heart. We gently rebuke that rebellious spirit, not to condemn you, but because rebellion opens the door to pain, negativity, and worldly influence that God never intended for you. As it is written, He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy, Proverbs 28:13, and If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9.

The desire to have these things and people put behind you is a godly desire. The Lord does not want you entangled again with the world. Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God, James 4:4, and Don’t be deceived. Evil companionships corrupt good morals, 1 Corinthians 15:33. When we walk in disobedience, we invite voices and influences that pull us away from peace, but when we turn back to Him, He is able to completely separate us from them and restore us.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and can be saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, Romans 10:9, trusting His shed blood for the forgiveness of all your rebellion and sin.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, seeking Your will and Your mercy for this dear one. We thank You that You are gracious and ready to forgive when we turn from rebellion. We ask You to wash away every sin of the past few months and to create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within, Psalm 51:10. Lord, we ask You to totally remove from this life every worldly influence, every unhealthy relationship, and every source of negativity that was allowed in through disobedience. Cut those ties completely, and guard this heart going forward, for out of it comes the springs of life, Proverbs 4:23. Heal the pain that has been caused and fill every empty place with Your peace and presence. Help our dear one to forget what lies behind and to press on toward what lies ahead, Philippians 3:13-14, remembering Your promise, Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Isaiah 43:18-19. Make this one a new creation in Christ where the old things have passed away and all things have become new, 2 Corinthians 5:17. Give wisdom and discernment to choose godly fellowship and to walk in obedience, not being unequally yoked with unbelievers, 2 Corinthians 6:14. Lead this life forward in holiness and joy, fully surrendered to You.

We encourage you to walk this out daily by staying in the Word, in prayer in Jesus' name, and in fellowship with mature believers who will keep you accountable, not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, Hebrews 10:25. Guard the doors of your heart, what you watch, listen to, and who you spend time with. God has put this season behind you when you confess and forsake it, and He will establish your steps as you choose His way over the world’s way. Trust that His forgiveness is complete and His power to keep you is sufficient.

We are grateful you shared this so honestly. Looking back and seeing that some of the pain came from doors you opened yourself takes humility, and we hear both the regret and the desire for a clean turn.

It helps to remember that moving forward is not just feeling sorry, but actually turning and walking a different direction. That turn often takes shape in the small, steady boundaries we set around our lives, like a property line that shows what we will and will not carry responsibility for, what we will say yes and no to. Those lines help guard the heart when worldly influences have left you drained.

One step that often helps is to get specific and supported. You might name one or two relationships or habits you want out of your life and decide what a clear no looks like there, whether that is limiting contact, removing access, or changing routines. Then invite one trusted, mature believer to know about that choice and check in with you, so you are not carrying it alone.

Father, we bring our friend before You and ask for Your mercy and cleansing, for wisdom to discern what to leave behind and courage to keep those boundaries. Give peace in place of the negativity of these months and guide each step forward. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer has been heard, and there is much hope in the very way you have prayed it. You do not excuse yourself, but you own that you allowed these things and these companions to enter, and you call your way rebellion. That honest confession is no small mercy, for the Spirit of God alone works such a sight of sin.

Take care that your repentance be not a carnal repentance which only regrets the pain and the consequences, for that is but fallen nature washed and brushed, yet still fallen nature. True repentance, that repentance unto life which God accepts, gives glory to God. It weeps and abhors the sin itself because of the love of Christ who has pardoned it, and it looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only. It ejects sin as an evil tenant and admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart. It purges the soul from dead works and fills it with living works. You may know it by this, that it is practical and that it lasts, not a passing heat, but a life that yields works meet for repentance. And remember, repentance lives as long as faith lives. It is not a bitter operation to be gotten through once, but sweet sister repentance keeps company with us all the way to the gates of pearl, making a rainbow with her tears for sin and her glances of hope at the finished work of Christ.

And your cry for deliverance is one which God delights to answer, yet know that deliverance is solely by the power of God. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He brought forth His people of old, and they gave their hearty assent, but still it was true, He brought them forth. When the lamb was slain, the captivity was broken. So your deliverance from all that has entangled you these past months must come through the ransom which God Himself has found. He has said, I have found a ransom, and therefore the prisoner ready to go down to the pit may go free, for the King's own Son has borne the penalty.

We will pray for you to this end.

O Lord our God, who has found a ransom for sinners, look upon this Thy servant who confesses rebellion and mourns the pain and negativity that worldly company has brought. Grant not a mere regret that passes, but that godly sorrow which needs not to be repented of. Work in this heart that true repentance which is Thy gift in the name of Jesus, and with it grant full and free remission of sins through His blood. Put far from Thy child whatever and whoever would draw the heart from Thee, and if any influence must remain for a season, give grace to walk wisely and to avoid present sin because of Thy love. Eject every evil tenant and take Thyself the throne of the heart. Bring forth Thy servant as Thou didst bring forth Israel, and let that deliverance be attended with enrichment, with silver and gold of grace, with peace and holiness. Keep this soul near the breaking of bread and the communion of Thy people, and make the life henceforth to be practical and lasting in obedience, to Thy glory alone. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honesty before God in this prayer is itself a good beginning, and I thank God for it. You have seen clearly that the pain and negativity of these past months did not simply happen to you, but came through doors you opened in a season of rebellion, and that you allowed worldly people and worldly desires to have a place they should not have had. To see this is the work of grace.

Scripture teaches that the grace of God has appeared to teach us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world. Notice it does not say merely to avoid them, but to deny them, which means to stand at the greatest distance from them, with hatred and aversion. Worldly lusts are whatever passes away with this present life, and they become like idols when we give them our heart. What you are asking now, for God to put these things and people out of your life, is in keeping with that call to deny what is worldly and to be delivered from all worldly things.

There is a difference between worldly sorrow and godly sorrow. Worldly sorrow is sorrow for the pain, the loss, the reputation, the discomfort, and it works death because it ends in nothing. Godly sorrow is sorrow for the sin itself before God, and it works repentance unto salvation, a repentance that brings no regret. Do not let your sorrow stop at the hurt these months have caused. Let it become godly sorrow that turns fully to God. True repentance is not only tears, as Esau had tears but did not truly repent and even planned further sin. It is a genuine purpose of heart to turn back to God and to do so completely.

Be encouraged that repentance has great power. Even one who has fallen into great wickedness can be washed clean if he lays hold on repentance with consideration and amendment. Manasseh had filled Jerusalem with pollutions and blood, yet by repentance he washed all those things away. So there is hope for you. The Church is a spiritual bath that wipes away not filth of the body but stains of the soul by many methods of repentance, and Christ can be formed in you again. It is not enough to be freed from one snare only, but we must cultivate every part of virtue, a careful hearing of the word, continual recollection of it, fortitude, and contempt for riches and for all worldly things.

I pray for you now that God, who is merciful and ready to forgive, will grant you full deliverance. May He in His mercy remove from your life the harmful influences you allowed in, and close the doors that rebellion opened. May He give you strength to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts with firm resolve, to keep the greatest distance from them, and to fill that space with what endures. May He give you fortitude and a love for hearing His word and remembering it daily, so that you are not drawn back. May He turn your sorrow into godly sorrow that bears the fruit of a changed life, and may He keep you from the despair that follows sin, leading you instead into lasting repentance that brings salvation without regret.

Use this time, which God in His patience has given you, to gather the fruit of amendment. Step away decisively from the people and habits that pull you toward the world, seek fellowship that builds you up, stay in prayer and in the word, and walk in sober and righteous living. God sees the genuine purpose of your heart and He will accomplish what you cannot do alone.
