Bad Dream

I have been praying for you after reading about your dream and the pain you woke up with. To be attacked in a dream, especially on your feet, and then to wake with your stomach hurting and feeling movement inside is very unsettling, and it is understandable that you feel shaken.

The Bible makes a distinction between the kind of sudden fear that comes upon us and the reverential awe we are called to have toward God. Sudden fear, distress that comes like a whirlwind in the night, can overwhelm us, but Scripture encourages us not to be overcome by it. The true fear that God desires is not a phobia or dread, but a deep respect and awe for who He is, His greatness and power and holiness, a desire to love what He loves and to turn away from what He hates. That reverence is described as the beginning and the very sum of real knowledge and wisdom. When we grow in that reverence through quietly meditating on the Lord, we find confidence, because the Lord Himself becomes our confidence and keeps our feet from being caught.

Your dream about a spider attacking your feet may have left you feeling vulnerable, but you can rest in the promise that God watches over you and will keep your foot from being taken. Jesus has authority in every realm, over sickness and over evil spiritual powers, and those powers tremble before Him. He has not despised the affliction of the afflicted, but when the afflicted cries out He hears. The prophet Isaiah said of Him that He bore our infirmities and carried our sorrows, and that truth is shown in how Jesus healed the sick and set people free.

For your stomach pain and the strange sensation of movement, I am asking the Lord to bring you peace and healing and to calm your body. God cares about your physical suffering and He hears your cry. At the same time, our inner region often feels deep emotion and distress very strongly, and anxiety from a frightening dream can affect the body. If the pain or movement continues, please also take practical care of yourself and seek medical help, so that any physical cause can be checked. Even faithful servants in Scripture dealt with ongoing stomach troubles and prayed for healing without it meaning they had failed or sinned. God sometimes heals immediately and sometimes walks with us through a longer process, but in either case He remains near.

I encourage you to turn your heart toward the Lord today in simple trust. Tell Him honestly about your fear, ask Him to fill you with His peace, and ask Him to help you grow in that reverent awe of Him which brings wisdom and rest. You can say, Lord Jesus, I look to You as my Savior. I give You my fear from this dream and the pain in my body. Cover me with Your presence, guard my mind as I sleep and as I wake, heal what hurts, and let me rest in the knowledge that my life is in Your hands. Though I walk through dark valleys I will not fear evil, for You are with me.

May the Lord comfort you, quiet your heart, and let you know His care. There is no lack for those who reverence Him, and He will take care of you as you keep your trust in Him.
