Asking the Lord's help

You have asked for many things, and it is right to pour out every care before the Lord, for He is faithful and compassionate. Yet consider the order of gifts the apostle sets before us: prophecy, teaching, healings, tongues. These are good, but the more excellent way is love. Do not then measure God’s answer by the number of troubles removed, but by whether your soul clings to Him who is love itself. When you pray for breakthroughs and protection, seek first that your own heart be rooted in that charity which “beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” Without this, even if mountains were moved and every conflict resolved, you would be nothing.

You ask the Lord to convict and confront many. That is a fearful thing to request unless your own conscience is first examined. For as it happened to the Pharisee who spoke truth about the publican yet was condemned, so anyone who rehearses the faults of others without trembling for his own state invites judgment. I do not say this to wound you, but to heal. You mentioned you spoke to one about another, and even mentioned it to a third. Such words, even if true, kindle a fire that only love can quench. Have you been a minister of reconciliation, or of report? Christ came to make peace, and He has put into us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, before you ask God to resolve every other conflict, be the first to be reconciled to your brother in secret, and let your tongue be cured of any gossiping woman’s disease.

For the sick, the suffering, the persecuted, and those in war, pray without ceasing. Yet do not imagine that God’s power is limited to healings and outward deliverances. The greater gift is that He became our High Priest to make reconciliation for sins. What does it profit if a body is made whole but the soul remains at enmity with God? Pray for the salvation of and and all the unsaved, that they may be turned from death to life. That is the true miracle. Pray also for your own weakness at work and in preparing sermons: not that the labor be removed, but that you may learn to lean entirely on the Master. When you found help with the first sermon and thanked Him, you tasted that the power is more than the healing. Continue in that dependence, and do not despair when you find preparation difficult. The very toil may be the means of grace, like the ten strokes that finally bring the tree down.

I am fully persuaded that such eager desire to hear and to serve will not fail of its effect. But let patience have her perfect work. Many who seemed insensible at ten discourses afterwards brought forth abundant fruit. So also with these conflicts and longings: the answer may come not all at once, but through many hidden touches of the Spirit. Therefore, commit every name and every need into His hands, and then be still. For He who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think works not according to our schedule but according to the riches of His mercy. Let your chief request be that you may love Him more, and that love will order all your other prayers aright. May the earth be filled with His glory, beginning in your own heart. Amen.

The sheer weight of all you’ve laid out reveals a heart that truly cares, for your own walk, for strained and fractured relationships, for the ministry, for the suffering, and for those wandering from the truth. I want to encourage you to take a deep breath and remember where all that weight is meant to land. The cry for wisdom threads through so much of what you’ve written, and that’s no accident. Scripture tells us that wisdom is the principal thing; with all our getting, we are to get understanding. And the beauty is that wisdom is not a cold, distant code we hunt down, but a voice crying out in the open, inviting us to come and feast at the table she has prepared. In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, so when we ask for wisdom we are really asking for more of Him, for His mind, His gentle order, His clear sight in the fog.

Many of the requests you listed swirl into a knot of conflicts, relationship breakdowns, and deep need for conviction and healing. The wisdom that descends from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and willing to yield. That is not the wisdom of this world, which breeds envy and strife and leads to nothing. So when you plead for the Lord to confront evil and convict hearts, you are actually asking for His own wisdom to break in, wisdom that hates evil and yet makes a way for true reconciliation. Keep asking for that, and trust that His wisdom will preserve you and those you love, even when the path looks tangled. That same wisdom gives life to those who have it, far beyond what merely human strategy can accomplish.

You also asked repeatedly for anointing: on your sermons, on the prayer gatherings, on the outreaches, on your work and meetings. Think of the craftsmen building the tabernacle, Scripture says the Lord filled them with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, and all manner of workmanship for the sacred service. That is what you need. Not just skill, but the Spirit’s own enablement to handle every delicate piece of embroidery in these relationships and ministries. Ask with confidence for that anointing, because wisdom does not just give knowledge; it gives the practical art of doing what pleases the Lord. When you feel weak in sermon preparation or overwhelmed by meetings, remember that the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge delights to take over and lead you.

The things that keep getting deleted, the persecuted believers, the unsaved, the children suffering abuse, you are right to lay them before the throne. God has not forgotten them, and your persistent prayer is part of how He moves. Do not let the sheer volume convince you that you must untangle it all tonight. Wisdom calls you to bow your ear and regard discretion. The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; He can surely order these broken pieces. Your part is to fear Him, that is the starting place, and then walk step by step in the light He gives. As you do, you’ll find the wisdom from above will bear its fruit: purity instead of sensuality, peace instead of confusion.

So let me encourage you: in every one of these situations, whether it involves those you named, the church issue, the exams, or your own struggle, seek wisdom as your truest wealth. It is better than rubies, and all the things you desire cannot compare. When you ask for miracles, know that the God who embedded wisdom in the very fabric of creation is the same God who can rebuild shattered hearts and reverse what seems hopeless. The poor wise man who delivered the city was soon forgotten, but his wisdom was stronger than strength. You may feel small and forgotten in some of these battles, but the quiet, consistent pleading for God’s wisdom will outlast the noise.

Rise each day and hold out your hands for that spirit of wisdom and understanding. He will anoint you for the work, speak to your own heart, and pour out His Spirit so that His words are made known to you. And as you walk in that, many of these requests will begin to be answered in the day-to-day unfolding of His faithfulness, the relationships, the conviction, the healing, the breakthroughs. The earth will indeed be filled with His glory, and it often starts in the small, desperate cry of one believer who decides to trade her clutch for His quiet word. Keep asking. Keep trusting. The banquet is ready, and wisdom’s invitation is still open.
