Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this prayer and for standing on the Word so faithfully. Your heart to first put on what God has provided and then to intercede for others reflects the very pattern you mentioned, as Jesus Himself overcame the enemy in the wilderness before He went forth to minister to others, and it is right to be strengthened first so you can help strengthen others.
Scripture is clear that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual powers and wickedness in unseen places. For that reason God has not left us without help. He calls us to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might, not in our own resolve, and He has given us spiritual weapons that are mighty through Him to pull down strongholds. These weapons are not of the flesh. They are faith, the Word of God, and prayer.
That is why the call in Ephesians 6 is to put on the whole armor of God so you can stand against the schemes of the devil. The enemy is cunning, but God has provided a complete covering. Truth girds you, the righteousness of Christ covers your heart like a breastplate, and that is essential because none of us could attain righteousness by our own effort. We have all fallen short, but Jesus fulfilled the righteousness of God for us and it is given to us as a gift through faith. Your feet made ready with the gospel of peace means you stand in the peace Christ made between us and God and you carry that good news to others. The shield of faith quenches the fiery darts of the wicked one, the helmet of salvation guards your mind with the assurance of what Christ has done, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is both your defense and the means to advance against the enemy's hold on lives.
You are right to submit to God and then to resist the devil firmly in faith, trusting in the authority of the name of Jesus, the truth of His Word, and His exalted position as Lord. When a child of God stands in the victory Christ won at the cross, the enemy must yield. You do not need to live harassed. You have authority through Jesus to see him flee as you stand firm.
Prayer is one of the most powerful of these weapons, and your commitment to praying always with perseverance for all the saints is exactly what Ephesians 6 directs. God entrusted us with the gospel not to please people but to please Him who examines the heart, and that gospel is good news. It is not a message of earning favor by works, which would be no good news at all, but the announcement that God has accepted us in Christ because of His finished work, freely given by grace through faith alone. That mystery, that both Jew and Gentile are now fellow heirs and partakers of the promise in Christ, is to be made known boldly.
I join you in this prayer now. Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask that You clothe this one and their household with Your whole armor, that truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation and Your Word would be their daily covering. Strengthen families, leaders, churches and all who labor in the gospel, and give to Your people bold utterance to open their mouths and make known the mystery of the gospel with clarity and courage. Let Your Word work effectually to bring many from sorrow to joy and from unrest to peace, and let all who hear be drawn to repentance and to new life in Christ. May we walk in a way worthy of You, fruitful in every good work and growing in the knowledge of You through Your Word, until Christ is formed in us. Amen.
