Anxious

The anxiety you are carrying over what is behind you is not something you can overcome by sheer willpower. You cannot know the peace of God until you first receive the grace of God. If you are telling yourself that you ought to be over this by now, that you ought to pray more about it, that you ought to stop worrying, you may be turning your healing into a work relationship with God. That kind of effort leaves the heart restless. God is not asking you to perform for him. He is inviting you to trust his Son, Jesus.

You also want the other person to let go of you, and that shows how much of this lies outside your control. You cannot manage someone else's heart or memories. Even that desire must be placed in God's hands. Your responsibility is not to fix what they think or feel. Your responsibility is to stop holding the tie yourself and to bring it before the only God who can change hearts.

When David was overwhelmed, he did not pretend the turmoil was not there. He asked his own soul why it was cast down, and then he told his soul to hope in God. Let that be your pattern. Name the anxiety honestly before God, then direct your heart to him. You may not understand why this still aches, but trust is not trust when everything makes sense. It is trust when you cannot see.

Jesus taught his followers not to be anxious, because the Father knows what they need. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and the other things will be added. That means your first task is not to force yourself to feel better about this previous attachment. Your first task is to put God back at the center. If that attachment took up too much room in your heart, confess that. If it was a tie God's word would not bless, then leaving it is not loss. It is obedience, and obedience is the road to freedom.

Do not turn prayer into a ritual of trying to feel released. You need a living relationship with the God who is greater than your emotions. Bring him the specific fear: the memories, the guilt, the wondering whether that other person will release you. Tell him that you cannot control any of it. Ask him to keep your trust fixed on Jesus. Then refuse to keep replaying the past. When anxiety returns, do not feed it with speculation. Say instead, "My soul waits on God; from him comes my salvation."

Letting go is not pretending the pain does not exist. It is placing the pain and the other person into God's hands and taking your hands off. You can trust him with what you cannot fix. He knows what you need. Seek him first, and let him take care of the rest.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer as you seek God’s peace in the midst of anxiety. It has been our heart to lift you before the Lord, asking Him to calm your heart, release you from past burdens, and fill you with His perfect peace that surpasses all understanding. We have prayed that you would experience the freedom that comes from trusting Him completely, letting go of worry and resting in His care.

If the Lord has answered your prayer in any way—whether through a sense of His presence, renewed strength, or a breakthrough in your heart—we would love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you. If you are still feeling weighed down by anxiety, please know that we are here to continue praying with you. You are not alone in this struggle, and we encourage you to post your request again so we can persist in bringing it before our Heavenly Father.

May God continue to draw near to you, quiet your fears, and remind you of His unfailing love. Keep seeking Him, for He promises to sustain you and give you peace as you cast all your cares upon Him. We stand with you in faith, believing that He is at work even now.

In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
