Anxious

Help me to get over my anxiety over a previous ###. Help me to let go and let God handle my worries. Please help them to let go of me as well. šŸ™šŸ»

We hear your heart’s cry for peace, and we join you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord. Anxiety can feel like a relentless storm, but Scripture reminds us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). The weight of past relationships, especially those that may not have honored God, can linger, but we serve a Savior who specializes in redemption and new beginnings.

First, we must address the foundation of your plea. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so now. There is no true peace apart from Him. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Salvation comes by grace through faith in Him alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). If you have not confessed Him as Lord, we pray you would do so today, for "there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

Now, concerning your anxiety: The Lord calls us to cast all our cares upon Him, for He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). This is not a passive suggestion but an active command, one that requires trust. If this past relationship involved sin, whether emotional or physical unfaithfulness, we must repent and seek God’s forgiveness. The Bible is clear: "Flee sexual immorality! ā€˜Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18). If there was fornication, we must confess it, turn away from it, and walk in the freedom Christ offers.

We also rebuke the spirit of anxiety in Jesus’ name. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but Christ came that you might have life abundantly. You are not defined by your past, but by the One who holds your future. We declare over you the truth of Isaiah 43:18-19: "Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing."

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear one who is weighed down by anxiety and the remnants of a past that does not align with Your will. Lord, we ask that You break every chain of fear, regret, and attachment to what was not of You. Forgive any sin that was part of that relationship, and cleanse this heart with the blood of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we cancel every assignment of the enemy to keep them bound.

Father, fill them with Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Teach them to trust You with their whole heart and not lean on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). We pray for the other person involved, that they, too, would surrender to Your will and release any unhealthy attachment. May Your Holy Spirit minister to both hearts, leading them into the freedom and purpose You have for them.

Lord, we ask that You replace anxiety with faith, fear with hope, and sorrow with joy. Remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Help them to fix their eyes on You, the author and perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:2). We thank You for the new thing You are doing in their life, and we receive it by faith in Jesus’ name. Amen.

We encourage you to meditate on God’s Word daily, for "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). Surround yourself with believers who will pray for you and hold you accountable. If this past relationship involved sin, we urge you to walk in repentance and seek godly counsel. You are not alone, God is with you, and so are we. Keep pressing into Him, for He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6).

It’s exhausting when your mind keeps circling back to someone and the anxious thoughts won’t quiet down, especially when you already know you want to hand it over to God. We hear how much you want to be free from this, not just for yourself, but a clean break where they release their grip too. That desire itself is a sign that God is already working in you, drawing you toward the peace he has for you.

Letting go rarely happens all at once. It’s more like a repeated, deliberate act of trust. Trust means placing something you’re holding tightly into someone else’s care, believing they’ll handle it rightly. So when the worry flares up, maybe a memory, a fear they’ll reach out, the ā€œwhat ifsā€, you can pause right where you are and quietly say something like, ā€œLord, I’m holding this person and this anxiety again. I give them to you now. I trust you to deal with them and with me.ā€ Some days you may have to do that twenty times before noon. That’s not failure; that’s faith choosing to release what it can’t control.

As you keep bringing this to God, be patient with the process. Healing the grooves anxious thoughts have worn into your mind takes time, and it’s okay if you don’t feel instantly at peace. What God sees is your heart turning toward him, again and again, and that pleases him deeply.

Lord Jesus, you see the weight this anxiety has been, how it clings and disrupts peace. We ask you to take this whole tangled situation into your hands, the past relationship, the lingering worries, the other person too. Quiet the intrusive thoughts and give our friend the steady rest that comes from knowing you are handling it all. Where there is any tie that still pulls, we ask you to break it gently and completely for both of them. Fill the space worry has occupied with your presence and with hope for the days ahead. We pray this in your name, Jesus.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You speak of letting go and letting God handle your worries, this is the very essence of wisdom, for to handle a matter wisely is to trust God. He has not called you to ransack your own heart for a certain feeling before you may rest in Him; that were to make a god of your emotions. Cast yourself simply upon the Lord, acting uprightly in the thing, and then leave the result entirely with Him. If you have done what is right, do not be anxious about any soul clinging to you, for the living God sees and performs all things for you. Cry to Him, hide under His wings until these calamities pass, and be at peace. Your strength is to sit still; the joy of the Lord is your strength. Go in peace, and let not your heart be fluttered by tomorrow. As for that other one, pray for them, commit them to the God who alone can change the heart, and fret no more. He who rules the raging of the sea can quiet the storms of human spirits. Only trust Him now.

You say you are anxious over a past attachment, and you wish both to let go yourself and that the other would let go of you. This anxiety is a chain you have fastened on your own soul by clinging to a thing that passes away. Consider how great an evil it is not to commit all to God, but to trust to oneself. You try to loosen this knot by your own strength, and that is why you fail. Cast the whole matter upon Him who cares for you. If you had lost a sum of money or a beloved child, you would search everywhere and spare no effort. How much more should you seek God, the true and lasting good? Do not look around for human reassurance as the hypocrites do when they pray, fixing their eyes on men rather than on the One who can grant the request. God is willing to bestow His own reward, but if you seek comfort from mere creatures, you depart with empty hands.

Do not say, "I have not the strength to let go." The grace of God is great enough to render your soul unstained and above this turmoil. Remember the poor widow who cast in two mites: she lacked everything, yet she accomplished all, because what matters is the disposition. If you offer God simply your willing surrender, a barley cake of trust, He will do the rest. As for the other person, why burden yourself with what is not yours? Your task is to order your own soul before God; He will deal with them. Did not the Apostle Paul, while bound in chains, not only free himself but also break the bonds of his fellow prisoners? If your own heart is released by the power of Christ, that freedom may well minister to another. But if you keep gazing backward and clutching the anxiety, you remain imprisoned.

Therefore let go. Do all things, even this hard release, for the glory of God. Fix your desire upon Him with the same urgency you would use to recover a lost treasure, and you will find a peace that shames human comfort. I do not speak to command, but to guard and protect you. You will give an account for your own soul; do not cast the whole responsibility away, but take up this noble struggle in the strength that God supplies. He is ready to deliver you if you will simply trust. So let us lift up thanksgiving to Him with one accord, for to Him belongs glory forever. Amen.
