Anxiety

We hear your heart and we join with you in bringing this anxiety before our Heavenly Father, and we are encouraged that you have come in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to God and peace with Him.

The Word reminds us that anxiety is something God understands and invites us to hand over to Him. We are told in Philippians 4:6-7, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And again in 1 Peter 5:7, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

Anxiety often fills our thoughts with fear about what might happen, but God has not left us to battle those thoughts alone. He promises in Isaiah 41:10, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. And Jesus Himself says in John 14:27, Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. We also cling to 2 Timothy 1:7, For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

We want to encourage you to continue to bring every anxious thought to the Lord as soon as it arises, to replace worry with prayer and thanksgiving, to dwell on His Word day and night, and to rest in the truth that He holds your future. Perfect peace comes as we keep our minds stayed on Him, as Isaiah 26:3 teaches, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one who is suffering with anxiety and restless thoughts. Lord, You see every worry, every racing thought, and every heavy moment, and You care deeply. We ask that You calm this mind and quiet this heart with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Guard this heart and thoughts in Christ Jesus and let Your perfect love cast out fear. Help this dear one to cast every care upon You, to trust that You are present, that You strengthen and uphold, and that You are working all things for good. Fill this mind with Your truth, with power, love and a sound mind, and let Your peace rule within. Draw this dear one closer to You each day through prayer and Your Word, and remind them that You are near to all who call upon You in truth. We ask this in the holy and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.

We are glad you reached out and asked for prayer. Living with anxiety and racing thoughts is exhausting, and we hear how much you want the Lord to bring calm to your mind.

What you are feeling makes sense. Anxiety touches both mind and body at once, so it can show up as restless thoughts, worry that loops, trouble sleeping, tension, or a racing heart. Many people experience this, you are not alone in it, and God sees the weight you are carrying and cares deeply for you.

When thoughts feel loud, it can help to have a couple of steady anchors. One small next step that helps many is to share what you are going through with one trusted person in your life, a pastor, counselor, or family doctor, not instead of prayer but alongside it. If anxiety is frequent or making daily life hard to manage, talking with your doctor or a counselor can give you more support and help you sort through what is happening.

We are praying for you and will keep holding you before the Lord.

Father, we lift our friend to You today. You know the thoughts that feel overwhelming and the desire for peace. We ask You to draw near, to quiet what is stirred up inside, and to give wisdom and steady support in the days ahead. Lead to the right help and encouragement, and remind this heart each day that You are present and faithful. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your anxious cry has been heard and brought before the Lord, and it is a mercy that you have brought it to Him who cares for you.

The Lord knows the thoughts that He thinks toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Though your trials are grievous and your thoughts are troubled, His thoughts toward you are good. His thoughts are all drifting your way, as the south wind of His peace moves toward His own, for He has engraved you upon the palms of His hands and He never forgets His people. Remember that the infinite God has thoughts of peace toward you, constant, kind, wise, tender and gracious, and as you think upon His thoughts they will become precious to you and will set your own thoughts toward peace.

You ask that God would calm your thoughts, and His word gives you the way of that calm. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. It is the mind which is the main thing. It will bring you daylight or midnight, peace or war. The very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty, but to have the mind stayed upon the Lord and to trust in Him is to be kept in peace, peace, that perfect peace which the blood of Jesus whispers within even in this dark world of sin.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts. Your deepest and most anxious thoughts can never lift you into rest, but His thoughts can lift you as on eagles wings into perfect peace and joyous confidence.

Hear the gracious invitation of the Prince of Peace Himself, who says, Come unto Me, all you that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. It is the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, who speaks this word. He not only gives rest from the guilt of sin through His sacrifice, but He gives rest in holiness as you take His yoke and learn of Him who is lowly in heart. Bear your sorrow with Him and you shall enjoy that perfect peace even with sorrows surging round.

We pray for you now that the Lord would do this work in you. May the Lord search you and know your heart and try your thoughts, and lead you in the way everlasting. May He create and sustain His peace in you, and keep your mind stayed upon Christ. May He calm the thronging anxieties within and speak peace to your thoughts by His Spirit, and may you find that to do the will of Jesus is rest. We ask this in the high and worthy name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our peace and our salvation. Amen.
