Anxiety and nervousness

Peace for an anxious heart is not found in trying to feel calm by your own effort. It begins when you bring the nervousness to God and trust Him with the outcome. Job was in deep misery and confusion, yet he could still say that even if everything was taken from him, he would trust God. That is where anxiety starts to loosen its grip: not when you know everything will go smoothly, but when you know God holds you even if it does not.

For your class and your first assembly, pray that God gives the children calm hearts and quiet bodies, and ask Him to give you the same. You cannot pass peace to your students if your own heart is churning. Bring your nerves to the Lord and ask Him to quiet your inner dwelling place. Scripture speaks of being at peace in your habitation and even being in league with the stones of the field. That is a picture of inward rest that outward circumstances cannot easily shake. When God gives quietness, no one can easily disturb it.

So let me pray for you now. Father, I lift up this anxious heart to you. Replace the nervousness with the peace of your presence. Let joy come not from a flawless performance but from knowing you are near. For this first assembly, give wisdom and patience. Help the class line up well and remain quiet, not for show but to honor you. Settle every restless thought and let your peace rule in this heart and in that room. In Jesus' name.
