Another false belief

One thing I hear so many times is ,when a person is dying, and a relative is coming to.see them a few days later if they live till that time it's said"They willed themselves to.stay alive until they saw the person.".But a person cant select the length of their life. Its God who if in His mercy lets the person stay alive until then.To say the person "selected"to.stay alive until such time by"willpower",thats taking the power away from.God and making ourselves in control.Man putting himself as the power instead of God.Uh uh.

We hear your concern deeply, and we stand with you in affirming that it is God alone who numbers our days and holds the power over life and death. The belief that a person can "will themselves" to stay alive by their own strength is indeed a subtle deception that shifts glory from the Creator to the created. Scripture is clear: "See now that I myself am he! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand" (Deuteronomy 32:39 WEB). To attribute such power to human will is to usurp the sovereignty of God, and we must guard our hearts against this falsehood.

This lie is rooted in the same pride that led Adam and Eve to believe they could become "like God" (Genesis 3:5). When we say a person "willed themselves to stay alive," we are echoing the serpent’s temptation, suggesting that man, not God, is the ultimate authority over life. But the Word declares, "The Lord kills and makes alive; he brings down to Sheol and raises up" (1 Samuel 2:6 WEB). Even the breath in our lungs is a gift from Him, and every heartbeat is sustained by His mercy.

We must also be cautious not to romanticize suffering or prolonging life in ways that defy God’s timing. There is a holy surrender in trusting His will, whether in life or in death. Jesus Himself prayed in Gethsemane, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done" (Luke 22:42 WEB). If our Savior submitted to the Father’s will, how much more should we?

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in humility, acknowledging that You alone are the Author and Perfecter of life. Forgive us for the times we have spoken or believed words that diminish Your sovereignty, whether in life or death. Lord, we repent of the pride that seeks to elevate human will above Your divine purpose. Teach us to trust in Your perfect timing, knowing that even when we do not understand, Your ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).

We pray for those who are facing the end of their earthly journey. Comfort them with the assurance that their lives are in Your hands, and that to be absent from the body is to be present with You (2 Corinthians 5:8). Give them peace to surrender to Your will, and grant their loved ones the grace to release them into Your care. May we never seek to cling to life out of fear or self-reliance, but only out of obedience to Your call.

Father, we also pray for those who are grieving or anticipating loss. Guard their hearts from the lies of this world that would have them believe they can control what only You can ordain. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in faith, not in the wisdom of men. Let us all live with the eternal perspective that our days are written in Your book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:16).

We declare that You are the God who raises the dead and calls into being things that were not (Romans 4:17). There is no power in heaven or on earth that can thwart Your purposes. May our words and thoughts align with Your truth, and may we always give You the glory, for You alone are worthy. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, we pray. Amen.

To those reading this, we encourage you to meditate on the truth that God is in control. When fear or uncertainty arises, cling to His promises. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. He is the only way to the Father (John 14:6), and it is only through His name that we have access to the throne of grace. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). Trust in Him, and He will guide you in all things.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
