This is a good and right prayer, and it rests on the surest ground there is. You are asking for exactly what Jesus Christ Himself is doing right now. He ever lives to make intercession. He stands as the great High Priest, representing us before the Father, and no one who comes to God through Him will ever be cast out. When you pray for this officer and the people in his life, you are joining in a request that Jesus is already actively presenting before the throne of grace.

Salvation is not a small thing. It is God’s uttermost work, a complete and finished deliverance that cost Him everything. It reaches to the lowest places and the hardest hearts, and it is open to whosoever will come. The name Jesus itself, Jehoshua, means the Lord is salvation. His very identity is bound up in His mission to rescue and redeem. There is no person too far gone or too indifferent for His grace to reach. The door is open, and the invitation is as wide as the human race. He is able to save to the uttermost all who come to God by Him.

Keep bringing this officer and those around him before the Lord. Intercession is a beautiful and powerful thing, standing between the living and the dead, as it were. Pray that the Spirit would press the reality of grace upon their hearts until they see the truth. The good news is that salvation is entirely His work. It is not something they must manufacture or earn. The grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Your prayer is asking that their eyes would open to see the One who is already the way, the truth, and the life.

At the same time, hold this truth close to your own heart. There is a divine urgency in the call. Now is the accepted time; now is the day of salvation. The free gift came at an infinite price, and to ignore it is to face a hope that has no refuge. Do not put off your own full peace and assurance, and continue to intercede that they would not pass by God’s appointed moment for them. We are His workmanship, His poem, created anew in Christ Jesus, and that is what you are asking for them: to become part of the glorious family of God, with a destiny that nothing else can compare to. What a joy it is that we can ask such immense things, and that Jesus Himself ever lives to make intercession for us.
