We lift up this urgent cry for help regarding the struggle with alcohol in fervent prayer before the throne of grace. The Bible warns us clearly about the dangers of drunkenness and the bondage it can bring. Ephesians 5:18 says, "Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." Proverbs 20:1 tells us, "Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise." We recognize that alcohol can become a snare, leading to destruction of health, relationships, and spiritual vitality.
Father God, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we come before You with heavy hearts, interceding for our brother or sister who is bound by the chains of alcohol. We ask You to break every chain and set them free by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Lord, we rebuke the spirit of addiction and every lie that tells them they cannot overcome this struggle. Your Word declares in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new." We claim this truth over their life right now.
We pray for a supernatural outpouring of Your strength and deliverance. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, so that they may walk in victory and sobriety. Surround them with godly believers who can support and encourage them in their journey. Give them the courage to seek help, whether through counseling, support groups, or accountability partners who love You and can walk alongside them. Remind them that they are not alone, for You are with them always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).
Father, we ask for healing—spirit, soul, and body. Restore what has been broken and bring renewal to every area of their life that has been affected by this struggle. Help them to find their worth and identity in You alone, knowing that they are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Let them experience the freedom that comes from living a life surrendered to You.
We also pray for wisdom and discernment for those who may be enabling this struggle, whether knowingly or unknowingly. Help families and friends to respond with love, truth, and boundaries that honor You and promote healing.
Lord, we stand on Your promise in 1 Corinthians 10:13: "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." We declare that You are making a way of escape for them right now. Strengthen their resolve to turn away from this temptation and to run toward the abundant life You offer.
We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). It is through His blood, shed on the cross, that we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins. We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer and for moving mightily on behalf of our brother or sister. May they experience Your peace that surpasses all understanding and walk in the freedom that only You can provide. Amen.
