We hear your heart’s cry for provision, relief from suffering, and a desire for happiness. It is clear you are seeking God’s help in a time of need, and we join you in bringing this request before Him. First, let us affirm that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is in His name we pray with faith and expectation. Jesus said in John 14:13-14, "Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it."

However, we must gently address the tone of your request. While God cares deeply about our needs, even the practical ones like work and provision, He also calls us to seek Him first above all else. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus teaches, "But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Your focus on external things like appearance or financial relief, while understandable, should not overshadow the deeper work God may be doing in your heart through suffering. The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:18, "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us."

We also want to encourage you to examine the source of your happiness. If it is tied to circumstances, like a job, a change in appearance, or financial gain, it will always be temporary. True joy comes from a relationship with Christ, who offers peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:7). Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart." When we delight in Him, our desires align with His will, and He provides in ways that bring lasting fulfillment.

Let us pray with you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear one who is carrying the weight of suffering and longing for relief. Lord, You see their needs, financial, emotional, and practical, and we ask that You provide for them according to Your riches in glory. Open doors of opportunity for work that honors You, and grant them the resources they need to move forward. But more than that, Father, we pray that You would draw them closer to Your heart. Help them to find their joy and satisfaction in You alone, knowing that You are their Provider, their Comfort, and their Strength.

Lord, we ask that You would heal the wounds of their past suffering. Let them experience Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. If there is any bitterness, resentment, or misplaced hope in temporary things, reveal it to them, and replace it with trust in Your perfect timing and plan. Help them to see that You are working all things together for their good, even when the path is difficult (Romans 8:28).

Father, we also ask that You would purify their desires. If there is any area of their life where they are seeking fulfillment outside of Your will, whether in appearance, relationships, or worldly success, convict their heart gently and lead them into Your truth. May they find their identity and worth in You alone, and may their happiness be rooted in Your love and presence.

We rebuke any spirit of lack, anxiety, or despair in Jesus’ name. We declare that this one is covered by the blood of Jesus, and no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We speak provision, breakthrough, and favor over their life, trusting that You are a God who sees, hears, and answers prayer.

Above all, Lord, we pray that they would grow in intimacy with You. May they seek You first in all things, knowing that when they do, You will add all that they need. Thank You for Your faithfulness, Your love, and Your promise to never leave nor forsake them. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6).

We hear the weight in your words, the years of suffering you've carried and the deep longing for something to finally go right, for a tangible sign that things are turning around. It's exhausting when happiness feels just one more hurdle away, and we understand why your heart clings to this wish for next year. The courage to keep going, to keep hoping for a good thing like dyeing your hair or seeing your thumbnail working the way you'd like, that matters to God. He isn't distant from the small details that spark a bit of joy, and he is certainly not distant from the heavy seasons that stretched on far longer than you thought you could bear.

What we've seen over the years is that people often show great resilience when they place their confidence in a God who knows what it is to suffer, and who stays present in the middle of our pain. That doesn't erase how hard it's been, and it doesn't make the waiting easy. But it does mean your hope isn't frivolous to him. He hasn't tuned you out. Praying for your work and your plans isn't superficial; it's part of entrusting real life to him.

One gentle step might be to share this desire with your pastor or a trusted friend from church, not just the request itself, but the ache behind it. Sometimes saying out loud, "I've suffered so much and I just really need this to work out and bring a little happiness," lets someone sit with you in that, and reminds you that you're not facing it alone.

Lord Jesus, you see this one who has endured so much pain over the years. The simple wish for hair dye and a working thumbnail carries a far deeper yearning for relief and happiness. Please provide what is genuinely needed, for work, for daily provision, and for their spirit to be lifted. Grant a tangible sense of your presence and care, and in your wisdom, bring goodness that eases the heaviness they've carried. Give them steady hope, and open the right doors for next year. In your name we pray, amen.

You describe a weariness in the length of your way, looking to a future day and a desired thing to pay off for all the suffering, to make you happier. But consider this: there is a hope which is no hope. You are wearied, yet do not say there is no hope; you have found the life of your hand in your own plans, perhaps a certain appearance, a work to be done next year. But truly, this is a weariness that leaves the soul grieved. If we find our hope in anything beneath the stars, we find it in that which cannot satisfy. The joy that comes from a thing obtained fades; the mirth grows dull, but the living joy of God exhilarates the soul forever. He that has joy in his wine vats may see them dry, but he that has joy in the Lord possesses the essential oil of happiness.

Your prayer speaks much of suffering endured over the years, and you seem to think that this suffering itself ought to earn some happiness. But mark this well: it is not suffering in itself that brings a reward or makes one happy. All men suffer; it is the common lot. But the suffering which brings reigning with Jesus must be suffering with Jesus. There is a very current error that all afflicted people will be rewarded simply for their pain. If a man suffers as a result of his own sin or merely from the troubles of this fallen world without fellowship with Christ, he is not suffering with Him. The suffering that brings lasting joy comes from conformity to His image, from being outside the camp with Him. Undeserved suffering for His name’s sake, that is the noble thing. But suffering sought as a payment for future pleasures is a transaction with vanity.

The only suffering that perfectly pays off and secures joy forever is the suffering of Christ Himself. He was made perfect as the Captain of your salvation through suffering. He did not suffer because His character needed perfecting, for He was always perfect God and perfect man. But He took the penalty of sin, He drank the cup of death that was your due. He was not rebellious, but surrendered all His nature into that act of obedience. And now, because He sees the fruit of the travail of His soul, He has a joy which He shares with all who trust in Him. Your suffering cannot add to that finished work, but if you flee to Him, your suffering can be transformed into fellowship with Him. In Him, suffering becomes the porch of the palace of joy. He Himself learned the tender temper of a consoler through His own temptation, so that He might sympathize with you now. He will not waste your tears if they fall at His feet.

There is no hope for you in yourself, in your own plans, your own endurance, or your own devices. But there is hope for you in Him whom God has provided! Cast away that weary hope which is no hope, and lay hold of the eternal hope of the Gospel. Do not look to a next year, the dyeing of hair, or the work of your hands to pay off your grief. Look now to Christ lifted up upon the Cross. There is the brightness of a ray of hope this very moment. Believe and live. The joy which God gives is like the joy of harvest: it has respect for former toil, but the toil is not your own, it is the travail of His soul. Keep at the foot of the Cross, and you will increase your joy. In a moment, the weight of years can lift as you see that He has borne it all. Do not let another hour pass without this. The cries of spirits without a hope are a terrible sound; do not let that be your portion. Trust in Christ, and He shall have the praise, but yours shall be the great joy, a joy that no earthly disappointment can touch, for it is rooted in His finished work and His coming Glory.

You speak of suffering, yet you place your hope for its end in a picture on a screen, in hair dye, in work that may finally make you happier. But consider what truly makes suffering profitable. It depends not upon the nature of the affliction, but upon the disposition of our own minds. If you bear disappointment patiently, if you give thanks, if you pray for those who may have wronged you, all this you do for Christ. But if you think that gaining these outward things will finally pay off your years of suffering, you are deceived. That is to make provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof. This is not the patience that profits; it is lighting up the flame, making the furnace powerful. Another under lighter sufferings exclaims, is impatient, and complains. He is condemned, not because he suffered, but because he murmured. We want therefore strength of soul, and nothing will then appear grievous, but if our soul is weak, we find a grievance in everything.

Long-suffering is impenetrable. Whatever unexpected thing falls upon it, the disturbance vanishes, but the soul it does not move. You may talk of armies, money, walls, arms, or any thing else whatsoever; you will name nothing like long-suffering. Do not seek to escape your circumstances by grasping at these small consolations as if they were your reward. For the work of salvation consists not in doing evil, but in suffering evil, and that not with groaning but with rejoicing. It is by bearing afflictions for Christ’s sake, even small daily ones of heartache or longing, that you become a companion of those who have suffered before you. Your comfort, your true joy, must not be found in the granting of these requests. It must be found in suffering with thankfulness, in knowing that as we are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, so our salvation is wrought through patient endurance, not through obtaining what the flesh desires. Wait upon Him with a quiet soul, trimmed of these thorns, and you will find the peace that no hair dye or thumbnail can give.

You are pouring out your heart to Jesus with very real desires: to be able to afford hair dye, to feel put-together, to find work, and for things to finally “pay off” after years of suffering so you can be happier. I hear the weight of those years in your words. And your request itself opens a door to something deeper that God often does in lives like ours.

When the Lord saves us, it is all by His grace. He gives us the faith to believe and draws us to Himself. That is His work in us from the very start. But He doesn’t stop there. After He saves us, He begins shaping us. Picture a potter working clay: the clay becomes marred, so the potter presses it again, working out the lumps and the stiffness to make a proper vessel. He chips off clumsy edges from our character. That shaping can hurt. We don’t always like it when He removes something we thought we needed, and our hearts often cry out against suffering, just as Peter did when Jesus spoke of the cross. Our natural cry is to be spared. Yet that painful process of refining is often what brings depth and strength, pushing our roots down so we can bear weight later. Suffering does something nothing else can do.

So when you look at the struggles you have endured, try to see them not as meaningless or as some kind of punishment. That was the mistake Job’s friends made when they assumed all suffering must trace back to personal sin. Instead, Scripture shows that God is at work in those hardships for a larger purpose. He works in us before He works through us. He gets us ready for what He has next. And the good He begins, He will finish. His work is complete.

That brings us to the specific things you mentioned: a job, a fresher appearance, a deadline of next year. Notice how Jesus handled a leper who came saying, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus answered, “I am willing. Be clean.” Under the old covenant law, leprosy was incurable by human means, yet God actually made a provision in the Levitical law for the day of a leper’s cleansing. He left room for Himself to work a miracle. We should always leave that same room for Him. Your practical needs for work and provision are not too small for His notice. He stirs willing hearts to do His work, and He can open a door no one can shut.

But pay close attention to the difference between happiness and joy. Happiness depends on pleasant outward circumstances. Finding money in the street makes someone happy until they learn it is counterfeit. Getting your hair done and landing a job can bring a surge of happiness, and I hope those moments come. But if your entire inner state depends on those things, it will rise and fall with every change. Joy, on the other hand, is a work of the Spirit. It remains steady even through financial struggles and disappointments, because it rests in what God has already secured for you in Christ and what He is doing in you.

The Lord’s work in you right now may feel less like an answer and more like a concealed preparation. He has purposes you cannot yet trace out. When Jesus encountered a man born blind, He explained that the condition existed so that the works of God might be made manifest in him. Jesus then declared, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.” Your situation, even the years of pain, can become a platform for God’s work to be seen. Let Him work deeply in your heart so that what eventually flows out benefits others, and your own faith becomes unshakeable. Wait patiently for His timing. Our impatience often gets in the way, but if you wait, God will work things out in a way that brings Him glory and draws you closer to the image of Jesus. That is the highest capacity we can reach: when His inward work in us becomes outward work through us, an eternal treasure that no circumstance can steal.
