Addiction

Sliynarierdoth

Disciple of Prayer
I am addicted to playing games online . Now my joints in my wrists and fingers are swollen and hurting. Yet I long for the games to play. Please pray for me, May God bless you as you pray for me

We have read your request and we are lifting you up before the Lord with compassion, for we understand how powerful the pull of addiction can be even when your own body is crying out in pain. You have been honest about your struggle and your physical suffering, and we thank you for sharing this burden so we can bear it with you in prayer.

The Word of God teaches us that anything that masters us apart from Christ can become an idol in our hearts. While games themselves are not necessarily sinful, when they control our time, our thoughts, and our bodies to the point of harm, we are no longer walking in freedom. For no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13. The Lord also calls us to steward our bodies well, for Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Your swollen and hurting wrists and fingers are a warning that your body, which belongs to God, is being harmed and needs rest and care. We also are reminded to watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16. Much time spent in endless gaming robs time that God intends for fellowship with Him, for work, for rest, and for serving others.

We want to lovingly rebuke the hold this addiction has taken, not to condemn you but to call you back to freedom in Christ. The longing you feel even while in pain shows how deeply this habit has taken root, and the fruit of the Spirit includes self-control, which God desires to grow in you. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23. We encourage you to repent and turn fully to the Lord for deliverance, to remove what causes you to stumble, and to replace that time with what is true and pure and praiseworthy. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true deliverance and salvation. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we urge you to place your faith in Jesus Christ, confess your sins to Him, and trust in His death and resurrection for forgiveness and new life. He alone can break the chains of addiction and heal both body and soul.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother who is bound by addiction to online games. Lord, we ask You to forgive him and to cleanse him, and to break this yoke that has mastered him. Pour out Your Spirit of self-control and give him strength to turn away and to make a way of escape with every temptation. We ask for Your healing touch upon his wrists and fingers, that the swelling and pain would subside and that his body would be restored as Your temple. Teach him to present his body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. Romans 12:1. Help him to redeem his time wisely and to find joy and satisfaction in You rather than in the fleeting pleasures of this world. Surround him with godly accountability, whether a pastor or mature believer, and give him courage to seek medical care for his joints and to delete or remove access to these games. Fill the void with Your presence, Your Word, and wholesome fellowship. We pray he would know the freedom that is found only in Jesus and walk in victory day by day. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps as you pray. Seek medical attention promptly for your joint pain and allow your hands to rest completely. Remove the games from your devices and place barriers such as accountability software, and ask a trusted Christian brother or pastor to check on you daily. Fill your time intentionally with prayer, reading Scripture, work, exercise, and service to others, and memorize verses to recite when the longing comes. God is faithful and He will strengthen you as you submit to Him. We are continuing to pray for your deliverance and healing, and we trust the Lord will lead you into freedom and wholeness in Christ.

We hear how hard this tug of war has been for you, wanting to step away from the games and at the same time feeling drawn back to them, even while your wrists and fingers are swollen and hurting. It makes sense that you would feel weary and discouraged, and we are grateful you reached out for prayer.

We are praying for strength and clarity for you in the days ahead, and also for relief and healing in your body. With the pain and swelling you described, we encourage you to have a doctor or other medical professional check your hands and wrists soon, alongside prayer, so you can get care and guidance.

For the gaming itself, you do not have to carry this alone. It can help to bring one trusted person into what you are facing, a pastor, counselor, or mature friend who can walk with you regularly. Many find it helpful to make the games less immediately available, like removing apps or devices from easy reach and filling that time with other activities and community, so the habit has less room to take over. Small, consistent steps with support often matter more than trying to will yourself through it.

Father, we lift our friend to You. You see the longing and the pain and the desire for freedom. Grant wisdom for next steps, comfort in the discomfort, and steady help from people nearby. Lead toward healing and wholeness day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Admitting the pull of it out loud takes honesty, especially when it's hurting your wrists and fingers. There's a short spoken prayer called the Addiction Clearing Prayer on the One Prayer at a Time YouTube channel, a few calm minutes prayed over loosening addiction's hold, if you'd like something quiet to listen to. I hope the grip starts to loosen for you.

Your honest and humble confession has been heard, and we take it before the Lord with you in prayer. You have described both a captivity of the soul and a chastening of the body, and both need the same great Physician.

There are some who can scarcely be taught except through physical pain, and what you feel in your wrists and fingers, swollen and hurting, may be the Lord speaking to you in mercy. He has chastened you sorely, yet not to destroy you, but to awaken you. Pain of body wraps up within itself great mercy when it arrests us in a course that would harm us and turns our eyes to seek deliverance. Do not despise this warning of the body, but hear in it a call to seek healing for the whole man. As we speedily care for bodily diseases and seek a physician for our healing, so seek help for these joints, and at the same time seek the Lord who alone can heal the deeper wound.

This longing for games which remains even while the body suffers shows how strong the power of habit and sin can be. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. You cannot by your own resolve break this chain, and you need not despair for that reason. Our deliverance must be worked by the hand and outstretched arm of Jehovah alone. He has invented a way of deliverance and He has found a ransom. That ransom is His own Son, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself upon the cross that we might be brought forth from cruel captivity. When the lamb was slain, Israel was brought forth, and when Christ our Passover was slain, the way was opened for us to be delivered from worse enemies than Pharaoh and to be saved by a greater salvation.

In Christ there is an abundance of healing power. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing. His wounds are our healing, His death is our life. Healing and forgiveness are placed in happy conjunction. When He says, Thy sins are forgiven thee, He also brings healing to the sick soul. If you give yourself wholly up to Christ as His disciple, hard by His cross where you see His wounds still bleeding afresh for you, you will find that these healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before.

Therefore we pray for you now.

O Lord God, who hast found a ransom and who healest the broken in heart and bindest up their wounds, look upon this dear one who confesses an addiction to games and who suffers pain in body and restlessness in soul. Forgive sin through the blood of Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Deliver from the power of darkness and translate into the kingdom of Thy dear Son. Break the chain which binds the will to that which harms, and set the captive free. Lay Thy healing hand upon these wrists and fingers, ease the swelling and pain, and use this affliction to turn the heart fully to Thee. Let the Sun of Righteousness rise with healing beneath His wings upon this midnight of struggle. Give strength to turn away from the snare, to seek wholesome labor, fellowship, and prayer, and to give the time and heart wholly to Christ without reserve. And when Thou hast delivered, grant grace to live and to declare the works of the Lord, that others in like trouble may take comfort.

We exhort you, dear soul, to act willingly with the grace God gives. Put away the occasion of temptation, seek the counsel of godly friends and of your pastor, seek needful care for your hands, and spend the hours once given to games in prayer, in the Word, and in useful service. Trust not in ceremonies or good works or mere resolves, but in Christ alone. He must have all the honor of your deliverance, for He alone can bring you forth.

May the Lord hear your cry, pardon, heal, and deliver you, and may you soon sing songs of deliverance for a greater salvation wrought in you. Amen.
