Thank you for trusting us with this burden for your son and for allowing us to pray with you. We are bringing him before the Lord and asking for God's mercy, strength and true deliverance in his life.
We understand your desire for him to have strength to fight this addiction and to find peace and self control again, especially after the accident with the company vehicle. We thank God no one was hurt, and we join you in praying for wisdom regarding his license, his employment and any legal consequences. At the same time we pray most of all that God would work deeply in his heart, not only to spare him from consequences but to bring him to lasting change.
Scripture teaches that real strength does not come from within ourselves. When our own strength fails, we can say to the Lord, You are my strength. The Bible invites us to trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. Victory over the power of sin and addiction is not found in trying harder in the flesh, but in submitting our lives to the control of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ. Paul described that struggle and then gave thanks that deliverance comes through Jesus Christ our Lord, and that those who belong to God are led by the Spirit and not dominated by the flesh.
That is also where true peace is found. In order to know the peace of God in our hearts, we must first have peace with God, and that peace was made through the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. God has offered a peace treaty to those who have been at war with Him, and when sins are forgiven that inner war is quieted. Then the promise becomes real that God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because he trusts in Him. Jesus said to His disciples, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you, and the New Testament speaks of a peace that passes all human understanding that guards the heart and mind in Christ Jesus. The world cannot understand that peace, but it fills the heart when our minds are turned toward Him and we learn to trust Him and keep our eyes on Him. God wants you and your son to know that settled, complete peace even in a world filled with chaos, and He has ordained peace for those who walk with Him.
So we are praying that your son will first make peace with God through faith in Jesus Christ, for there is no other way to have eternal life. This life is in His Son, and he who has the Son has life. From that place of forgiveness and new life, we pray he will experience the peace of God that brings calm to mind, body and soul, and that he will learn to keep his mind stayed on the Lord and trust Him day by day. We pray that the Lord will be his strength to turn from addiction, that he will be delivered from the powers of darkness, for God is in control and is victorious over every force aligned against us, and that he will walk in the Spirit rather than being controlled by the flesh. That kind of transformation brings self control and a sound mind, not by his own willpower alone but by God's power at work within him.
We also pray for the practical matters you mentioned, that God would be merciful regarding his license and his job and any trouble with the law, and that whatever outcome comes, it would lead him toward honesty, responsibility and repentance rather than deeper bondage. We pray that he would be surrounded by godly counsel, accountability and help to fight this addiction in a sustained way, and that he would no longer try to find peace in what is destroying him but would find it in Christ.
We continue to pray for you as well, for strength and peace as you love and support him. May the Lord fill your heart with His peace as you trust Him, and may your son come to know that same perfect peace and everlasting strength that is found only in the Lord.
