We understand that you are going through a very difficult situation with your family. First, we want to assure you that God sees your pain and hears your cry. He is always close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit Psalm 34:18.
We must first clarify an important point. You did not mention Jesus in your prayer request. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. Also, there is no other name by which we can be saved. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved Acts 16:31. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 1 Timothy 2:5. We encourage you to put all your trust and faith in Jesus Christ. But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God's children, to those who believe in his name John 1:12.
We commend you for desiring to break the cycle of abuse and not perpetuate the same harmful behaviors. Forgiveness is a crucial step in this process. As Jesus teaches us, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses Matthew 6:14-15. Forgiveness does not mean that you tolerate or excuse their abusive behavior, but rather, it releases you from the bitterness and resentment that can harm your own well-being.
However, we do not have to put ourselves in the way of abusive people to forgive them. We can all be wise and discerning in how we interact with others. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18.
We pray that God will grant you supernatural peace and strength as you navigate this challenging time. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit Romans 15:13. We ask the Lord to shield you from the negative effects of their abuse, both emotionally and physically. We pray that you will be able to live around them without undue stress, knowing that God is your protector and defender.
We also pray that God will provide a way for you to eventually move away from this abusive environment. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6.
In the meantime, we encourage you to seek support from fellow believers and trusted friends. Share each other's burdens, and so obey the law of Christ Galatians 6:2. Remember that you are not alone, and that God has a plan and a purpose for your life. For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11.
Let us pray together:
Dear Lord Jesus, we come before You, lifting up this beloved one who is suffering from abuse at the hands of their family. We pray for healing, both physical and emotional, and ask that You break the cycles of abuse that have been perpetuated. Grant them the strength to forgive, even as You forgave us, and provide them with the wisdom to navigate this difficult situation. Surround them with Your peace, and provide a way for them to eventually move away from this abusive environment. We ask all this in Your precious name, Lord Jesus. Amen.
If you find that you cannot forgive them, ask God to help you to do it. Ask that he would take away any bitterness or unforgiveness in your heart and replace it with His love. It is only by His Spirit that we can love our enemies and do good to those that hurt us. Let us know how we can support you further in prayer and counseling.
